When I Close My Eyes

Chap 13.

No matter how many times Sidney told Karly his parents would love her, she just couldn't believe him. She was always insecure about herself, but for some reason she felt accepted by Sidney, but by other people...she just was never sure. Karly wanted his parents to approve of her, because she was dating their son and not just any son...but an all-star hockey playing son. "Karly? What's wrong?" Sidney asked turning down the radio and snapping Karly out of her thoughts

"Just thinking..." Karly replied

"Looked more like worrying to me." Sidney said with concern evident in his voice

"I'm just really...really nervous Sid. I want your parents to approve of me..." Karly said

"Karly, they'll love you. Just trust me...you do trust me right?" he asked

"I want to, but what if they don't think I'm good enough for you..." Karly said

"Don't ever say that. Don't ever think that I'm too good for you, cause I'm not...if anything you're too good for me. I mean...you have gone through so much and you've stayed so strong...I admire you for that, Karly. You're beautiful and amazing and I love you." Sidney said

"I love you too." Karly replied

Sidney smiled "Just be you and they'll love you."

"Okay." she said

Sidney pulled into his parent's driveway and opened Karly's door. He grabbed her and and kissed her forehead "Don't worry." he whispered

Before Sidney could open the door and flung open "SID!" a blonde girl screamed hugging him

Sidney laughed "Hey, sis. Miss me much?"

"Yes! Merry Christmas!" his sister said

"Yeah you too. Oh, Tay, this is Karly. My girlfriend." Sidney said

Karly turned to Taylor and noticed the girl's smile was just like Sidney's "Nice to finally meet you...Sid talks about you every time he calls." Taylor said

Karly smiled at Sidney "Does he now?" she said nudging Sidney

Sidney cleared his throat "Let's go inside it's cold." A dog ran up to him and jumped up "Sam!!! Miss me girl?" Sidney said rubbing the dog's ears. The dog happily wagged her tail "This is Sam, Karly."

"Hi Sam." Karly said reaching out and scratching Sam's ears. Sam licked her hand

Sidney smiled "She likes you." Karly smiled back

"Welcome home sweetie!" Sidney's mother greeted. She wrapped Sidney in a huge hug and he kissed her on the cheek

"Hey, mom. Where's dad?" Sidney asked

"Oh he went to the store. He'll be right back. You must be Karly. It's so nice to meet you. Sid has told us so much about you." his mother said

"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Crosby." Karly said

"Dear, call me Trina. You're pretty much family." his mom said hugging Karly.

Sidney gave Karly a smile and Karly smiled back "Thank-you." Karly said to Trina

"No problem, sweetheart. Now let's go wait in the family room for your father, Sidney." his mother said

Taylor grabbed Sidney by the arm and started pulling him "I have something to show you!" she said excitedly

Sidney laughed and followed her "Okay okay."

"So, Karly, Sidney tells me you'll be taking classes in the Spring to become a nurse." his mom said

Karl nodded "That's my plan. My father was a surgeon and I always loved the medical field."

"Sid told us about what happened...I'm terribly sorry." Trina said touching Karly's hand

Karly gave a little smile "It's ok. Since I've met Sidney...things have been better. He's such a great guy...you and Mr. Crosby raised him well."

Trina smiled "Thank-you, sweetheart."

After a few seconds of silence Sidney and Taylor returned, laughing and talking about hockey. Sidney put his arm around Karly and smiled "Everything going alright?"

Karly nodded "Trina and I were just talking."

Sidney smiled "Good." then the door clicked and Troy Crosby walked into the room.

"Hey, son, how was the flight home?" his dad asked

"It was good, dad." Sidney replied

"That's good. The last game was really great. 3 point night." his dad said

Sidney nodded "Thanks, dad. Hey, dad, this is my girlfriend Karly."

Troy smiled at her "Nice meeting you, Karly." he said extending his hand to her

"Nice to meet you too, sir." Karly said shaking his hand

"Please, call me Troy." his dad said smiling

Karly smiled back and Sidney gave her a nudge "Anyways, mom, is it time to eat..I'm starving." Sidney said

Trina laughed "You and you're appetite...it will be ready soon."

After supper, they chatted for a little bit, then Karly and Sidney headed back to his place. "So..." Sidney said as they got inside

"You were right." Karly said "Your parents...they're so nice."

Sidney smiled "Where do you think I got it from?". Karly playfully hit his arm "Oww...Karly..."he faked

Karly laughed "Oh I didn't even touch you." she teased

Sidney laughed and pulled her into his arms "Oh yeah?" he said

"Mhm." Karly replied

Sidney smiled and kissed her. "Well we better head to bed...Christmas is in the morning."

"I want you to open your present now." Karly said

"You didn't have to get me anything..."Sidney said

"Just open it...please?" Karly said handing him a present.

Sidney gave her that half smile and opened his gift he pulled out black and gold fleece blanket "Did you make this?" he asked

Karly nodded "Yeah do you like it?"

Sidney nodded "I love it! Thank-you." he said hugging her

"I remember you saying you wanted one when you saw the one Nikki made for me." Karly said

Sidney smiled "I did and now I have one...and it's so much better cause you made it. Okay...you have to open your's now." he handed Karly a present.

Karly smiled up at him and opened his gift. It was a white gold necklace with a hockey stick pendent with a small heart on the end with the number #87 engraved on it. "Sid, it's so beautiful...where'd you get it?"

Sidney blushed slightly "Well...I had it made for you."

Karly smiled "I love it. Thank-you." she said putting it on

"Merry Christmas, Karly." Sidney said

"Merry Christmas to you, Sidney." Karly replied. Then they kissed and he carried her up to his bedroom.
