Karly smiled the entire short drive to the ice cream parlor in the downtown area. She and Sidney just chatted about their day. Sidney pulled into the parking lot and before Karly could move, Sidney was opening her door. "Why thank-you, Sidney." she said

Sidney smiled "You can call me Sid, if you want...everyone does."

Karly smiled back "OK." They ordered their ice cream and took a seat in a a quiet corner

"So tell me about yourself, since you probably already know a lot about me." Sidney said taking a bite of his brownie sundae.

"Well, actually, other than knowing you're the Captain of the Penguins and you're really good I know nothing...but anyways. I'm Karly van Slyck. Born and raised in California. Went to prep schools my whole life. I know German and French fluently. I like to read. My father was a surgeon and my mom a lawyer. I really want to get into nursing or the medical field like my dad." Karly said taking a drink of her strawberry shake

Sidney nodded "Interesting...um if you don't mind me asking, how did your parents die?"

"Plane crash. They were headed home from Jamaica, when there were complications." Karly said

"I'm sorry. That must be really difficult." he said looking away

"It's OK. I've been doing good." Karly said touching his hand. Sidney smiled "So tell me more about you."

"Well, I'm Sidney Crosby...I've been playing hockey since I was like 3. Born and raised in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. I have a younger sister. I like country music and learning about history. I'm a real simple guy when it comes to how I dress and I love my team, like my own family." he said

"You like history?" Karly asked

Sidney nodded "It's fascinating."

"I had been studying history at UCLA. I love learning about the past." Karly said

"Really? Wow we have something in common." Sidney replied smiling even more

Karly couldn't help but to smile back "Mhm. So you mentioned that my house is by your owner's..."

"Yeah, Mario Lemieux. I live with him during season, but I'm staying a bit longer than usual, since we have a short Summer." Sidney replied

"Oh...so are you still going back to Canada?" Karly asked

"I actually just got back." Sidney said

Karly smiled "Good."

Sidney raised his eyebrows "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Well...um...oh I was just going to say that I just met you and I really want to get to know you more and it'd be hard to do that if you're in Canada." Karly replied shyly

Sidney smiled "I want to get to know you more, too."

Karly smiled. She and Sidney got up and headed outside. "So...do you want to come over and hang out?" she asked

Sidney frowned "I'd love to, but I can't. Mr. and Mrs. Lemieux are going out and I'm watching the younger kids...I'd ask you to come over, but uh I don't think Mario would allow that."

"Oh it's fine. Another day?" Karly asked hopefully

Sidney nodded "Of course. Well I better get you home." he drove back to her place and pulled into the driveway "Thanks for coming tonight. I had such a good time being normal for once."

Karly smiled "Thanks for asking me and thanks for the shake. I had a great time too."

"Well, have a nice night. Text me?" Sidney said

Karly nodded "You too and I will. See you." she said hopping out of his car. She noticed he waited until she was inside before he left. "What a gentleman." she thought. Karly smiled, changed into pajamas and curled up in bed. For the first time in the past week, she knew she wasn't going to cry herself to sleep all thanks to Sidney Crosby.
