Chapter 1

“This is Brittany; she’s going to be the team Sport Psychologist. She graduated from Barry University this spring with a Masters in Sports and Performance Psychology.” Coach Ruff introduced me with a smile, and I am sure mine matched, but could you blame me? This was the day I finally got to meet the team, the day I have been looking forward to all summer. After all the paper work and meetings, it was finally worth it. “Are there any questions for Brittany?”
“Yes, I have one?” All heads turned in the direction of the voice and no one seemed surprised that the voice belonged to Tyler Seguin. “Are you single?”
I bite my lip trying to hold back my laugher. That was the first time I’ve ever been asked that one. Usually I got a Sport Psychologist, what’s that, or sometimes even a Sport Psychologist, that sounds like fun, but I have never been asked that question. So I did what I did best when I didn’t want to answer a question, I changed the subject. “Any questions that pertain to my job,” I asked, pulling my eyes away from the dark haired boy. Excuse me if I didn’t really want to discuss my relationship status with a group of guys.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” I heard him mumble under his breath as I turned to address the rest of the guys.
“Where are you from?” One of the younger players asked.
“Well I am originally from Chicago, but I have leaved in Florida for the past two years and Oklahoma before that?”
The room was quite as they processed what I just said, but then Mr. Are You Single spoke, “Blackhawks.” The rest of the room looked back at me and I knew at this point they all wanted to know that answer, so how could I refuse.
“No,” I shook my head with a smile, “Avalanche.”
“Well I guess we can deal with that.” Antoine Russell laughed from the other side of the room and the team was quick to follow.
“Wait though,” Jordie Benn spoke up from his spot in the room, “the question of truth, who’s your favorite player?”
I bite my lip not really sure what to tell them, “That’s a tough one, I have two. Matt Duchene, and um…” I took a deep breath because I wasn’t really sure how this answer was going to go over with the boys, “Jamie Benn.” I smiled, and I knew my cheeks were as red as Benn’s right now. It wasn’t my intention to embarrass him, but I knew that he was a very shy guy, and like me, hated when attention was draw to him.
“Wow,” Tyler laughed and everyone once again turned to look at him. “You have same bad taste is players.”
“I don’t know,” I shrugged, “I think I have some pretty good taste compared to my sister.”
“Do you,” he challenged, one eyebrow raised. “And who’s your sister’s favorite player?”
“You,” I laughed with a grin. It wasn’t that I really had anything against Tyler Seguin, besides the fact that he was a known party boy, and he could be a little egotist.

“Well boys, I won’t keep you long,” I addressed the tired group as I entered the meeting room, all the guys gathered around the huge screen after their physicals. I decided I wouldn’t keep the boys longer then I had to so I gave myself an hour to give the boys there assessments and talk to them about what sport and performance psychology was as well as answer any questions that they might have, because I knew the boys probably had plenty of questions, and hopefully none of them pertained to my personal life. “We’re going to have some fun.”
“We are?” Russell asked as if I was joking, and I guess for them this might have been a joke.
“We are.” I confirmed as I held up the papers. “All of you are going to take these.”
“A test,” Russell asked, his eyes getting really big, I guess he was the spokesperson now, and personality I didn’t mind he had a nice accent. “I haven’t studied.”
“It’s a personality indicator,” I smiled, but from the looks on their faces I could tell that didn’t mean anything to them. “It’s nothing you can study for.”
“But it’s still a test,” Mr. Are You Single spoke up.
“It’s an assessment,” I smiled as I passed out the test and handed the guys a pencil. “This isn’t hard, you don’t need to think.” I smiled as I handed him his assessment, “that should be easy for you shouldn’t it.” I told him as I continued my rounds around the table. “Just fill in the bubble to the answer that first grabs your attention.”
“Seriously,” he asked as he examined the questions in front of him. “Soft or hard,” he sighed, “so you’re not going to judge us based on our answers, right?”
“No,” I shook my head as I continued to pass around the assessments. “I just need you to be as honest as possible.”
“Okay,” he seemed to relax after that, “I can do that.” He nodded as he continued to fill in the sheet.

"So did you enjoy your first day?” I sighed as I sat at my desk scoring the assessments. I didn’t even need to turn around to recognize the all too familiar voice. He was defiantly going to be a handful.
“I did.” I smiled as I turned to look at the young man leaning on the door frame, tattooed arms cladded over his chest.
“So I never did get my answer.” A devilish smile covered his face as he looked down at me, his brown eyes holding a spot of mischief in them.
“What question?” I asked, and I could feel my eyebrows pull together as I thought about what question of his I possibly missed.
“My most important question,” he winked at me with a smiled that I am sure he used on all the ladies, “Are you single?”
Well I guess I was wrong, I exhaled, “What does it matter?”
He shrugged it off, “Well how am I supposed to know if I should invite you over tonight?”
I sighed with a roll of my eyes, “As flattering as that is, single or not, I can tell you it’s never going to happen.”
“What’s never going to happen?” He questioned as he studied me.
“Me sleeping with you,” I confirmed. I wasn’t some girl that was going to just throw my life away for some guy, no matter who that guy was.
“Nobody said anything about sleeping together, but if that’s what you want…” He shrugged, “maybe we can work something out.”
I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks as I quickly shoved the papers into my bag and flung it over my shoulder, “That’s a definite conflict of interest, Seguin.” I spat his name, as I pushed passed him, hoping he didn’t notice my rosy cheeks.

“You got to meet Tyler Seguin?” My sister practically screamed in my ear once I picked up the phone. I didn’t even get a change to acknowledge her before she was questioning me. I guess it shouldn’t have surprised me that the only thing she was concerned about when Tyler Seguin.
“I did,” I told her with a smile. “And he is definitely something else, I’ll give him that.”
“Why, what happened?”
“Nothing,” I shook my head deciding I’d leave out the part where I practically called him a man slut. “He’s a talker though, I will say that.”
“Okay,” she said and I could just image her rolling her eyes because I knew she didn’t believe me. “So I’ll get to meet him when I come down, right?” Her words were rushed with excited as she squealed into the phone.
“I’ll see what I can do,” I told her.
“Brittany,” she whined, “If you got me to meet Tyler Seguin you would be my favorite sister.”
“Breanna,” I sighed with a smile, “I’m your only sister.”
“I know, but it was worth a try. So how was your first day?”
“It was awesome.” I told her, the smile returning to my face as I told her all about my first day. “And the best part is the Coach told me that if I buy a pair of skates I can skate with the team after practice, or when I’m in charge of the drills.”
“That’s so cool. Just don’t fall on your ass.”
“I’ll try not to,” I laughed along with her. “But if I do, maybe I can get Seguin to help me.” I teased her, but I know she didn’t think it was very funny.
“He’s mine Brittany.”
“I know.” I laughed at how defensive she got over a guy she’s never even met. “And trust me, I have no intention of taking him from you.”
