Chapter 19

“You know I hate you right now, right?” I told Tyler as I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned my hip on Tyler’s counter, as he helped me carry the bags into his house from my car so that I could make Thanksgiving dinner for the team.
“Me,” Tyler asked, as he set the last of the bags on the counter before he turned to look at me, his eyes questioning me before his words. “Why?”
“Yes, you,” I rolled my eyes, who else would I be talking to, “Mr. Why don’t we have an American cook us Thanksgiving dinner this year.”
“It was just a suggestion.”
I just shook my head as I turned back to the bag that he just brought in and started taking out what I needed. I took a deep breath as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and whispered in my ear, “I don’t see what the big deal is. I thought you liked to cook.”
“I do,” I sighed as I leaned my head on Tyler’s should, “I’ve just… I’ve never cooked thanksgiving dinner before, and I’ve defiantly never cooked for a whole hockey team before.”
“Don’t worry Brittany.” Tyler smiled as he placed a kiss to my temple. “It’s not actually the whole team, more like half the team.”
I rolled my eyes, “well that makes me feel better.”
“Come on Brittany, this is going to be fun.” He smiled as he picked up an apple off the counter and I swatted his hand away. “I’ll help you.”
“Great that makes me feel loads better.” I chuckled as I pulled away, but grabbed the bags of lettuce from the fridge anyway. I sighed as I handed the bags to him. “Don’t screw this up.”
“A guy cuts an apple wrong one time and he’s never allowed to forget it.” He groaned as he took the bags from me with an overly dramatic breathe.
I smirked as I stepped onto my tippy toes and placed a kiss to his cheek. “Welcome to the world of friendship.”

“So you don’t drink?” Roussel asked beer in hand. It was just after 9 that night, and everyone with families up and left about an hour ago, which left me with the normal group, but luckily or maybe not so lucky for me, I wasn’t the only girl. Roussel’s and Jordie’s girlfriends both made an appearance tonight. Both tall and blond, the complete opposite of me, which only made me wonder what Tyler truly seen in me.
“No,” I shook my head, after my announcement at dinner that I didn’t drink I became the talk of the party, who would have thought not be able to drink would be what interested these guys. “I’m actually allergic to alcohol.”
“Allergic to alcohol,” Tyler questioned as he popped up between Roussel and I, beer in hand. “Is that just some excuse so you don’t have to drink?”
“I wish,” I rolled my eyes with a sigh, “Try pledging for a sorority and the first night you have a drink. The next thing you know you’re in the hospital because you collapsed and to top it all off, I don’t remember any of it.”
“You know what that’s call,” Roussel laughed, “a hangover.”
“It was not a hangover Roussel.” That much I knew and from what I understand a hangover probably would have been better.
“Such it wasn’t,” he winked, earning an eye roll in return.
“Allergic to alcohol, I didn’t even know that was a thing.”
“Most people don’t. Including my sorority sisters, I scared the shit out of them that night. I was pretty sure I was out of the sorority at that point, but thankfully they did find me useful as DD. I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason they kept me around.”
“It could have been worse,” Roussel gave me a playful grin, “they could have put you on puke control.”
“I guess when you put it that way DD doesn’t sound so bad.”
“Sure doesn’t.” Roussel smiled before he took another sip of his beer. “So I guess that ruins your plan then, huh Segs,” Roussel nudged Tyler with a laugh causing Tyler to choke as he took a sip of his beer.
“What plan?” I asked, with a glance at Tyler before turning back to Roussel not sure if I wanted to hear this answer.
“Segs was hoping that if he got you drunk enough that maybe then you’d sleep with him.” Roussel laughed, as Tyler’s grip on his beer tightened. “But don’t worry Brittany, I wouldn’t let him do that, I like you too much.”
I took a deep breath and could feel my nails dig into my palms and the tears gather in my eyes as I turned to Tyler, “Yea, well we never need to worry about that happening.”
