Chapter 20

“I can’t believe I was stupid enough to believe him,” I whispered to Cash and I could feel myself sinking. “I knew he couldn’t possibly like me, not when he could have a girl like Jordie and Roussel have.” I could feel the tears slid down my cheeks as I sat on Tyler’s porch, Cash’s head in my lap as I rubbed behind his ears.
Truthfully I was tempted to leave the party, but I figured the guys would find that a little suspicious so I settled for the excuse that I needed some fresh air when I couldn’t hold back the hurt I felt any longer. Cash following me out was just a bonus.
It wasn’t until I was outside though that the tears really started to flow, but I quickly whipped the tears off my cheeks as I heard the porch door slid open and then close from behind me. Cash, noticing who it was before me, wagged his tail, giving me one guess as to who it was.
I took a deep breath as I felt this person sink into the chair next to me.
“So what, no sex for two weeks really going to kill you,” I whispered, as I watched the water ripple in his pool. I knew there had to be some catch to this party, to the reason he really wanted me to give him a chance. He could have any girl he wanted; I was just another game for him.
I could see him shake his head out of the corner of my eye. “It’s been more like two months if you wanted to get technical.”
“Two months,” I bite my lip as I realized what he meant. “You haven’t slept with anyone for two month. I find that kind of hard to believe.”
“Well believe it or not, it’s the truth,” he shallowed as he ran a hand though his dark hair and I could see his chest raise and fall as he looked out across the yard. “I haven’t been able to look at another girl since you first stepped out of that black equinox.”
“Really Tyler,” I asked finding that hard to believe. There were plenty of girls out there that were so much prettier than me and Tyler could get anyone of them I’m sure.
“Really Brittany,” he confirmed, and I could feel his eyes on me as I occupied myself with patting Cash. “I knew the minute you walked into the locker room that first day of training camp that there was something special about you. You weren’t like other girls, and you didn’t take any of my shit. The guys had a field day with that by the way.” He beamed with a shake of his head.
“I’m sure they did,” I smiled still watching my hand as I rubbed over Cash’s black fur.
“They did, which is why after are first game against the Blues some of the guys went out but I wasn’t really in the mood. Somehow your name got brought up and I was joking around with the guys that maybe if I got you drunk enough maybe then you’d sleep with me. Trust me I never really planned on doing that,” he was still looking at me, and even without turning my head I could feel him begging me with his eyes to believe him, “Especially after I got to know you and realized that I wanted you in ways that I never wanted anyone before.”
“Ways you never wanted anyone before,” I laughed. “You do realize how cliché that sounded right,” I said, not able to pass up the moment to poke fun at him.
He didn’t say anything as he studied his hands that rested on his lap, his cheeks slightly red. “Yea, but it’s true.”
“It’s okay Tyler,” I took a deep breath as I turned to him and grabbed his hand that rested on his lap. “I like you more than a Canadian like’s maple syrup.” I laughed, I was never one for all this lovely dovey crap, and this had gotten way to serious for me.
I only laughed harder as Tyler slowly turned to look at me, his lips turned up in a million dollar smile. “So you do like me?”
“No,” I shook my head with a laugh, “I’ve just been dying to use that line.”
“Sure you have,” a delighted grin covered his face. “So are we okay?”
I nodded, “yea.”
“Good, because I have been dying to do this all night.” He smiled as he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my lips. I closed my eyes as my hands slipped up around his neck, but it didn’t last long before Cash barked, apparently not liking that his owner was getting all the attention now.
“You’re going to have to learn to share buddy.” Tyler pulled away with a smile as he shook his head at Cash. “So Cody and Daddy were pulling up some Karaoke on YouTube, if you’d like to go and watch them.”
“I would love to.” I smiled as I stood up, Tyler and Cash followed suit. No way was I going to miss my chance to see Demers sing.
