'Kieran's POV'

Working a 9 to 5 always sounds like the ideal job until your 9-5 is filled with barking, meowing, and the lingering smell of poop. Okay, yes I LOVE my job but some days it just sucks. Especially those days when I have to put down someone's beloved pet, those shifts are the absolute worst! Thankfully today was not one of those days and I can go home to my own dog and not feel guilty looking into his eyes. As I pull into the parking spot of my house I smile seeing Jamie's truck in the driveway meaning that he is finally home from his roadtrip.

The season is just getting started and I'm still readjusting to him leaving for days at a time. This process sucks each and every year, and I hear from my fellow WAGs it never gets easier. I get out of my Jeep and walk into the house greeted immediately by our four legged fur child. Even in his full grown state Knox barely reaches my kneecap. Crouching down I scratch his head as he sniffs the other animals scents on my blue-green scrubs "Hi buddy, where's your dad?!" I ask and his ears perk up as he runs off to find Jamie, his nails sliding on the hardwood floor.

As I walk to find my boyfriend in our large house I pull the blue scrub top over my head leaving me in a white v-neck and matching blue-green scrub pants. I hear a small bark from Knox as I spot Jamie laying on the couch an arm behind his head and the TV playing the NHL network. "Hi baby," I call out as flop down on top of him kissing him for the first time in 3 days I feel his lips curl into a smile. "Hi," he answers when I sit up allowing him to breathe once again. I take note of his outfit consisting of nice jeans and shirt he wouldn't normally wear around the house. "Are you and the guys going out? Oh shit, we didn't have plans did we?" I ask praying to God that I hadn't forgotten about date night. He smiles sitting up and kissing me again, "No, I'm not going out with the guys. But I thought maybe we could go out."

I breathe a sigh of relief, "Okay, where to? What should I wear?" I ask standing off the couch pulling at the drawstring on my scrub pants. "Well I'm wearing this, so nothing fancy." Jamie laughs gesturing to his outfit as I step out of my pants and turn to walk up the stairs leaving him with a full view of the lacy underwear I had worn on purpose today. "Okay, I'll be ready in 20!" I yell down to the grinning man on our couch. As promised 20 minutes later I return dressed in an outfit that I would call very casual jeans, a simple shirt, scarf, and booties perfect for mid-October. "Ready?" I ask stepping off the stairs, Jamie sits up his eyes moving from his phone screen to meet mine. "Yeah, wow babe you look gorgeous." I shake my head, "Yeah, yeah I'm hungry let's go Casanova."

'Jamie's POV'

It's nearing 7 o'clock when the two of us finish dinner and Kieran has absolutely no clue of what's about to happen to her. Dinner was simple at one of our favorite steakhouses and I haven't clued her in that our next stop isn't heading back home. When we've been sitting in silence for a few minutes and Kieran's focus in on her phone I pipe up, "Are you ready for your surprise now?" Her bright blue eyes narrow in on me and her lips purse like she's mad. After almost 3 years I know she HATES surprises which makes messing with her even more fun.

"Jamie, it's not my birthday and it's not our anniversary yet.." she says clearly annoyed, I shrug, "So? Are you ready or not?" She groans, "Fine, Benn. What do you have up your sleeve tonight?" I laugh and lead her out to the truck, after she gets into the passenger seat she is blindfolded, "Is this necessary?" she complains and I can't help but laugh. "Could you maybe not complain for like 5 minutes Kier?" I ask and she sticks her tongue out like a child. When we arrived at the American Airlines Center I get out and help her down from the truck, leading her into the arena. The place completely empty tonight but will be packed tomorrow for our home game, it's amazing to see it empty one day and packed the next.

As we walk through the tunnels Kieran is still blindfolded and I know she's going crazy trying to figure out where she is, when we emerge out by the ice she speaks. "Are we at the arena?" she asks and I'm shocked. "How did you- can you see through that?" I ask and she giggles. "No, it's cold and it's a familiar smell. Now undo this Jame, I know where I am." I tell her to sit before I untie the bandana from her eyes, she blinks a few times adjusting to the light before taking in the view from the players bench. "So what are we doing here?" she questions, "Because we made a deal that I only have to skate once a year!" She was right we agreed the Christmas skate was the only time she had to skate considering how bad she is at it. "We're not skating, unless you want to. You could really use the practice!" She slaps my arm, "Ass." she mumbles.

"Do you wanna know why we're here?" I ask her and she nods, "I wanted to tell and show you what I love about this place, and I want to know what you love about it too." She smiles, "You wanna know what I love about this arena Jame?" "Yeah, I do." I respond and she stands up and leans against the boards pointing to center ice, "I love that I get to watch you be so happy every time you're on the ice here. This is your happy place, I love that everyone in this building cheers as a family. I love how much this place and your job mean to you, you're a great captain Jamie. This is your place. I love this place because you love this place." Her answer astounds me, a smile is glued to my face "Thank you," is all I can say right now I'm too shocked at what she said.

She sits back down Indian style with her body facing me, "What do you love about this place J?" That's a loaded question, I could go on forever but the real reason why is sitting next to me. "I love this place because it brought me to you. If it weren't for hockey and for Tyler I wouldn’t have you, I love that you support me in this building every game. I love that from this bench I can see you up in the box cheering for me and the whole team. I never want to play a game in this arena without you here cheering for me, and when I retire I want to watch games here with you." Kieran's smiling but I don’t know if she got where I was going with all of this.

So here it goes, I stand up from the bench taking a deep breath. "I think it's time to make sure you're not going anywhere for real Kieran." Her eyes widen as I reach into my pocket, "So what I'm saying is, I want you to stand beside me in this building and in every other aspect of my life for forever. These past 3 years have been the best years of my life, and I don’t want to spend another one without you. I love you Kieran Makayla O'Reilly, will marry me?" I ask as I'm down on one knee in a very tight space. Her eyes are watering, and she's covered her gaping mouth with her right hand and I'm nervous for a second but then her head begins to nod yes. "Ohmygod. Of course! Yes, I'll marry you Jamie!" she squeals and I exhale the air I've been holding in as I remove the promise ring and slide the new ring onto her left hand.

'Kieran's POV'

My heart is racing and tears of joy are flowing down my cheeks, thank God for waterproof mascara! Standing from the bench I throw my arms around Jamie's shoulders, around MY FIANCES shoulders! His lips meet with mine and all I can feel is happy and loved, the American Airlines Center is definitely my favorite building in all of Dallas after that proposal! Pulling away I move my hands to Jamie's face, taking in the gorgeous ring on my finger. "I love you, to the moon and back Jamie" I whisper staring into his dark eyes, I laugh a little as he grins "but I still hate surprises!" Jamie laughs at me as he places a light kiss on the tip of my nose, "I know you do, but you have one more." Rolling my eyes as he reaches under the bench and pulls out a box.

Sitting down on the bench once again he hands me the box and I take the lid off, noting the victory green poking out from behind the white tissue paper. It's a jersey. Pulling the material from the box I check out the front, there is of a course a C on chest and a Dallas Stars logo on the front but the name on the back isn't on any roster. Atop the large number 14 running across the shoulders in bright white letters is "MRS BENN". "What do you think?" Jamie asks a dorky grin across his face like this is the most amazing thing he's ever thought of. "It's cute babe, thank you!" Looking at how happy Jamie is I can't help but smile up at him, "I can't wait to be Mrs. Benn!" The sound of my new name rolls through my head, I really like the sound of it, Dr. Kieran Benn!
