'Jamie's POV'

Having a dog and being engaged to a vet has some serious perks. My dog is taken care of everyday by someone who knows almost too much about animals, is fed the absolute best food, and gets health checkup each time he jumps up on Kieran's lap. Yeah maybe Knox is a little spoiled! But there are some things Kieran can't take care of in the comfort of our house, like shots. And today is not Knox's lucky day because he's getting a handful of shots, and he knows it. He's been whining since we got in the car and not even the promise of seeing mom is perking him up. The dog is smart, he knows that seeing mom outside of the house means going to the vet and that means shots. On my way to Kieran's office I swing by Starbucks grabbing her favorite drink knowing she can always use the extra energy at work. Pulling into the parking lot I'm a little nervous, this is my first time going into her new office. Hillside is a lot different than visiting the old surgery center and this time I actually have a dog with me.

Knox struts his way through the door getting awws from the older people in the waiting room, only one person makes any indication that they know who I am other than the receptionist. But that's to be expected, she greets Knox and I before letting Kieran know that we are here. Knox is laying at my feet when Kieran comes out to the waiting room, clad in her usual set of scrubs she smiles as she grabs Knox's chart from the front desk. "Come on back," she says as she waves us over.

Knox runs over and I let go of his leash, "Are you being good for dad?" she asks rubbing his ears and taking ahold of the green Stars leash. I shrug, "He didn’t pee in the car this time, so that's good." She stands and kisses me quickly, "That's because he's potty trained now, and it's not storming. Is that mine?" she asks gesturing towards the red Starbucks Christmas cup as we walk into an exam room. "Of course, princess" I say sarcastically handing her the cup she sits in next to the sink as she lifts Knox onto the exam table.

Watching Kieran work I feel like any other dog parent, confused and concerned as she does a full checkup on Knox before giving him his shots. I feel sorry for the poor pup as she gets the needles ready and I know she feels bad as his owner to be jabbing him with the sharp objects but it's for his own good. "1,2,3" Kieran counts before giving him all of the shots, after he's done she rewards him with a treat she's been keeping in her scrub pocket. "Is he done?" I ask her as she writes on his chart and peels off her gloves tossing them in a trash can. Knox whines as she sits him on the floor, clearly groggy from the vaccines.

"He needs to stay in here for 20 minutes just to make sure he doesn't have a reaction to the shots." She grabs her coffee and walks towards me sitting down on my lap, "So, you can have my full attention for 20 minutes." Smiling I lean down and kiss her, tasting the peppermint flavor of her coffee, "We could do a lot of things in 20 minutes." A giggle escapes her lips as she runs her fingers through my hair, "Get your mind outta the gutter Benn." I poke her in the sides making her squirm, "What are you going to do when your last name is Benn too? It won't be so sassy then."

Her perfect little nose scrunches up, "Maybe I won't take your last name…" I give her the "Excuse me?" face making her laugh, "I'm kidding Jamie, you know I can't wait to be Dr. Benn! It'll be so much easier to write!" I roll my eyes, "Shut up," I say before kissing her still laughing at her reasons for taking my name. "Speaking of changing your last name, we should probably pick a day to do that." She groans leaning her head on my shoulder, "Not you too, Jame." Taking her chin between my fingers I get her to look up at me, "I'd marry you tomorrow baby, but our families would be kinda upset with that." Kieran's lips curl into a smile as she kisses me softly before climbing off my lap, "How about we talk about it after dinner?" Standing up and stretching I agree as Knox and I follow her out of the exam room, stopping back at the receptionist's desk.

"He needs to be seen again in 2 months Kylie." Kieran tells the blonde and she nods, "Sure thing Dr. O'Reilly, does he need to sign these or are you signing?" Kieran looks down at her watch then back at me and the papers, "Jame you got it, I have another appointment." Nodding I grab the pen as she slides by kissing my cheek as she goes, "Love you see you later!" she calls out sliding back through the door. After signing the forms the girl gives me a card with Knox's appointment info on it, "Here you go Mr. Benn, and congratulations! Dr. O'Reilly is an amazing person." I give the young blonde a smile, "Thank you, I am a lucky guy."
