Never Let Go.

Baby Mobile.

‘Jamie’s POV’

There are many things that Kieran has had to give up on her adventure into motherhood. First it was coffee, and let me just tell you that was NOT pretty for a while! That girl LOVES coffee, in fact I’m sure half of her blood supply is made of coffee but she got used to it eventually, and I got used to her tearing my head off in the mornings. Then her body started to change, for the first time her athletic built body was no longer under her control. I think she looks even more beautiful carrying my child but who am I to say? She’s convinced she looks like a beluga whale even though when you look at her from behind you wouldn’t even know that she is pregnant. But there is no sense in arguing with her, I've learned thus far that "You're right babe," is the answer to everything in life.

The further she along she got and the less energy she had came less hours at work, this wouldn’t really bother most people but to Kieran it was like giving up an arm. We agreed that she would only go in for large surgeries or the "fun stuff" as Kieran called it, or for checkups when the office was super busy. She begged to go into the office all the time but she needed to rest being on her feet all day long was not good for Lennan. . By the time our child had a name it was easier to guilt trip her into doing the things she hated, if it was “for Lennan” it would get done with no complaints.

However all of these things seemed like simple changes compared to the last “big change” that needed to happen before Len’s arrival. The baby mobile. There was no way in hell that I was letting Kieran keep her old Jeep Wrangler to drive our child around in. The car may only be 6 years old but it was still not a very family friendly vehicle and Kieran was not letting go of it without a fight. Not even the promise of any car she wanted made her happy, she just wanted to keep the old Jeep.

“Come on babe, you know there’s a car out there that you’ll like.” I try to plead with her on the way to the dealership. With her arms crossed over her chest she stares ahead at the road, “I like my car Jamie, there is nothing wrong with it.” Here we go again, my grip tightens on the steering wheel “Safety is what’s wrong with it Kieran, it’s not safe for our baby.”

She huffs rubbing her hand over her stomach, “I’m fine and I’ve been driving it for years, she will be fine too.” Pulling into the car lot I park the Jeep and look over at her, arguing over safe vehicles is not how I want to spend Valentine’s Day but Kieran seems pretty set in her ways. “Babe, I know you love this car but, I love you two too much to let you drive around in it. I need to know you’re safe when I’m not here.” Kieran’s blue eyes look over to me her bottom lip pulled between her teeth, she looks like she still wants to argue this but she doesn’t. “Fine, I’ll look for a new car.”

‘Kieran’s POV’

Jamie is royally pissing me off with all of this safety shit, every car I look at isn’t safe or practical enough. I’m not sure if he wants me to get a damn minivan or a tank, but either way it’s not happening. He won’t even let me look in the Jeep lot, even though the other models of Jeeps are much safer than my old Wrangler he is not having it. Lot after lot we’ve seen almost all of the SUVs the dealership has to offer, “Do you see anything yet?” Jamie asks and I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief. “Yeah, but you’ve hated them all. What do you want me to get a tank?”

He laughs but points over to a blacked out SUV, “What about that?” The salesman smiles at him, “That’s a new Range Rover, we hadn’t quite made it to the luxury lot yet.” We approach the vehicle, it’s very sleek and shiny but it’s also very fancy and comes with a hefty price tag. “Are they safe?” my overly concerned husband asks the salesman and he gives us the long spiel about how it is top of its class in safety and it is gas efficient. “Do you like it Kier?” After looking at the interior and envisioning a car seat in the back I decide it’s not a bad choice. “I guess, it’s a little pricy don’t you think?” He shoots me a look like “seriously?” before turning to the salesman, “We’ll take it.”

After a mountain of paperwork and a test drive later I have to kiss my precious Jeep goodbye. It honestly feels like a funeral, I have a lot of good memories in that car from college to present day. A lot has happened in on those four wheels and as much as it pains me to let it go I know deep down that Jamie is right. The Range Rover may not be my first choice as my dream car but if it’s safe for our baby girl I’ll do anything for her.

Notes

I mean I wouldn't complain if somebody wanted to buy me a Range Rover! I would gladly give up my shitty Jeep (Mine is way older than Kierans LOL) ;) Daddy Benn is already protective of that little girl and she's not even here yet! Who's excited?! Or is anyone still reading this? Ya'll have been EXTRA quiet lately... xoxo - Ally
