Never Let Go.

Bird

‘Kieran’s POV’

Did you know that if you stare at the ceiling tiles long enough they will begin to merge into one big square? Or you know, so I’ve noticed as I’ve been lying on Lennan’s nursing floor for about 45 minutes now, just taking it all in. I’m not sure why I’m laying here when there is a perfectly good rocking chair sitting in the corner of the room but, baby brain makes you do all sorts of crazy things. And, baby brain is basically my excuse for everything these days!

According to my “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” book I am in the stage of “nesting” which means all I want to do is prep Lennan’s nursery. The concept of nesting has my husband cracking all sorts of bird jokes that only he think are funny. Apparently this is only a mom thing because Jamie’s daddy books don’t have a chapter on it. Yes, he has books and believe it or not hockey players can read! I may have to flag the important things for him but he does read them, because “it’s for Lennan” and that little girl already gets whatever she wants.

Jamie and the team have been gone for a few days playing a string of games in Canada, which means my mom and Lauren check on me every couple of hours. This also leaves me to my own devices AKA a paint brush and Netflix. Being pregnant has made me very crafty, our house has gotten a lot more “homey” in the past few months! Jamie suggested that we bring in an interior designer to decorate the nursery but I shot that proposal down. This was a mother’s job and I had plenty of ideas for Lennan’s nursery to go around!

After spending countless hours on Pinterest and Etsy, and perusing the aisles at Babies’ R Us and Target I decided on a color scheme and “theme” for Len’s room. Shades of coral with hints of navy blue, cream walls, and gold glitter with a bohemian “wild child” theme were to be the final product. I chose floral prints and arrows, with different shape patterns to cover the sheets of the crib and changing table. The design was different and it went well with her name, different but classic at the same time.

Thankfully Jamie and the guys had already assembled the crib, rocker, changing table, and dresser before setting off on their road trip. Let me tell you that was quite a sight! I came home from the grocery store to a driveway full of vehicles and wandered inside to find hockey players scattered throughout the house assembling baby furniture left and right. There were tools everywhere and curse words flying but it was so heartwarming to see all of them prepping for Lennan’s arrival. She didn’t know it yet but Lennan has a whole hockey team full of “uncle’s” who will protect her at all costs.

Today’s piece to the puzzle was supposed to be painting the walls and the dresser, a feat that I thought I could accomplish by myself. Oh, was I wrong. The basketball under my shirt proved to be quite the road block in painting the high walls of the nursery, so I stopped took a picture of the damage and sent it to Jamie.

*This is a job for daddy and super uncles…*

I could practically hear him laughing at my failures through the phone, but he agreed and somehow roped Tyler, Cody, and Demers into painting the walls when they get home. I did however get to paint the dresser, an idea I had stolen from Pinterest. I painted the three drawers in an Ombre pattern from dark to light in shades of Coral to pale pink, with gold lines and gold knobs. It looked good to me, and at the moment that’s all that matters. I’m sure Lennan isn’t really going to care all that much about what her room looks like, at least not for the first couple of years.

Looking around the room from my spot on the floor at the piles of decorations and furnishings I can’t help but smile. It’s all coming together and soon this room will hold our little girl and all of the adventures that come with her. In under 3 months she will make her arrival and completely turn our lives upside down. I’ve never been so excited to be sleep deprived and thrown up on! As crazy as my life is already with hockey I cannot wait to add being a mother to my list of reasons why I am a hot mess. Jamie and I have tackled many things together in our years together and being parents is the next obstacle on the list, and I know we can do it!

Notes
