Arrow Hawk: Birth of the Hockey Avengers

Jamie Benn sits in a chair at Tyler’s house. Cash and Marshall are snuggled up with him. Cash is on his lap and Marshall is at his feet. As he mindlessly watches the television set, which is tuned to golf, he can’t help but think about something else.

He gets to his feet, apologizing to the dogs and walks outside. Jamie was always a little different than Jordie or his sister. And it wasn’t because he was the smallest or because he was the shyest or even because he wouldn’t eat his brussel sprouts.

It was something unique.

Jamie lifts his head up and draws in a deep breath, closing his eyes. He can feel power surging through him and he has to release it. He drops his head and looks at the ground. Then he gazes up at a tree.

Well, I guess I can help Tyler by getting rid of a branch or two… Jamie thinks to himself. He focuses on a dangling one and his eyes flash emerald green before a sudden starry green energy beam shoots from his eyes at the tree branch.

The beam cuts through the branch and it drops to the ground. Jamie blinks and the beam vanishes and his eyes return to normal. He thinks about his childhood and how he’d accidently fried one of his classmates who was bullying him. Yes, Jamie had always been on the chubbier side and he’d been made fun of for it. Now, however he learns to live with it and accept that it is who he is. He accepts the nickname “Chubbs” given to him by his teammates but he also knows what he once did.

He was lucky that the kid recovered and didn’t bother him, but some others had heard about the incident and began taunting him, calling him “Star Vision”. Now that he is apart of the Stars he doesn’t mind the name. He has “star vision”...and he has learned to live with it and accept his bizarre powers.

Up until now, he has had no reason to use them, but with Tyler being so mysterious and Val vanishing all the time and Dallas having a protector, he can’t help but feel the need to unleash his energy, surging within him.

Jamie faces the tree again and taps into the energy once more. He cuts another branch down.

“Tyler, where are you and what are you up to?” Jamie asks himself as he collects three fallen branches and moves them to the curbside.

Suddenly, as if on cue, Tyler Seguin’s car pulls up. Val, Evelyn and Tyler are inside it. Tyler parks it in the driveway, passing Jamie and waving to him.

“Hiya Jamie!” Tyler calls out. “Did you trim my tree?”

“Yeah, it was bothering me and since you’re too lazy to do it...I figured why not,” Jamie responds with a shrug. “How was your vacation?”

“It was good.”

“Anything else?” Jamie presses, hoping Tyler will give him more. He hates when Tyler closes himself off and acts mysterious. It makes him uncomfortable.

“Well, Sidney’s place is amazing!”

“And he in Boston right now!” Val remarks.

Evelyn hops from the car, inspecting the branches. She turns to Jamie, looking at him awkwardly. “Jamie, are you feeling okay?” she asks.

“I’m fine, is Tyler? He’s been acting so mysterious lately that I can’t handle it! I just want the truth, Tyler Paul Seguin, are you visiting Brad behind my back, selling Sidney Stars secrets, what?” Jamie is ready to burst. But he can’t reveal his power, but the energy inside is too much. He grabs him head, covering his eyes and stumbles backward.

“Jamie!?” Evelyn gasps.

They all come toward him.

Jamie waves them off, with one hand, squeezing his eyes shut. “No, no, don’t come near me! I won’t hurt anyone again!”

“Jamie, what are you talking about?” Tyler questions, continuing forward. He touches the gun on his belt holster.

Jamie suddenly spins around and throws his arms to the sides. The starry energy beam shoots out and hits the ground. Evelyn gasps. Tyler yanks his gun out and points it at Jamie, who slowly turns to him. His eyes the emerald green color.

“I’m not normal, Tyler.”

Evelyn steps forward and flicks her palm out to the side, creating a ball of purplish-pink cosmic dust. “Neither am I Jamie Benn.”

“I knew should brought bow and arrows!” Val exclaims.

“Can it Valeri!” Tyler snaps. “I’m the one who was lied to by my own best friend!” He keeps the gun trained on Jamie, who blinks and causes his eyes to return to normal.

“Tyler, put the gun down, Jamie’s harmless,” Evelyn says.

“The hell he is! Why would you lie to me, Jamie? You could have told me that you had powers!”

“I was afraid...and I was also protecting you. Why did you lie to me? What have you been up to?”

“I’m learning to be a spy, training with Sidney. He has chaos magic, I stumbled upon it and I agreed to a deal with him, my silence for the ability to train to be a superspy!” Tyler explains, finally lowering the gun.

“Tyler, I’m sorry I lied to you, can you forgive me?” Jamie says.

Tyler sighs and relaxes, dropping the gun down. “I can. Can you forgive my mysterious behavior?”

“I can. No more secrets.”

“No more secrets, Jamie. I promise.”

They embrace each other in a hug. Evelyn shares a look with Val.

“So, Jamie’s got powers too apparently? Hawkley’s gonna love this, but we gotta tell him!” Evelyn remarks, scratching her head.

“Hawkley?” Jamie questions.

“He’s my boss. And now Val and Tyler’s. He’s very understanding, but...you have a lot to catch up on! And you’re coming with us!”

“Okay, what about the dogs?” Jamie questions.

“Jordie can watch them!” Tyler exclaims, stuffing the gun away once more.

“Where are we going?”

“Boston, that’s where the headquarters is!” Tyler states, patting Jamie on the back. “Also, sorry about aiming a gun at you, just instinct you know.”

“It’s fine, I would have done the same thing. I wish I knew how to prevent the laser beam from harming people. I never want to hurt you Tyler, you’re my best friend and I’ll never forgive myself if I kill you with my freak powers.”

“Hey!” Evelyn scolds. “You’re not a freak. You’re a hero Jamie Benn and Hawkley will help you. I promise. There is always a way to control powers.”

Jamie nods at her.

Tyler pats his friend. “She’s right.”

Tyler hops into the car. Jamie follows him. Evelyn and Val hop into the backseat. Jamie calls Jordie up and tells him what is happening and about watching the dogs. He immediately agrees to do so. Then the group heads back out, with Jamie. They make it to the airport and head to Boston...on a private jet.

Thanks to the custom design, probably a gift from Hawkley like Tommy the Hawkmobile was, they arrive in an hour tops. Jamie is an awe as he steps into the North End.

“Wait, are you all superheroes?” Jamie asks.

“Yeah. In a way,” Evelyn replies.

“That’s awesome! Oh my gosh Tyler, you too?”

“Well not yet, I just joined. We haven’t had a real case yet. But I did save Val from Max Pacioretty!”

“The Hab?”

“Yeah...he was fire-breathing dragon!” Tyler exclaims.

“Whoa! You think you know someone….” Jamie laughs. “Well, if Tyler’s gonna be a “hero”, me too. I’m in.” He clenches a fist and raises it into the air.

“Well, actually around here, I go by Scorpion and that’s Zvezda and Arrow Hawk!” Tyler introduces. “Do you have a cool codename in mind?”

“People used to tease me and call me ‘Star Vision’...” Jamie says.

“Star Vision?” Val echoes. “Arrow Hawk like Jamie name! It cool!”

“Awe, thanks Val, your name is cool too.” Jamie flashes him a sweet smile. “It’s s’ cute!”
