Arrow Hawk: Birth of the Hockey Avengers

Hawkley is conversing with Sidney Crosby in his main room as Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Evelyn O’Reilly, and Val Nichushkin enter. Patrick and Jonathan are inside as well. The two Blackhawks are making out in the back of the room.

“Get room Blackhawk lovers!” Val cat-calls.

Evelyn grabs his hand. “Alright, leave them alone, let them make out, Nichy.”

Hawkley stops talking to Sidney and looks at them. He looks at the ceiling. “Why am I not surprised that Jamie Benn is here now?!” He shakes his head, smiling.

“Star Vision,” Tyler says, “has mutant-like powers. Show him, Jamie.”

Jamie nods. He blinks, tapping into his powers and his eyes glow emerald green. Hawkley gasps.

“Jamie, not here!” Hawkley exclaims. “I believe you though! Come with me, everyone, to the training room, Sidney and I have news.”

Jamie blinks, his eyes returning to normal. He nods and looks to Tyler.

“You too Kaner and Tazer!” Hawkley exclaims.

Patrick and Jonathan break apart reluctantly. They join the group and follow Hawkley out of the main room and down the hall and into the training room, which was the black box room. They all huddle inside. Jonathan, Patrick, Tyler, Jamie, Val, Evelyn, Sidney and Hawkley. Sidney and Hawkley face them, as they sit down in a cluster together on the floor.

“What’s up, Hawkley my man?” Tyler remarks.

“Tyler, be respectful. And, Sidney and I were talking, I’d like to welcome our new trainer. I believe that Sidney will be beneficial to the success of our little group. And we have begun talks...I agree and have had a mind to do this as well. I’m planning to build a new headquarters building. North End is getting crowded. And it seems that there are more hockey players out there with superpowers. It’s time we build a new place.”

“I’ll be in charge while Hawkley is in charge of the project. So Mr. Seguin, our training can continue, but I guess I’ll also be in charge of everyone else. Zvezda, I take it, will help me, since she is the senior here.”

Evelyn turns to Tyler, “Which means no hitting on me Tyler Paul Seguin or I’ll make your life a living hell!”

“We cool Eve baby. I know my place, swear. But we should have a cool group name! I mean we’ll all be working together...maybe we can be like the Stawks or the Hockey Heroes...or….OR….better yet, we can be the Avengers!”

“The Avengers is already taken Tyler!” Patrick states.

“How about the Z-Men! You know like X-Men, only Z for Zvezda, cause she seems to be in charge here!” Jamie suggests.

Tyler punches him. “Horrible name!”

Evelyn chuckles. “I like your thinking there Jamie, but, sit down Tyler before you break something, going back to the Avengers thing...how about the Hockey Avengers?”

“Hockey Avengers? Хоккей Мстители?” Val questions, echoing her.

Evelyn faces the Russian archer. “Да, Валерий, Хоккей Мстители.”

“I like it!” Jonathan exclaims.

“Me too!” Patrick adds.

“Same here!” Jamie agrees.

“Tyler?” Evelyn questions.

Tyler sighs and smiles. “Yeah, that’s pretty badass!”

“So it’s settled,” Hawkley says. “I’ll leave you Hockey Avengers to train with Sidney, while I get started on the blueprints. Oh and Psychica - Kelly Mackinnon - should be here any second, Evelyn, fill her in on the new details please.”

“Will do Hawkley.”

The boss pats Sidney on the shoulder and then walks out, bidding them all farewell. They all wave and bid him farewell back. Then they turn back to Sidney, who signals to Evelyn to come join him. She does so immediately.

“Alright,” she says as Sidney nods to her. “Tyler, Jonathan, Patrick, Val and Jamie please stand up!”

They all do so. They get into a line, looking at one another. Evelyn surveys them and then walks up to Jamie, who is the first one on the end of the line closest to where she is. She shakes her hair out behind her and looks him in the eyes.

“Jamie Benn, do you agree to be a Hockey Avenger, working with Blackhawks, having their back and possibly others in order to maintain a balance in the world as well as in the NHL?” Evelyn asks.

“I can.”

“Good.” She turns to the next hero in line, Tyler Seguin, who for once doesn’t flirt with her. “Tyler Seguin, do you agree to be a Hockey Avenger, working with Blackhawks, having their back and possibly others in order to maintain a balance in the world as well as in the NHL?”

Tyler blinks. He pauses for a second and looks at Sidney and Jamie. Then he clears his throat and nods. “I can. If Jamie can, I can...and I will! Jonny and Patrick aren’t horrible Blackhawks to get along with either.”

“Good.” Evelyn pats him on the shoulder. “Promise not to be so headstrong...you’ll get into trouble. I do care about you Tyler. And Dallas needs you.”

Tyler nods. “I’ll try. Sidney said he’d help me out.”

“Excellent, grab your guns and spy gadgets then!” She moves to Patrick. “Patrick Kane, do you agree to be a Hockey Avenger, working with Stars, having their back and possibly others in order to maintain a balance in the world as well as in the NHL?”

“I can. I’ve worked with Tyler before. He’s not bad. It’ll be nice to be reunited with the talented young superstar!” Patrick glances at Tyler, who is getting his guns. They share friendly smiles with each other.

“You may fetch your hockey stick weapon.” Evelyn moves to Jonathan, with a dip of her head to the blond. “Jonathan Toews, do you agree to be a Hockey Avenger, working with Stars, having their back and possibly others in order to maintain a balance in the world as well as in the NHL?”

“I will and can.” Jonathan dips his head to her in respect.

“You may go ‘fire up’!” Evelyn remarks with a wink at the captain.

Jonathan smiles at her and nods. He steps to the side and cracks his neck. He waves his hand over the activation Blackhawk symbol, implanted in his wrist. Instantly black hawk-like wings with red tips protrude from his back.

“Welcome Captain Blackhawk….or CB!” Evelyn cries, before she spins to the last remaining hockey player. “Valeri Nichushkin, do you agree to be a Hockey Avenger, working with Blackhawks, having their back and possibly others in order to maintain a balance in the world as well as in the NHL?” She then repeats the vow in Russian for him.

Val nods, smiling. “Of course! I like be hero! I can set aside rivalries!”

Evelyn nods and taps her Stars’ symbol on her waist and just like Jonathan, her white angelic wings sprout from her back. Val retrieves his quiver of arrows, strapping it on. Then he opens up the black case and takes out the recurve bow.

“Hockey Avengers, Assemble!” Evelyn shouts.

Jamie blinks and his eyes turn into the brilliant emerald green. Tyler flips a pair of black handguns in his hands. Patrick spins his hockey stick around twice and then slashes it in a downward motion. Jonathan flaps his wings behind him and lets out a loud hawk screech. And finally, Val gives a sharp flick of his arm and opens the bow up. He then draws an arrow from his quiver and notches it in the bow.

Evelyn looks to Sidney. “Impressed?”

“I’m not depressed...let’s see what they all got!” Sidney states. “I’d like to see the archer square off with the blond.”

Patrick looks over at Val, who blinks and looks back. They hold a steady gaze, before nodding and turning back. “You’re on Sid!” (well, Val says something more like, “You on, Sid!”) they both exclaim and walk forward. Sidney clasps his hands and moves out of the way as the two walk forward. Patrick turns and faces Val.

“Codename, Patrick?” Sidney asks.

“Showtime.”

“Codename, Val?” Sidney repeats the question.

“Arrow Hawk.”

Sidney looks at them both. “Showtime, Arrow Hawk, may the battle commence. Please do not kill each other. This is simply for me to get an understanding for where we are.” Both nod at him. “Alright, fight!”

Patrick begins to twirl his hockey stick around in his hands. He narrows his eyes at Val, who raises his bow up. He lets an arrow fly at Patrick. Patrick makes a rapid slashing move and slices the arrow in half, stopping it magnificently. Patrick’s eyes flash with a fiery blue and he launches at Val, swinging his stick at him.

“Go Kaner!” Jonathan cheers. “You got this baby!”

“Go Val!” Jamie and Tyler cheer.

Val blocks the blow with his bow and whirls around, bringing his leg out and taking Patrick’s legs out. Then he elbows Patrick in the chest, sending the Blackhawk stumbling backward. Patrick whips his sword around and attempts to catch Val’s head, but the Russian Star winger dodges it. Val does an impressive backflip and notches another arrow into his bow in the process. He lands on the ground and lets the arrow fly at the blond Blackhawk.

Patrick manages to block it, sending the arrow shooting at the ceiling.

“Alright! That’s good enough!” Sidney calls as Patrick charges at Val, ready to spear him with his hockey stick.

The Blackhawk skids to a halt and they both relax and return to the side, chatting with one another.

“That cool what you do with hockey stick!” Val remarks.

“Impressive archery skills there, Russian. I’d have never known you had that skill. I’m rather shocked.” Patrick pats him on the back and sends him a wink. He returns to Jonathan’s side.

The brunette puts and arm around his shoulders. “You looked so hot out there, Peeks. I love this...Showtime!”

“Thanks Jonny!”

Before Sidney can call out another battle pairing, Kelly Mackinnon skids in.

“Whoa! What’s going on here?” Kelly asks, spotting the five hockey heroes.

Tyler combs his hair out and leans over to Jamie. “Psst, Jamie, you have a mirror or your phone on you?”

Jamie looks at him with an amused face. “Really Tyler?” He shakes his head at his teammate.

Evelyn whispers something to Sidney and then walks over to Kelly. She guides her to the side, as Sidney calls out “Captain Blackhawk and Star Vision!” Evelyn faces Kelly.

“What is going on here Evelyn? Why are there five hockey players here?” Kelly asks. “Are they all heroes?” She looks at them, stunned.

“Kelly, these are the Hockey Avengers, I’m their leader. Apparently one thing led to the next. Tyler was secretly training to be a spy with Sidney and then kept it from Jamie, who turned out to possess...well…” Evelyn spins around as Jamie blasts starry green energy at Jonathan, who dodges it and gives a hawk screech before emitting a tiny puff of fire from his mouth. “Star Vision…”

“Cool, like the dude from X-Men?!” Kelly exclaims.

“Yeah, but somehow cooler…” Evelyn spins back to her. “And then Patrick was injected with some kind of steroids which allows him to handle sticks, hockey sticks and swords like he’s some expert weapons fighter!”

“Like the guy from--?”

“Yeah! Kelly!” Evelyn exclaims, cutting her off. “So, Star Vision and Captain Blackhawk - or CB as I like to call him cause it’s easier off my tongue, you know - and then there’s Arrow Hawk, Scorpion and Showtime!”

“Sick! And you call yourselves the Hockey Avengers?”

“Yup. The original six.”

“Original Six? Like how hockey in the NHL started out?” Kelly questions, mesmerized by the news.

“Yup! Well, not exactly how is started...but yeah.” Evelyn turns, putting an arm around her friend. “I wonder how many hockey players out there have powers though...or heroic skills?”

Kelly looks at her. “Too many, Eve, too many. But not Tara. Tara’s a mortal!”

Evelyn snaps her head to look at her. “Oh yeah! How are things going with you two? Hawkley told me you resurrected him from total death and then went on a date!”

Kelly giggles. “Tara’s the best! I love him! He’s so kind, considerate and understanding!” She pulls her phone out and taps on the screen. She shows Evelyn some pictures of her and Vladimir Tarasenko on the date.

“You two make a lovely couple! I’m happy for you Kelly. I really am!”

They hang to the side and watch everyone rotate through battles: Val and Tyler, Val and Jonathan, Val and Jamie, Jamie and Patrick...and so on.
