Arrow Hawk: Birth of the Hockey Avengers

Brad Hawkley’s Mission: Quick Save

Late May 2015

The remainder of the hockey season passes by. A lot has happened, including the fact that Nikita Zadorov agrees to help the heroes out but wants to remain ‘off the charts’ so to say. The Stars and Blackhawks make it to the playoffs but unfortunately both are out in the second round. The Stars get beat by the San Jose Sharks and the Blackhawks lose in a controversial game seven to the Nashville Predators. Thanks to the losses, the superstar heroes make it to Boston.

Hawkley has been hard at work and after months of hard work and surprisingly fast building skills, the new headquarters is up and running. The six heroes enter the new complex, greeted by Hawkley and Sidney.

Thanks to the Penguins not making the playoffs for a second year in a row, Sidney is able to help out and has been helping Hawkley out with finishing up the building and layout of the new place.

“Welcome Hockey Avengers. Welcome to H.A.T.T.Y,” Sidney remarks. “I came up with the name. I figured the headquarters should have a cool name and, well, the acronym stands for Hockey’s Avenging, Talented, Troublesome Youth.”

“Wow, I like it. Good work Sid.”

“And the place is equipped with a powerful computer system, taken from my old supercomputer...and enhanced! It’s great for defense, detection and protection. Sidney, again, came up with the name, “The Pest”. In fact right now, it is working, cloaking the place invisible to the mortal eye. We are perfectly safe and hidden.” Hawkley holds his head high as though he is super proud of this.

“Good work Hawkley,” Evelyn remarks.

“So only other heroes can see the place?” Tyler questions, putting his hands on his hips. “What about villains?”

“No one. If any of you were outside right now, you’d see nothing. Luckily you all know where it is though, because the Pest and I make it available to you. There’s three controllers that can be set: one is to cloak it completely which is what it is set at right now, a second is to cloak it invisible to only mortals - so superheroes and villains can see it during that setting and the third is to make the building visible to all, including mortals. It will rarely be set at that though unless a disaster occurs.”

“Like Armageddon?” Tyler remarks.

“Uh, yeah...apart from the new headquarters, Sidney, Kelly and I have also created a few items you’ll enjoy. Follow us,” Hawkley instructs.

The six heroes follow him. They walk down a plain white walled hallway, which is actually lit up in blue neon lighting and into the new laboratory, which is a few feet longer than the old one but still similar in appearance. They gather inside and Hawkley picks up a small ten inch long silver metal stick.

“Patrick Kane,” Hawkley exclaims as he holds the stick out before him and the ends of it extend outward into a hockey stick. “You’re new hockey stick weapon. Not only can you use it as a hockey stick, but it can also transform into a long walking stick or a sword.” He displays each form for Patrick and the others.

“How are you doing that?” Patrick asks, confounded. He pads away from Jonathan and comes up to Hawkley.

The boss removes his hand from the top, where he is gripping it. There are a series of five motion detection buttons on the side. One is labeled with a hockey stick, one is green, symbolizing an ‘on’ button, used to trigger the stick, one is red for turning is ‘off’ and returning it to normal, one is for a normal karate or walking stick and the last one is for a sword.

“Whoa! That’s awesome!” Patrick remarks as he takes it from Hawkley.

“And the metallic structure will allow the weapon to remain in tact and take any kind and give any kind of abuse you meet. But you cannot use this on the ice.”

“Understood. Thanks Hawkley. This is awesome!” Patrick exclaims.

“Showtime, Patrick.” Hawkley winks at him and passes him a carrying holster for it.

Patrick grabs it and walks back to Jonathan. Hawkley grabs up a pair of star-shaped goggles now.

“Jamie Benn,” Hawkley now exclaims. “These are for you.”

Jamie steps forward. He takes the eye wear from the man and puts them on. “What do I do?”

“Nothing. These are designed specifically to channel the beam and while you can still zap people, it won’t hurt them. At least not seriously. However it is also designed so that is can be harmful to a robot...so in other words, it won’t hurt a human, but can hurt a robot.”

“Cool, thanks.” Jamie whirls around and focuses on Tyler, sending a concentrated starry beam at him. It hits Tyler, who yelps and throws his arms around Evelyn. “Sweet!”

“Jamison Randolph Benn!” Tyler scolds, his voice high-pitched.

Evelyn sighs and shoves him off of her. “Man up, Tyler. Did it hurt?”

Tyler pauses and looks at her and then at Jamie. He shakes his head. “No, it didn’t. But still, that wasn’t cool. Warn me first!” He folds his arms and frowns at Jamie, who laughs and walks back over. Jamie elbows Tyler in the shoulder and eventually Tyler breaks his anger. “Screw you Jamie!”

Hawkley clasps his hands together and looks to Sidney. Sidney takes over now. He walks forward and stands, facing the gathered group of heroes.

“Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Patrick Kane, you all needed outfits, right?” Sidney asks.

“Well, just Tyler and Jamie, not so much Patrick, he can wear whatever, like Jonny,” Zvezda corrects.

“Well, Tyler’s outfit is ready. And Jamie, a simple outfit is fine for you, like Patrick then. Kelly and I tossed around some ideas for your spy outfit and we settled on one that I think you’ll like and that will also be unique. Too many male spies have the whole suit and tie thing, which is great and fine, however, not for you.”

Tyler blinks. “Okay.”

“We’re thinking something similar to Val’s look...but more spy...so,” Sidney states as he points into the air and magically brings up the image of the outfit. “This is what we got.” Tyler finds himself looking at a long-sleeved, skin-tight black catsuit.

“So...the catsuit look means…” Tyler questions, raising an eyebrow.

“It’s a male catsuit. You can thank Kelly for saying this but she says that the outfit will attract women…”

Tyler blinks and smirks. “Really?”

“Yeah. She said and I quote ‘Tyler will look like a total stud in this’. Her words.”

Tyler grins. “I know that was you Sid. Not her.”

“It was her words,” Sidney snaps back. “I swear!” His voice cracks. “I’m not in love with you Tyler. I’m a perfectly straight human being. Anyway, this outfit is designed to give you the ability to be a super spy. As you can see on the picture, there are multiple hidden pockets, where you can carry state-of-the-art versions of gear and weapons used by top modern spies, including stunners, tear-gas, a cable and a transmitter.”

Tyler nods. “Not bad.”

“And yes, the zappers are included as well. Kelly and I also made sure that you have something called a ‘Scorpion’s Line’ which is a grappling hook and a retractable line that will allow you to quickly travel across rooftops and from building to building.” Sidney pauses and then smiles and points to the outfit’s wrist, where there is some kind of special wristband. “This is going to be the best feature...this is called a ‘Scorpion’s Sting’, which are a series of wrist cartridges that can emit a potent and powerful electric blast with a maximum power of around 30,000 volts. Impressed now?”

Tyler’s mouth is open and he gawks at the outfit, impressed. “Nice work and thanks for the kind words there Sid.”

Sidney waves at the air and the image dissolves. “By the way, that’s an enhancement thanks to the Pest!”

Hawkley comes forward once more. “Alright, so now that that is all squared away, the Pest has discovered some disturbance happening in Downtown Chicago! This is the real deal boys and Zveda, it’s time for the world to know about the Hockey Avengers and to save it!”

“You can count on us!” Tyler exclaims.

They all cheer in agreement and exit the lab. One by one they put on their new outfits: Arrow Hawk in his vest, black pants and boots, Zvezda in her victory green dress, Captain Blackhawk in his black jacket and jeans, Showtime in his blue dress shirt and jeans, Star Vision in his black pants and white dress shirt, and Scorpion in his black catsuit. Then they meet up in the lobby with Hawkley.

“God this is amazing!” Tyler states. “It’s so comfortable and you were right Sid, I’m hot.”

“Don’t flatter yourself Seggy,” Jamie chuckles.

Hawkley faces them. “Alright, here’s the scoop, some dude named Quick Save is wrecking havok in Downtown Chicago. I want Scorpion, Star Vision, Zvezda and Arrow Hawk to take care of him. If you’re needed, Captain and Showtime, I want you to be close. Pick a close spot.”

“Can do Hawkley, I know just the place!” Captain Blackhawk remarks.

“Then, Hockey Avengers, Assemble and go forth!” Hawkley exclaims.

Zvezda leads the group out of ‘H.A.T.T.Y’ and the teams split up. Captain Blackhawk scoops Patrick up and flies off with him. Zvezda meanwhile looks at the three Dallas Stars heroes.

“I can’t exactly carry three of you…”
