A Second Chance at Love

Might As Well Be the North Pole

A few weeks later and things were still going well. We were a week away from Christmas and Raina was a lunatic. My family was coming down from Canada for the holiday. Raina had never met them so she insisted this had to be perfect. Not to mention she was shopping for four kids, god knows how many extended family members and countless hockey players.

We were in full swing with the season, as were the boys. She did a lot of shuffling to get the boys were they needed to be. I really admired her. The woman had the energy of ten kids. She showed up today about thirty minutes into my practice with all four boys. She looked adorable.

The jogging suit she had on showed her growing belly. She was only three months pregnant, but it was obvious they were growing inside of her. She walked towards the bleachers and sat down, a few of the fans saying hi to her. They really adored her, she sat and talked hockey with them like any fan would, and I was always signing something for the cutest little boy or girl she met.

"Ahh here goes preggos" Mike hollered as he skated by. Them two had developed a great friendship. Everything was perfect. Jeff''s wife Pam turned out to be the sweetest girl, and her fiery Irish attitude kept his ass in check. Her and Raina would talk for hours upon end when we were away. It was like their way to cope with being lonely.

I shifted my attention back to practice. Once we were finished, she waited around for me to shower. I had to laugh when I emerged, her and Kris were sitting on a chair, him fully engrossed in a conversation with her tummy. "Can you stop corrupting my babies before they are born." I shouted coming down the hall. He just laughed and continued on.

She greeted me with a kiss and a list of things we needed to do before I left for Calgary tomorrow. Thank God I would be back on the twenty-third. She was promising to lose her mind by then. She had poor Claude running around half of yesterday looking for a video game for Cam because she couldn't fail at her first family Christmas together. And that idiot did it, she fed him too well.

After a few hours of food shopping and gift shopping, we were headed home. The boys were in the back half asleep. Even poor Caelan looked like he played three games in a row. We got home put the stuff away and ushered the boys to bed. Claude was in New York picking Megan up. She was taking the trip to Calgary with us, then visiting some family up there before rejoining us for Christmas.

I pulled Raina up the steps, eager to spend our last night together in bed. I loved the feel of her growing baby bump against my skin. It was a constant reminder how much in love with her I was. She was running her hand up and down my chest, kissing me hard. She knew I didn't stand a chance against her, never have, never will.

We ended up falling asleep, her head on my chest, The alarm went off at six o'clock and I sighed. Carson and Ryan both had games. We were up, dressed and out the door thirty minutes later. I made sure my bags were packed for later before I left.

We spent time watching both games and had a blast. Our boys were skilled at hockey, that is for sure. They worked hard and played hard, every day. We were talking about the upcoming ultrasound the day after the Winter Classic. We had randomly decided that we would have the ultrasound tech write the sex of each baby in an envelope. She would get one, I would get the other. We would pick out a name and godparents, which wouldn't be revealed until the day she delivered.

Soon enough the games were over and I was getting ready to leave for the airport. She put her arms around me and held me tight. Sylvie had just picked up the boys and her and Ryan were going to stay at my house. They had basically moved in anyway. She gave me a soft kiss. "I love you, gonna miss u terrible. Win those two games for me ok?"

I walked out the door, my heart breaking because I had to leave her so sad. I knew we wouldn't be gone too long though. We would have a great time during Christmas, New Years and the Winter Classic.
