A Second Chance at Love

The next day I woke up with a permanent smile etched on my face. We just laid in bed for hours last night, his arms wrapped around me. I was really surprised when he proposed. I thought maybe once the twins were born it would happen, but I never would have guessed it would have now. I was happier than I have been in a long time.

I decided to call and make up with Max. I hadn’t spoken to him since that night at the bar. I picked up my cell and dialed his number. “Maxime, how are you? I missed you.“ I said and he began babbling.

“Merdi, I didn’t think I would be hearing from you anytime soon. So how come you didn’t call me and tell me you were having little hockey spawns?” I immediately panicked.

“Max, I just found out two days ago. I got in a car accident and they did some blood work and told me. I didn’t know I was having twins until they did an ultrasound. I though poor Richie was going to pass out. “ He laughed.

"Well I guess you didn’t see the back page of the Daily News. They ran a picture of you and Danny leaving the hospital. Someone from the hospital was quoted anonymously saying that you two were having twins.“ I was getting a headache just thinking about it. I knew Caelan would have probably heard already.

“Max, let me call you back. I gotta get Danny up. I let him sleep late, he has practice at twelve. “

I hung up the phone and almost ran into Claude coming in the front door. “Uhh Rainy, did you see the newspaper yet?” I just shook my head. I ran up the steps and woke Danny up.

He was a little upset, but calm. “I’ll go get Caelan from school and bring him back here to talk. We can talk to the others after school. Can you call and ask the principal to let their teachers know what’s going on. ” He said getting dressed.

“Don’t look so stressed Raina, it’s not the end of the world. We didn’t do anything wrong. Its good news. I’m just mad they didn’t ask us to confirm it instead of running with it. We would have been able to tell the boys before it being leaked out.” Claude just shook his head.

He came back within thirty minutes. Caelan ran in and straight to me. He gave me a big hug, “take care of them Rainy”.

I couldn’t help it. I cried. He was smiling and happy. I breathed a small sigh of relief. Danny put his arm around me.

“Listen Caelan, we have something else to tell you. Raina and I got engaged last night. We were planning a big dinner for tonight to tell you guys but someone from the hospital beat us to it, which is how the paper found out.” Caelan gave his dad a hug. For his age the kid was so mature. It made me love him even more. “Listen, we have practice in an hour. Let’s all go. Come on my family”, he said putting his arms around me and Caelan.

We got to the rink. It was an open practice but there wasn't many fans there since it was during the week. Kris came up and hugged me, the patted my tummy.

“Hi baby Brieres” he cooed and skated away. I just laughed at him. I walked over to the snack stand and grabbed a bottle of water. The lady waiting on me smiled at me and asked me how far along I was. We talked for a few minutes and I headed back inside the rink.

Mike skated over towards me and immediately looked down at my hand. “I knew he couldn’t wait” he yelled through the glass. Once the guys were done practicing, Lavy called them all to center ice.

“Apparently, two of your teammates have good news to share. Danny?” Danny was so freaking adorable. He had the biggest smile on his face announcing we were engaged.

Jeff spoke up next. “Well, I’m off the market guys, who wants my lil black book. Pam and I got married over the weekend.” Everyone was surprised, hell Carcillo was so stunned he slipped and ended up on his behind.

“Well it looks like my little boys are growing up”, Lavy said laughing and called Danny, Jeff and I to meet him in his office.

“So how do you want to announce this Jeff? Danny- I believe you guys just need to confirm yours. I called the writer this morning and gave him hell. He apologized if that
If it is any consolation…. And Raina before I forget, please have them on an off day” I laughed.

“I’ll try coach.”

“Listen Raina, I’m going to grab the guy that normally covers practice and we can just confirm it real quick.” Danny said smiling. I was fine with that.

Within five minutes, Danny, Caelan and I were sitting together on the bleachers being filmed. “So Danny, we hear the Briere bunch is growing?”

Danny smiled, “Yeah, my fiancée Raina and I just found out a few days ago that we are expecting twins in June.”

He asked Caelan what he hoped I had. “I hope boys, I don’t think we would know what to do if they had a little girl.”

“Raina, how are you feeling?” he pointed the microphone towards me.

“I feel good right now.“ I said, blushing. It was too much attention for me.

We finished up and headed home. I was anxious, I hoped the little guys didn’t know yet and that they would be happy.
