A Second Chance at Love

The plane ride home seemed to take forever. We were flying in from Dallas, yet it felt like we were coming from New Zealand. We had a good road trip, winning 5 of 6 and setting up ourselves atop the Eastern Conference with a nice lead. It was freezing out as we departed the airport. I was in a rush to see her, but had to pick up the boys. Almost all of my teammates decided they were at some point tonight going to stop by, so I sent Claude for food while I headed to Sylvie's.

The boys were excited to be going home. I explained to them that Raina wasn't allowed to get up and run around at all. They seemed a little worried, but I assured them her and their siblings were ok. We pulled up to the house and the kids darted inside.

The chorus of squeals meant she was in the living room. I walked over to the couch where she was laying and gave her a long kiss. "I missed you so much." she said looking up at me with a grin.

"Well, we got some time to make up then, eh." She grinned. The boys were hammering here with play by play of their time away and she was listening genuinely. It made me smile, knowing she really did care about everything in my life.

I sent the boys to go play before dinner. "So you know you are gonna get a ton of company tonight." She smiled and kissed my forehead.

"That's fine with me. It has been me, Megan, Danielle and Ryan all week together, They actually are at the store getting some stuff."

Before I couldn't even cuddle up next to her, the doorbell rang. I groaned knowing we wouldn't get to spend time alone for a few hours. Kris came barreling in the door followed by Carcillo. "We got presents luvy" Kris hollered as he dumped a bag full of snacks and gossip magazines. He promptly sat down next to her and spoke to her stomach. "Unc is here kiddos. No coming out early. We need you to stay in their until you are big and strong like your daddy." I burst out laughing he looked so serious.

Claude came in and the girls and Ryan followed a few minutes later. The doorbell rang and Mike and Jeff came in. More presents were opened. Raina had more books and video games than she knew what do do with. I was in the kitchen and heard the start of "Eye of the Tiger" for the fifteenth time. "Raina, I swear if you let Kris sing that one more time."

She giggled. "Sorry baby, only song I can play on the guitar." I made her a cup of tea and sat down. She put her head on my lap and relinquished the guitar to Jeff. Megan and Claude were making an extreme amount of noise upstairs, making me happy the boys were outside. Raina just groaned and leaned up and kissed me. "We so will have time to make up for once these kids are born."

Finally everyone left and the boys were showered and in bed. I was exhausted. I helped her up to bed and climbed in next to her. I held her tight and we just laid and talked. She admitted she was scared about having the twins early.

"Raina, we just gotta be careful. What did the doctor say when you called him?"

She let me know he thought everything was going well and that she was on target to deliver them around 36-37 weeks via c-section. She had Ryan by emergency c-section and the doctor preferred her to follow suit with the twins.

"So when is he looking at?" I asked, trying to figure out when we would be playing.

"It looks like sometime in the second half of May I would assume. It wasn't perfect, but if we could schedule it in between series or at least when I was at home for a few days, it would work. I planned on my team to be still playing at that point, probably in the Eastern Conference Finals. I just hoped her body would allow her to wait that long.
