You Make Me Want To

01: Why Ya Wanna

Addie sat at the bar, sipping from her champagne glass. It was her last night home and she had to go to one of her parents' stupid events. This was her last night to party with all her old friends, but instead, she was sitting in one of the most obnoxious clubs in Toronto. She had been able to take a week off of school due to who she was, basically. She was given extensions to her assignments all by the batt of her eyelashes.

Addie wasn't one to use her luxury to her advantage. Sure, she didn't complain about having a little extra money here and there, but she definitely wasn't a brat. She was spoiled like you wouldn't believe, but she was grateful for it all. She had enough of the spoiling though, that's why she had moved. She took her cat, dog, and best friend, and hopped ship to Dallas, Texas. Why Dallas?

Well, it was about as far from home as she could get without her parents losing it. It was also where her father had just added another base for his company. She wouldn't go into the boring details of what her father did to make himself one of the top five wealthiest men in Toronto. But it worked for him. Now, she was in charge at his new base in Dallas.

She was pulled away from her thoughts as her mother came over to her. Addie and her mom, Diane, got along. Sometimes. Diane was from a whole different world compared to Addie. Diane was all about using her status while Addie didn't care for it. If people knew, it was fine. If they didn't, even better. She lifted her glass to her mouth as her mother rambled on. She smoothed her dress.

"Oh, God, Addison! Why is Paisley wearing a short dress? This is a formal event!" Diane cried.

Addie clenched her jaw at her mother. "Relax, mom. She looks fine. She's formal enough." She sighed.

Why was her mother insulting her best friend? Who knew. Diane had pleaded Addie into bringing Paisley so she wouldn't have to mope all night. Paisley was off having the time of her life and Addie was still moping.

Diane clicked her tongue. "There's a sports team coming tonight." She mentioned, snapping to remember the name. "I don't think it's the Raptors."

"Considering they're in Sacramento, probably not." Addie stated.

"You know the teams! Which is home?" Diane asked. "Is it the Blue Jays?"

"Mom, it's not even baseball season." Addie exhaled, resting her fingertips against her face.

"What is the name of the hockey team? Not the small one, the big one." Diane waved her hand as she went on.

"The Maple Leafs?" Addie suggested.

"The Maple Leafs! I knew I'd get it!" Diane grinned.

"Mom, I,"

"They'll be arriving shortly with their opponent." She finished. "Make a good impression. Marry one." She winked, walking off.

"No thanks." Addie mumbled before finishing her champagne.

She decided to check who was in town tonight playing the Leafs. She was sidetracked by her notifications for a bit. She remembered the task at hand and opened her NHL app.

"Addison!" Her father's voice boomed and she jumped, locking her phone. "Meet this wonderful man."

A guy, probably the same age as Addie stood in front of her. Her dad had a hand on the guy's shoulder. He was wearing a suit and had a grin. He was blonde with bright blue eyes. He was tall too. He had a mole on his face. He was cute, but not really her type. She smiled, standing up and extending her hand.

"Pleasure to meet you. I'm Morgan." He introduced as he shook her hand.

"The pleasure is all mine." Addie purred. She did this everyday. "I'm Addison, or Addie."

"Why don't you two get acquainted?" Her dad chimed before walking off.

"So how was your game?" Addie dropped the act.

"Not bad, five to three win." Morgan shrugged before ordering a drink.

"How did you play?" She challenged

"I did alright. Was a plus one." He stated as he drank his Jack.

"Not hard to maintain when your team scores five goals." She smirked. "Jack Daniels? Impressive for a hockey player. Usually they just drink beer."

"I'm a Leaf. It takes more than beer to drown my sorrows." He laughed.

Addie did too until she heard gasps and a commotion. She looked over and saw her ex boyfriend walking in with his teammates trailing behind him. That's what team was in town tonight. She let out a long growl, squeezing her eyes shut before she turned back to Morgan. He was watching highlights on the flat screen above the bar. He looked to her.

"It's been really great talking but I have to go deal with whatever is going on over there." She exhaled, gesturing her hand to the direction of the problem with her eyes shut. "Here's my number." She said, grabbing a napkin and pulling a pen from her bra. "Call me if you ever need someone to chirp you about your team. I'd offer you a date but I'm back in Dallas tomorrow."

He shook his head. "It's fine. I'll definitely call if I need someone to hate my team with me." He smiled.

She waved as she walked over. She turned to face forward and speed walked the rest of the way. She found her ex with no problem. Girls were swooning over him. She pushed through, well aware that people were only letting her through because her family was hosting the event. She grabbed his arm. He spun around and gave her a warm smile.

"I need to talk to you." She said, her teeth gritted.

He nodded, following her away. "Did you miss me?" He chuckled as they found a secluded area. "Are you bringing me here to take advantage of me? Because it's not taking advantage if I let you." He danced a bit.

She furrowed her brows. "What? No. Are you drunk?" She questioned, leaning forward to smell his breath. It was minty.

"No. I just had a game. Your mom invited me so I brought my team." He explained.

"You realize the team you just lost to is here too, right?" She snapped.

"We aren't gonna have a turf war in the middle of your parents' party, Adds. It's okay." He shook his head. "Always such a stress head."

"Always such a dick head." She shot back.

He smiled. "I get you're trying to put up a front because I'm your ex, but there's such thing as remaining friends after a breakup." He suggested.

"Fuck off, Tyler. You cheated on me. While I was down go visit you!" She reminded him.

"Woah, woah, woah," He shook his hands and head. "You were all mad because I took a photo with some girl, so you told me to never talk to you again." He corrected.

"And then I called you all night and you were too busy with said girl to answer." She crossed her arms.

"I was eighteen and it was my draft year. Let me live. I'm a different man, Addie." He threw his arms out. She rolled her eyes. "Come on, friends?" He extended his hand to hers.

She crossed her arms, chewing on her lips. He had the same smile she remembered. Tyler was such a handsome guy. She said handsome over devastatingly sexy because they were at a formal event and he was her ex. She sighed, unfolding her arms. She extended her hand.

"Friends." She agreed, shaking his hand.

"Perfect. Now let's go introduce you to my new teammates." He said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and guiding her over to them.
