Chapter 2
Okay, so the whole fighting thing didn't go that well. I tried to forecheck Sutter, but he dodged me and I hit my head on the boards. It was a huge bump. Then it was time for the first game of the series. The Pittsburgh Penguins vs. The New York Islanders. I put my dress on( http://fiftieswedding.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Untold-strapless-dress.jpeg ) and threw on my matching heels. I let my naturally curly hair flow down my back. Then I put my hockey bag over my shoulder and held my stick in my hand.
I drove over to the arena and walked into the locker room. Everyone stared at me. I heard some of the guys whistle. I blushed and rolled my eyes. "You look beautiful,"James Neal whispered as I placed my bag down. I said,"Thanks." It felt weird taking off my dress while everyone was watching. I mean, I was only in my under garments. I quickly put on all my equipment and stretched on the floor. Sid sat down next to me and said,"Hey Ella. You ready for the game?" I said,"Ready as I'll ever be." "That's good. Well, good luck,"Sid said. I smiled and said,"Thanks. You too."
Dan told us a few strategies. Then we went out. As I stepped onto the ice, everyone stopped cheering and stared at me. I smiled and skated around the ice. Then everyone started cheering again when Crosby came out. We shot pucks at the net. I saw some of the Islanders staring at me. I smiled and waved. Then I shot pucks at net with everyone else. I stretched a little bit. Then the game started. I was at the bench for the first few shifts. Dan said,"Alright. You're on Ella. Good luck." I smiled and jumped over the boards.
I skated over to the loose puck and passed it to Sid. He shoots, HE SCORES! The arena burst. We did the huddle. "Good job Ella,"Sid said. I smiled and said,"Great goal." I looked up at the jumbotron. Only 12 minutes left. We got off the ice and sat on the bench. A few minutes later, we were back on the ice. I passed to Evgeni Malkin. He scored! After the first period, we were winning 2-0. We went to the locker room. People stuffed their cameras in my face and shouted questions. I nervously stood there. Sid shouted,"Everybody, back it up!"
Everyone did as he said. "Thanks Sid!"I called. "No problem!"he shouted back. I looked down as someone asked,"Is he your boyfriend?" "No!"I exclaimed with a laugh. "How's it like being in a boys' locker room?"someone asked. I said,"It's really awkward changing in front of 30 men." "How was the first period?"someone asked. I said,"Finally! A real question. Well, obviously, I had a great time. The Islanders are pretty tough right now, so we're happy to have the upper hand in this period."
"Come here Ella!"Sid shouted. "Thanks guys,"I said before hobbling over to Sid in my skates. The team cheered as I walked into the locker room. I laughed and said,"Thanks." "Great job Ella,"Coach said. I smiled and said,"Thank you." "Were you comfortable out there?"he asked. I said,"Duh! I felt amazing skating out there." "If you play like you just did, we're going to dominate these playoffs,"Joe Vitale said. I shrugged and said,"I can't get too comfortable. I have to keep going like it's my first." "Okay, now lets plan out this second period,"Coach said. We all crowded around the whiteboard.
The second period started. Everyone burst into applause when I came out. I couldn't help but giggle. I took the face off and won it. The Islanders scored with 12 minutes left. The third period happened and it turned out to go to OT with the scored tied at 2-2. Sid passed to me. I passed to Letang. He passed back to me. Right when it hit my stick, I snapped my wrist and scored. Everyone cheered. I looked around. I can't believe it. We won! I scored. Everyone huddled. I laughed. I was the first star that night. I went into the locker room and everyone started complimenting me. I laughed and beamed.
Interviewers came up to me. "How was the game for you?"someone asked. I said,"It was great. I just had so much energy and just tried to get the puck to a teammate or to the net. I had a lot of tries before I actually scored in OT." A girl asked,"Do you think you can beat the Islanders in the first round?" I said,"You can't get too comfortable after winning a game. I'm positive though and know we can do it. We just all really want it so badly." Someone asked,"Dan Bylsma said you're one of the players everyone should look out for. What do you think about that?" I laughed and said,"I guess that's true. It's really nice of him though."
