My Skies Are Turning Black

3

"Yeah. Sidney." I replied. I took a deep breath and attempted to still my racing nerves. I was just as scared as she was, but I attempted not to show it.

"Did...did you come back?...for me?" She spoke slowly with a slight quiver in her delicate voice. I nodded.

"Yeah...I did. I couldn't just let you...well, die here. But that's not important. I'm gonna help you get out. But your gonna have to try to push your way out of there. I'll help you." She shook her head and gripped my hand tighter.

I looked at the face of the man who had came back into a fucking burning airplane just to save me. And I didn't even know him. And then I remembered, he was that guy who was signing things for all those kids. Sidney, was his name. I gripped his hand tighter as he asked me to try and push my way out from under the wreckage. I shook my head. "No. I can't. I really can't i'm really scared." I replied hastily. I felt annoyed that I couldn't make an effort to save myself but my body just wouldn't listen.

"Look, I'm here, okay? Your gonna have to at least try. C'mon. Please?" He begged. I looked over at the flames, that were getting closer by the second. It wouldn't be long before they reached us and we'd have no way to get out. I closed my eyes, and focused. Okay, I could do this. I looked up at him.

"You didn't tell me your name yet." He asked with a smile.

"Harley."

"Harley. That's a very nice name, really unique and pretty." He replied. His voice had a soothing aspect to it, that made everything happening right now feel not as bad as it actually was. "Okay, Harley. I'm gonna hold your hand and help pull you out from under there. You ready?" I nodded my head and gripped his hand tightly. As I was being pulled out from under the wreckage, I could feel the pain fading from my chest, and I regained the ability to take deep breaths again. I sat up in the aisle and looked around, still gripping his hand, trying to make sense of what exactly happened. I still didn't remember anything clearly. He took my hand and began leading me towards an exit.

A sudden wave of nausea hit me hard. The smoke and the heat in the aircraft suddenly felt like they were burning me. "Sidney...I don't feel too good." I mumbled as I stumbled through the wreckage, following him blindly. He turned to look at me.

"Harley we're almost there. Hang in there." I managed to make out his words from the ringing in my ears. The dizziness was getting worse as I could barely walk and I could barely see. But somehow, I managed to make it to the exit with him. Barely fucking alive, is how I felt by the time we got to the exit. I could tell by the heat giving way to a cooling, refreshing sensation, and the smell of fresh air. And then I blacked out.

I stood outside the plane exit holding Harley's hand, when she collapsed. Three paramedics rushed over to us and two began to lay Harley down on a stretcher and the other helped me to a ambulance.

The ride to the hospital wasn't long, maybe 10 minutes or so. But it had felt like eternity. As I lay in my hospital bed, unable to move from the pain, I relived the events in my head. Suddenly now everything was becoming ever so clear to me.

About 10 minutes after the emergency landing announcement, was when the crash happened. The plane suddenly descended a couple hundred feet, and then proceeded to go into a nose dive. I was forced to pull myself back into my seat and grip the arm rests to prevent being thrown forward despite my seatbelt. The next few moments were pure and utter chaos. Passengers loose personal belongings were strewn about the aircraft as it descended remarkably fast towards the ground. There was no sound. At all. Amazingly, no one said a word as we plunged closer to our demise. There was no sound from the aircraft either. Maybe because everything happened in the blink of an eye. And then we hit the ground. The impact hit me in a sudden wave that slowly washed over me. It felt as if every particle of air in the plane had just exploded. My breath caught in my throat. All around me was the sound of the metal of the plane grinding and screeching as it skid from side to side, having lost all balance. The smoke began to rise, and flames engulfed the exterior of the aircraft. It took the plane a good while to stop skidding along the ground until it abruptly stopped, mere inches from the end of the runway. I held my breath until the hell ride ended and gave way to a deafening silence. I slowly opened my eyes, and took in the disturbing wreckage that was now flight 683.

There was a knock on the door, and a middle aged doctor walked in. "Hello, Sidney. My name is Doctor Redwood. He sighed, and took a seat next to my bed. Now, in the crash you seemed to have broken three of your ribs, sprained your knee, and fractured your wrist. You also suffered some impact to your jaw, but it should be fine. I gave you some painkillers in the meantime to help dull the pain. And if you were wondering, you are in a hospital in Maine, right now. Anyways, you will need a lot of rest. And is there anything you may need?"

I hesitated for a bit, then replied. "Yeah, actually, i'd like to know about another passenger. Her name is Harley. Could you please find out where she is and how shes doing, for me? Please?" The doctor looked up at me from his notes.

"Harley. Yes I just got back from treating a girl named Harley. However, may I warn you, her situation is not okay." He suddenly had a tone of worry.

"Not okay...? But she will be okay, right?"

Doctor Redwood sighed. "It's too early to tell. We do not know if she may or may not make it. She has a very, very big, life risking complication. There's been a very large amount of blood loss. She also suffered a severe injury. And as for the complication, well..." He shuffled through his papers and held one out to me. "Sidney, you could take a look for yourself." Slowly, I extended my arm and took the paper into my hands. There was her medical report and stapled to the bottom right corner of the paper, was what caused my heart to drop. I couldn't take in what I saw on the image with her name, Harley Kenway in the top left corner.
