It's a Girl's Game

Chapter 16

“There were four Oilers back and none of them could get in front of Jokinen!”
What this announcer is talking about is the goal Jamie Jokinen just scored against the Edmonton Oilers. The goal made it 2-0 in the penguins favor. Now this wasn’t the first goal Jamie scored like that; in the 2014 Worlds against Russia.
“Jay! Jay!” Hornqvist shouted as they entered the Oilers zone. While the pass didn’t connect it killed a little more time.
“And that is how you win a hockey game boys!” Jamie yelled as the horn sounded. Now this probably wasn’t the best thing to yell in opponent’s arena, but Jamie Jokinen is known for saying things that could and will get her in trouble. She got some shoves from the Oilers still on the ice but she had worst happen to her.
“You are and idiot Jokinen, a real idiot,” Sid said laughing, “Why would you scream something like that?”
“I don’t know, it just kind of came out like that.”
They went into the visitor’s locker room to find cheers from the other guys. Jamie was surrounded by reporters while everyone else was getting ready to leave.
“How were you able to avoid the four Oilers in their defensive zone?” one of them asked.
“Speed kills. By that I mean is that if you have speed on your side it is easier to catch the defense flat footed.”
“How do you feel about the penguins recent struggles?”
“That is not my place to comment, if you want a real answer go ask Mike Johnston. Every team hits rough spots in my opinion it is better we are going through it right now then later in the season when every game counts. That ‘s not saying these games don’t count, all I’m saying is later in the season these types of games will count so much more. Personally I can speak from experience, if you don’t compete in these games you aren’t going to make the playoffs,” Jamie told them. She was thinking about how last year everyone decided to get hurt so it was a makeshift team for Assat and they came up short for the playoffs.
Before the Penguins left Edmonton to head to Calgary, they went to get something to eat. It was this nice small restaurant, but it was anything but quiet.
“I figured out why Sweden and Russia hate you,” Geno said out of nowhere.
“Really, why?” Jamie asked.
“You do stuff like tonight,” he said.
“What stuff?”
“Yell, on enemy ice, ‘That’s how you win a hockey game’,” Downie butted in.
“And insult the other teams stars,” Kunitz added.
“So?” Jamie asked, her mouth full of food.
“Did your parents ever teach you manners?” Sid asked.
“Probably, I’ve been told I don’t have good manners, are you going to eat that?” she asked Flower.
“Yes.”
“Oh, if you weren’t then I would totally eat it. I still hungry,” she rambled.
“For as much as you eat, how do you look the way you do?” someone asked.
“In the offseason I help with this camp and play street hockey with some of my friends who didn’t make it to the professional level,” she said.
“Do you ever take a break from hockey becasue I’m pretty sure even Sid doesn’t even do that much?” Letang asked.
“Not really, oh cake!” Jamie said getting everyone off track.
Perron leaned over to Sid and asked, “Are we positive she is 20 or did someone lie to us?”
“I gave up trying about 3 months ago,” Sid laughed.
“The world my never know.”
