It's a Girl's Game

Preseason flew by for Jamie. It mostly consisted of her making a name for herself among the team. It wasn’t hard to do; she knew what it would take to get the boys to like her. After two years playing for JYP in the SM-Liiga, Jamie learned what it took to earn respect.
“So, you ready for tonight’s opener?” Sidney asked coming up behind Jamie.
“Not really. I don’t get, I was never this nervous for Worlds or Juniors or even my JYP debut. I don’t even know who I am right now,” she replied and you could hear the nerves in her voice.
“You’ll be fine,” Chris Kunitz said, “Just keep shooting like you did in practice. I mean you got quite a few behind flower.”
“Yeah Jamie, just do that slapper of your’s, I can’t even see it coming,” Flower reassured her.
“Thanks guys,” Jamie said, “Now it’s time to get ready for tonight, we got some Ducks to fry.”
“What?” Olli asked, “I’ve heard a ton a strange stuff come out of your mouth, but that has to be the strangest.”
“Hey, Selanne and Koivo don’t play for them anymore, I can say whatever I want,” Jamie told him.
“Yeah sure,” Olli said.

5 minutes before the puck dropped and Jamie was very, very nervous. It wasn’t just the fact she was about to play in front of thousands of people. It was the fact she was playing in the best hockey league in the world.
“Lets go, lets go!” Brandon Sutter shouted followed by the cheers of several Penguins. With that the Penguins took the ice for the first time of the 2014-2015 season.

The first 5 minutes were a blur for Jamie. She was very surprised how the Penguins fans accepted the fact she was a girl. She was not expecting that to happen. Once she got a couple of shifts in, she was good to go for the rest of the game.
The game was tied with one minute left in the second:
“Jokinen takes the puck at center. She’s got a breakaway! Fowler cross checks her just as she goes to shoot the puck. The referee is calling for a penalty shot. I’ve heard she is good at these.”
The referee sets the puck on the red line and singles for Jamie to go. She to the puck with her stick, blocking out every nose. The goalie came out to challenge, and was completely fooled when she started to go left. Jamie turned on a dime and with a wide open net, scored her first NHL goal and made history.
GOAL!!!! The horn sounded and you couldn’t hear yourself think, it was that loud.
The game was pretty uneventful from there. Just a couple goals being scored, other than that, nothing happened. The final horn sounded, the final score: Ducks 4 and Penguins 6. A night Jamie was going to remember for a long time.
