The Hockey Boys & Me

Chapter 7

Brayden pulled into the Wells Fargo, but I had a hankering suspicion that he would bring me here.

He ran around to the other side of his car, to open the door for me, like a gentleman. I blushed at his chivalric action. Brayden placed his hand in mine, and smiled at me.

We reached the door for the players to enter, which he held open for me. Brayden took my hand again, and led me down the hall, and down to the door to the ice. Two pair of skates sat near the door, but he didn't notion for us to lace up. Brayden gave me one last look before he opened the door to the ice.

Instead of being entirely lit up, it was dimmed, like for a time of playing the national anthem before the start of a game. A black carpet ran from the edge of the ice to a small table, situated in the middle of the rink.

I was in awe that he had pulled together an evening like this.

"Hungry?" Brayden whispered in my ear, very softly. I was finding the words to respond to be difficult to grasp, so I nodded my head. Together, we walked along the carpet to the table, covered with a deep red tablecloth. Two plates, covered by silver domes sat on the table, one on each side.

Brayden pulled out my chair for me, and then pushed me closer to the table. Without waiting for him to take his seat, I removed the cover from the plate. A large, juicy filet mignon sat there, making my mouth want to water at just the sight of it!

Brayden sat there, waiting for an expression to appear on my face. I figured I should mess with him, just a little bit...

"You don't like it, do you?" I could hear the defeat in his eyes, like making a comeback, and tying the game in the third period, only to be shut down by the other team anyways.

"No, I'm sorry Brayden, I-I don't..." I let out a deep breath, but then Brayden started smirking.

"Lies!" He said, and then started laughing.

"Alright! Alright! You got me!" I put my hands up, showing he had won. "Did you make this?" I had to ask, because if he did, he doesn't need to wait to ask me to marry him! I'll marry a man that can cook like this any day!

"No, sorry. Hartsy helped me out." He chuckled at bit when I took my first bite and moaned at how good it was.

"Then you're taking lessons from him, and so is my brother." I wasn't necessarily kidding with him either. Along with the huge piece of meat, there was a small pile of rice pilaf and steamed broccoli. We barely talked at all while eating. It was just too good!

When we finished eating, we went back to the entrance to put our skates on.

"I want to show you something." Brayden said, once I stood up on my skates. He took my hand, and laced our fingers together. We skated to the opposite side of the rink. Brayden stopped us, and moved so that he was behind me, and wrapped his long arms around my waist.

In front of my feet, looked like a mess of broken sticks. But on a further look, it held a message.

'Will you be my girlfriend?'

Brayden had taken broken hockey sticks to spell out that message for me. He rested his chin on my shoulder, probably waiting for me to respond, but I was in shock!

"You, you really want me to be your girlfriend?" I stammered, barely able to process what he was asking me.

"I want you to be my girlfriend more than anything in the world." His voice was the same soft and gentle tone that I loved.

"Yes." I whispered to him. "Yes." I said it louder. "Yes!" The last time I yelled it, because I wanted everyone to know how excited I was. I wasted no time to bring his lips down to my own, sealing the beginning of us with a perfect kiss.

The smiles on our faces were indescribable. Excitement was evident, but the relief was also clear on Brayden's.

"Do you want to skate?" Brayden asked quietly.

"Sure." Brayden retracted one arm from my waist, but held another securely around me. We toured around the rink, holding each other close, and I couldn't imagine a better place to be.

--

"Do you want to go home?" Brayden asked when we were leaving the Wells.

"Not really."

"Good, because I have another surprise for you." He smiled at me, almost beaming.

"Did you pay Claude to go somewhere else?" I questioned him teasingly. He laughed along with me, but denied it.

"I really did make this for you." Brayden said, as he reached into the fridge. He pulled out a cake, covered in white frosting. "I heard that red velvet cake is your favorite."

"You made a red velvet cake for me? Really? Thanks Bray!" I reached up to kiss his cheek, lingering there for as long as I could. Brayden cut out a piece, a large one, for us to share.

"No promises if it's good or not." Brayden muttered a quick warning. I took one of the forks in his hand as soon as we settled onto the couch.

"It's really good Brayden." I told him after chewing and swallowing my first bite.

"It is?" He asked skeptically and sounded surprised.

"It is." I assured him.

We flicked through the channels for hours, not able to settle on anything to watch.

"Can I stay here tonight?" I asked Brayden shyly. I didn't want to impose, but then again...didn't he just ask me to be his girlfriend? I have no clue what I am or am not allowed to do and say!

"Of course." Brayden rubbed the end of his nose against mine. "I love it when you spend the night." He whispered huskily.

"Me too."

****

The coming week brought exhibition games for the team. You could see the fire in their eyes as they stepped on the ice the first night for their against the Islanders.

Claude was on fire from the moment he entered. Bryz was spot on, blocking every shot that came his way. With the confidence of those two, the rest of the team fed off their positive energy. Simmonds had a goal with three minutes left in the first period.

Once he got the ball rolling, the boys never let it stop. Claude pulled an impressive goal off a breakaway. Voracek had a goal, which Brayden assisted. The Islanders weren't able to get one in on Bryz at all!

Two days later, the boys played the Devils on their ice. The score was tied at one through to the end of the third period. Our goal was scored by Claude, assisted by Gavin and Voracek.

In overtime, the boys were barely able to squeeze out the win. Hartsy scored the winning goal, Tye McGinn earned a point for the assist, along with Sean Couturier.

But at the moment, Georgie and I are sitting in the Wells Fargo Center, with glass seats, as we watch the last exhibition game for the Flyers.

And, it was against the Penguins.

"So you guys are official now?" Georgie asked me during the first intermission.

"Yeah, we are." I smiled shyly. The score was still at zero, but it was nail biting and nerve wracking. It was a constant back and forth, kind of like mine and Gavin's bantering.

A few minutes later, the boys were back out on the ice. Malkin and Crosby were really pissing me off, and I wasn't a big fan of their notorious playboy, James Neal. Fleury was playing excellent in their goal, and that was only making me angrier!

Giroux shot off like a rocket, barely a minute into the second period, and was able to get a nice shot, but it rang off the post. Thankfully, Voracek was right there to rebound it in!

"GOAL!" Came from the speakers. The wave of orange stood on their feet, jumping around and clapping. At the first exhibition game, I wore a Cosey jersey. Tonight, however, I proudly wore my Schenn jersey, for Brayden. I didn't tell him, but I am looking forward to seeing his reaction...

It's not like Sidney Crosby to be okay with losing to his ultimate rivals. Everyone who knows who Crosby is, knows this. Naturally, the Penguins came back. Crosby scored, but the cheers that came from the stands weren't even half as loud as the previous goals'.

The amount of boos coming from the Flyers fans drowned out the Penguins cheers!

I looked over at Georgie. She was just as nervous as I was.

Brayden came out on the ice, looking determined. Unfortunately, two puck bunnies were sitting right behind Georgie and I.

One of them tapped me on the shoulder. "Hey." She said quickly. I raised an eyebrow at her, not wanting to take my attention off the game.

"That Schenn guy on your shirt, he's the new hot guy right?" Well she's stupid and a puck bunny.

"Yup." I snapped at her.

"Hmm. I think we'll go see him after the game, right Brit?" She said quite loudly to her friend sitting next to her.

"He has a girlfriend." Georgie told the stupid bitch.

"So? Who gives a fuck?" The girl snapped back.

"I'm his girlfriend, and I do!" I stood up and told her confidently. I whipped out my phone and texted Isaac, an usher who's helped me out before.

"Why would he want you?" She asked in her high-pitched snotty tone.

"Because she's not a whore." Georgie answered her, with a disgusted look plastered on her face. Isaac was there in no time for me to ask him to move these girls either to a new section or kick them out. Not exactly sure where they went, but they were out of our hair!

I turned my attention back to the game right at the moment when Brayden was slammed into the boards. I cringed as I watched him get back up. By then, Gavin had taken out the guy who checked Brayden. Gavin was off to the penalty box, but looking almost triumphant.

Georgie was smirking at her man, but I guess they're just a...thing like that.

"So are you two official yet?" I wiggled my eyes suggestively at my best friend.

"Oh shut up." She smacked my arm. Her cheeks flushed red, giving in it away.

"Aww! He did, didn't he?" I nearly squealed, but Hartsy crushing a Pen into the boards in front of us made it die in my throat.

Georgie nodded, but then our focus returned to this back and forth game.

Halfway through the third period, Brayden scored his very first NHL goal! I jumped out of my seat, extremely excited as Georgie cheered along next to me.

Gavin and Luke congratulated him, along with the entire stadium.

Final score, 3-1, Philadelphia Flyers with the win! Hartsy scored three minutes after Brayden. Georgie and I made our way to the locker room after a few minutes. Isaac and Ryan were keeping a few crazy fans out of the boys' way.

A few minutes later, we were allowed to enter. Gavin ran around the corner from the showers and immediately stole Georgie from me, wrapping her up in a kiss. A few other girlfriends and wives were in here, and the Briere boys were surely on their way down!

Brayden came around the corner as well, already but pants on. He was lacking a shirt, but I was in now way going to tell him to put one on. He walked over to me, grinning from ear to ear.

"Hi." He seemed shy, like I felt, but excitement was bursting from his pores.

"Hi." I returned, knowing that many pairs of eyes were on us at the moment.

Brayden lifted my chin to his lips slowly. Our kiss was light and not very long, but that didn't stop the assholes in the room from letting out their whistles and cat calls. But we weren't the first victims of the night and definitely wouldn't be the last.

"Wanna go back to mine?" Brayden asked quietly, low enough so no one else could hear. I nodded in response. Brayden and I weren't of legal age here in the States yet. Hell, I won't be legal until right before next season!

"You were great tonight." I told Brayden after he showed me his picture and puck labeled 'First NHL Goal'.

"Heard you had two puck bunnies kicked out tonight." Brayden chuckled. I blushed, but reached up to kiss him nonetheless.

"They were after my man, and called me ugly." I shrugged, knowing that I did the right thing.

"You're not ugly, Alli, you're beautiful." I really wanted to take advantage of the moment and obnoxiously say, "Well duh, I know!", but I didn't. I thanked him, and kissed him, harder this time. Looking at the clock, it was almost midnight, and I was beat!

"Ready for bed?" Brayden asked. I swear he and I might have a telepathic mind connection. I pressed my head into his chest and nodded. Brayden captured my legs and arms, and carried me bridal style into the bedroom.

As he laid me on the bed, I whispered in his ear, "I'm really proud of you Bray."
