New Beginnings

Fresh Start

Kirsten's POV
I was about 20 minutes outside Dallas when my mom texted me. 'Hey hunny, are you there safe and sound yet?' She said, worrying about me as usual. I replied with, 'No mom, I told you I would call you when I got there, stop worrying'. I spent the rest of my drive the way I had spent the last 18 hours; listening to music, thinking about how I was starting my new life here in Dallas. I got a decent apartment, because I had been saving up since the day I could get a job. And it also hepled that I had two other roommates paying their share. And that I had worked two part-time jobs, gone to school, and played college volleyball, all at once. You could say I was a bit of an overachiever...
I finally pulled up to my apartment building exhausted, and ready for bed. I walked up, and the guy at the front desk, or concierge or something fancy like that greeted me, because I was new with, "Hello, you must be Ms. Kirsten Sorensen." It was strange having someone call me missus, despite the fact that I used to work at a hospital.
"Yes, that's me, but theres no need to call me missus!" and he laughed, and said, "Well, I assume you know your in room 2236?" and I of course knew this, but I still needed the key. "I have the key right here for you, but I need to see some ID and proof of your former residence, please." I procured the right documents, and he continued, "I hope you really enjoy it here, and if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to ask." Wow, this place is even better than I thought. My wallet thought maybe it should have been made of panda or some shit like that, but it was way nicer than the college dorms I was used to.
I was rooming with one girl I didn't know, because her two roommates moved out a few weeks ago. She posted an ad, and Olivia and I were already looking to move to Dallas anyways, but she couldn't have been more perfect to room with, and it was actually in Olivia and I's price range. Well... split three ways it was!
I was and I wasn't looking forward to meeting Marie, our new roommate. I go over the the elevator, and press the button for the 22nd floor. I walk down the hallway to 2236, and I'm not sure if I should knock, despite the fact that legally I resided in this house anyways. I decided to knock, just to be sure. A girl with light brown frizzy hair opens the door, and she is around my height, which is saying something, because I'm a healthy 5'11, but all the sports rosters say 6'. She gestures for me to come inside and says, "Mi casa es su casa. I'm Marie, and which one are you again?" She said. "I'm Kirsten! And I just wanted to say thank you for letting Liv and I room with you! I'm super excited, and so is she!" I said, meaning every word. "Speaking of the other one, where is she?"She said. I really liked the way she said, 'the other one' too. "She won't be here til next week. SHe's driving down too, but she had to work until Friday, then she is packing and saying goodbye and leaving either Saturday or Sunday." I explained. "I'm so ready for bed right now. I've been driving for almost 19 hours. Where is my room?"
"Follow me," she said, and led me down a short hallway into a nice room, with sheets already on the bed, looking so luxurious that all I want to do is flop down. "Do you have any stuff you need?" Marie says. I respond with, "Nothing that can't wait til morning, night Marie and I pull out my phone charger, plug it in, and put my headphones in.I can't fall asleep without my music, and haven't been able to since I was in high school. I plop down on the bed and fall asleep within minutes.
