Talking Bodies

Chapter 3

I roll onto my stomach to muffle my yawn with my pillow as I glanced at the tiny clock on the night stand, 7:38 A.M., it read. I groaned, with a look at the man that lay next to me. He looked so at peace with one tattooed arm draped over his eyes and the other laying on the blankets across his stomach.
Whoa, I thought to myself as I remembered last night, wouldn't mind doing that again.
I sighed as I watched the man next to me for a little while longer before I rolled out of his bed and took my time gathering my clothes, because if this guy was anything like Jamie I knew he wouldn't be up before 10, so I had plenty of time.
Once I gathered all my clothes I made my way to the living room, grabbed my purse off the floor, where I left it last night, and retrieved the pen and paper I kept in there for occasions like these.
Don't be a stranger, call me anytime. I smiled as I finished with the last digits of my phone number, complete with a fake name, before I ripped the blue post - it note off the stack.

A huge smile covered my face as I walked to the dance studio to meet Karen for are morning workouts. There was nothing that could spoil my mood right now except for Karen.
She leaned against the desk in the front of the studio; arms crossed, “Have a nice night Beth?”
A light blush crept to my cheeks as I looked at her, “last night was like the best night of my life.”
With a quick roll of her eyes she sighed, “Jamie?”
“No,” I shook my head as I leaned onto the desk next to her. “Jamie usually doesn’t call two nights in a row, but he’ll probably call tonight.” My face broke into a smile as I thought about it.
“And you’re okay with that?” Karen fumbled her eyebrows, she’s known Beth for 4 years know but she still didn’t understand why or how she did this.
“With what,” I questioned.
“With just being someone’s booty call,” she looked at me, with a questionable yet sorrowful look in her eyes.
“Yea,” I shrugged, not sure what the problem was as she replied, “it’s just easier that way.”
“Easier then what,” Karen asked, pleaded for an answer because for the first time she wanted to understand.
I looked at Karen, debating what to tell her, because all the time that I’ve known Karen she’s never ask once asked me that, she’s never tried to understand, so with a sigh I decided to go with the truth, “because it’s easier then committing.”
Karen only nodded her head, but I knew she didn’t understand, she couldn’t understand.
“Karen, I’m not like you.” I told her, for the first time trying to get her to understand. “I’m not the commitment type. I don’t think I’ll ever be,” I shrugged, “I get bored way too easily, and now I have the perfect mix between sweet and rough.”
“Well Beth, I still don’t agree with this,” she sighed, “but if that’s what you want then okay, I will learn to deal with it.”
“Thanks Karen.”
“And I’m sorry if I’ve been hard on you these last couple of years it’s just you’re like my little sister and I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“Well Karen, that’s the thing with no commitment, there’s no room for heart break.” I told her, and I could tell she still wasn’t 100% comfortable with this, but that was because Karen knew that that wasn’t true, and Beth was in for a world of hurt.

Just like clockwork, Beth thought as her phone rang from the living room. A sly smile slid onto her face as she wiped her hands on the kitchen towel and made her way to the living room. She picked up her phone off the couch, not surprised to see Jamie’s name scrolled across the screen.
She answered the phone with a smile, “Hey Jamie.”
“Hey Sarah,” Jamie replied, using the fake name I gave him the first time we hooked up, which was only supposed to be a one night thing, until I ran into Jamie a couple nights later and the rest is history. “Have any plans tonight?”
“Not unless you’re inviting me over?” I twirled a strand of hair around my finger as I teased him. I loved to tease Jamie because he was just so fun to mess with, but I knew that was just him being polite. It was obvious that he didn’t do this often.
“So that’s a no?” He asked in his soft voice.
“That’s a no Jamie,” I confirmed with a shake of my head.
“Good, cause I need some company tonight.” He said, which in his language meant he needed someone to sleep with, and I was happy to oblige.
“I’ll be over in 10 minutes.” I told him as I walked to my bedroom to grab my coat; there was no need to chance out of my yoga pants and tank top because I knew they wouldn’t be on much longer anyway.

I think Beth should go with Tyler. I mean Jamie is great and all but Beth and Tyler have feelings for each for other and I think they make a cuter couple.
