Only Temporary

“He did what?!” Blair screams on the other end of the phone. Cyan cringes at her best friend’s loud voice in her ear, continuing with her laundry until Blair calms down. Cyan herself can’t even believe what happened this afternoon—Sidney freakin’ Crosby is into her? And James Neal?

“I don’t believe this, you’re so lucky you know that?” Cyan shrugs and grins to herself, secretly admitting that she enjoys the attention.

“No need to tell me that, Blair. It just kind of happened. First, we were talking and it was all normal then…” Cyan replays the event in her head; Sidney’s large, warm hand cupping her face so gently she wanted to melt. The way her heart raced when he admitted he likes her. The massive urge she had to kiss him.

“It’s just all confusing. This doesn’t happen to me, I don’t have guys lined up to try to be with me,” Cyan takes her clean clothes out of the dryer and dumps them in a laundry basket, carrying it on her hip and into her room where she starts folding.

“All you have to do is date them both!” Blair exclaims like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“What the hell? No!” Cyan would never do such a thing. It’s not fair to either man and they play together she wouldn’t dare to ruin their relationship. “Blair, that’s not an option.”

“Oh come on,” Cyan can hear Blair put something into her microwave. Popcorn. “It’s easy; go on a few dates with the both of them then chose one! Obviously, they both have to know about it otherwise, it could be a shit situation.” Cyan rolls her eyes.

“It appears that you have had some experience in this department?” That wouldn’t surprise her; Blair has always lived her life in the fast lane. Boys always wanted her and she always wanted boys. How she hasn’t ended up pregnant is a miracle. Cyan herself had been a late bloomer not that that bothered her. She just was more goal orientated and knew that she had to work twice as hard to get half of what others had.

“Duh, how’d you think I decided my boyfriends? But seriously, Cy. Baby, you gotta do this; you have to date both.” Blair’s microwave dings as Cyan finished folding the last t-shirt.

“I don’t have to do anything. James approached me first and I like him so I’ll see where we go.” But Sid’s face in the back of her mind and his touch lingers on her skin. Cyan pinches the bridge of her nose. Why did they both have to like her at the same time?

“Okay,” Blair’s voice is muffled from the popcorn. “You have to report to me about everything.”


“You’re such an idiot,” Max tells Sid over breakfast at his old place in Pittsburgh. Even though he is now a Flyer, he still loves Pittsburgh and couldn’t bring himself to part with it completely. Hearing Sid’s story about his afternoon with Cyan is amusing if it weren’t a little sad.

“I know,” Sid groans, covering his face with his hands. He knew that James has a thing for Cyan and that she seems to be into him so why the hell would he try to fuck that up. “I didn’t mean to I swear. It just kind of happened.”

“Are you going to tell him?” Max knows that Sidney should probably tell James that he made a move on Cyan but he also knows that James has a short fuse and that’s an encounter that could escalate very quickly.

“I’m not sure yet. I told her to just forget what happened—I swear there was something there, Max. I could feel it.”

“That’s a boner dude,” Max says with a cheeky grin. Sid gives him a frustrated sigh.

“Ha ha, very funny. No, there was definitely some attraction there. Fuck me, I’m an idiot.”

“Hey, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem,” Max laughs. Sidney has had enough of his bullshit and he throws his napkin at Max’s head as he gets up to leave.

“Later Max,” Sid shouts from the front door.

“Lover Boy, you didn't clean up your plate!” Max yells. Sidney flips him the bird, grinning as he leaves.

Oh my gosh, it's been almost a year since I updated this! I'm so, so sorry. Life happened and I was feeling no motivation to write this story but it's cute so I'm gonna give it another go.
