Flashback to 2008, when Tom and Maggie were freshmen in high school

Tom's POV
"Its so obvious that you like Maggie" Bryan chirped me in front of my group of friends. "No I don't. Anyway, she's got a boyfriend. And her dad scares me" "Damn, you're afraid of her dad? Why?" "Because he taught her self-defense and he was in the Navy for like the first ten years of her life. Anyway, I don't need to explain my answer to you" I said as the bell rang for school to start that morning. Maggie and I had English together and I sat on the other side of the room from her. I didn't pay attention during that lesson because all I saw was her puffy eyes. "Mags, what's wrong?" "I broke up with Derrick; I found out that he was cheating on me" "He was not good enough for you and if I see him" she cut me off "You say that no one is good enough for me. Do you want me to be some crazy cat lady or something? You aren't going to do anything because James already has a restraining order against him." she said when we were leaving class to head to the next one, she had maths and I had World History. Later that day, I walked home with her, as I always did since we lived a few houses over from each other. "Maggie, I'm sorry if I overstepped any lines, but he wasn't good for you. He was cheating on you for months" I told her, not really sure if it would do anything. It didn't and she went into her house crying. I thought her dad was on leave, but he wasn't. ''WILSON! WHY THE FUCK IS MY DAUGHTER CRYING?" Joe screamed at me when she went inside. "Sir, she broke up with Derrick, since she found out that he was cheating on her and I told her that he was cheating on her for months and that's when she burst into tears. Sir, I didn't intend to make her cry, it just happened." "C'mon in, it's time you learn some stuff" I walked in and took off my shoes since he would yell at me and I didn't want to get yelled at again from him. "You don't tell someone that their significant other was cheating on them, you let them tell you when they find it out by themselves." "Well, sir, I didn't know that. My parents are big on the 'no cheating in a relationship' thing. Anything else?" "Be there for Maggie over the next few weeks and keep an eye on her, she's had some issues with her friends. Now go home"

Current day
Tom's POV
"Morning, gorgeous" I told Maggie when she rolled over on top of me that morning. "Morning, handsome. I have the weekend off" she told me "And you don't have a game yet, do you have practice?" "Nope. Why what are you plotting in that beautiful mind of yours?" "Well, I was thinking that we should go home. It's been awhile since it's just been the Ryans and Wilsons. And it's what an 8ish hour drive? Wanna split it?" "Pack a bag, babe and grab the keys to your parent's house. I'll think about splitting the drive with you. I'll shoot Latts a text when we leave" And like that, we were out the door.

Maggie's POV
We started heading towards the border and I was vibrating with excitement. "Baby, let me drive" I started whining "Nope." Tom said and put his hand onto my knee to stop it from bouncing. "I know that this is way too late, but baby, thank you for being my rock when I had the pregnancy scare." I should explain: I was dating this guy for the better part of last year and once the condom broke and the next few days I was a complete hot mess. I called Tom all hours of the day hysterically crying. He put up with it and he sent me some cookies and a bottle of Jack Daniels and a bottle of Coke with a "you're not pregnant" card. I told my mom weeks after it happened and I think she wanted me then to have a baby with Tom. "We'll be there in about 6 hours. Why don't you take a nap?" he asked and like that, I was out. When I woke up, we were pulling into his parents driveway. "Are you ready, baby?" he asked "Hell yeah" I said and he ran out of the car to open my door, I glared and told him "Baby, I get enough of this at work I don't need it from you" "I need to because your dad will beat the hell out of me" and he unlocked the door. "Mum should be home in a little bit and Dad will be home in about an hour" he told me "Okay. What do you?" I started asking and that's when his Mum came in "Tom! You're here" "I'm not alone" and she turned to see me "Hi to the future Mrs. Tom Wilson
