The Cabin by the Lake

We met up with Ryan after the game. Ben kept talking about my brother…I just nodded, trying to hold in my tears. Ryan walked over and Logan grabbed my hand, my eyes glistening as he walked closer. “Hey Ry, this is Ben, Christa, and Logan.” He shook all their hands, and Logan hid behind me. I knelt down and looked at her, “He’s a great guy, talk to him!” She walked over to him and he knelt down. I walked over to Ben, “Hey I have to check on something…I’ll be right back.” He nodded and I went back into the arena where Ryan came out. I flashed my Bruin’s badge and the security guard let me in. I found a small area where no one was and sat against the wall and cried. This complete stranger knew my brother…my brother saved his life…he named his daughter after my brother. I brought my knees up to my chest. I missed my brother.

“Emily?” I looked up to see Zac, “What…are you okay?” He knelt down and put his hand on my knee. He wiped my tears, “I met someone tonight…he was in the military with my brother.” Zac wrapped his arms around me. “He named his daughter after him.” He rubbed my back. “Emily, look at me.” I looked up and he wiped my tears. “You have to go to Ryan with this stuff…he’s your boyfriend…” I nodded, “I know…” he took my hand and helped me up. “So Ryan told you?” He nodded, “He’s telling everyone…you have to tell him…you have to go to him…” I looked up at Zac, “Do you not want me to come to you? I didn’t know you’d find me here…I just needed a second alone…” He brought me into a hug, “I know…you can always come to me…but Ryan comes first now.” He kissed the top of my head and he walked away.

Ryan sat with me in my rent-a-car, he held my hand and I went through how I got here and about Ben and Logan. He listened and wiped my tears. “Let me drive, to the hotel we are staying at. We are driving to Tampa tomorrow for our next game…come to that one too?” I nodded and he kissed me lightly. We got into his hotel room and Zac’s words were spinning in my head…to tell Ryan everything. I put my bag down and looked at the room. It was a simple room. One bed, bathroom, TV…Ryan wrapped his arms around me. “So…are we actually doing this?” I turned to him, I have to tell him…”Yeah, we are.” He kissed me hard, “I wasn’t expecting you to be here…I don’t really know what I was expecting…you surprise every day Emily.” I gave him a smile. He is my boyfriend. My official boyfriend…but my mind was in other places... “Are you still thinking about that family? The one your brother…” He trailed off and I smiled, “I just feel a little discombobulated…Of all families…” He wrapped my in a hug again and kissed the top of my head. “I’m always going to be here Em…I’m always here to listen.” I laughed, “I bet there is something else you’d rather do.” He smiled, “Yeah…but it can wait.” He laid on the bed and I laid on his chest, hearing his heart beat. I looked up at him. “We are doing this Ry. You and me. The past doesn’t matter. What matters is here and now.” He rolled on top of me, “I’ve been waiting a long time for you to say those words.” I kissed him hard, I stopped thinking and just let me body go. Couple sex was different than what the hell sex. I actually felt self-conscious of what I was doing, how I looked…But Ryan was just as gentle, he was perfect.

I woke up the next morning with a half-naked Ryan next to me. I slipped out of bed and put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt I packed. I grabbed the hotel key and left the room. I walked towards the breakfast area and saw Zac sitting alone. “This seat taken?” I asked, and he looked up. “You can sit.” I smiled and sat across from him. He looked tired, like he hadn’t gotten much sleep. “So…I have a boyfriend…and it’s weird.” He laughed, “I…I’m happy for you. You deserve Ryan, he’s a great guy.” I nodded, “I haven’t told him yet.” Zac shrugged, “you’ve got time.” I watched him sip his coffee, “Are you okay?” He nodded, “Yeah, just tired from yesterday’s game.” I nodded, “You’re lying.” He nodded, “I just…uh…miss Steph is all.” I nodded, “Well, I better get going…” He nodded, “good luck today.” He smiled, “thanks.” I grabbed a few breakfast items and brought them back to Ryan’s room. I laid on the bed and played with his hair, “Hey…it’s time to wake up.” I kissed his shoulder and rolled over towards me. “I could get used to walking up to you every morning.” I smiled, “I grabbed some breakfast too.” He smiled, “I’m a lucky man.” He got up and took a shower before eating breakfast. I had texted Casey and Sarah, Guess who officially has a boyfriend! They responded with finally! And No way! I’m so glad it worked out! Ryan joined me at the small table, “So, we will be heading to the bus to go to Tampa soon. I got you a ticket for tonight's game.” He smiled, he was constantly smiling. “Can I be honest?” I asked and his smile faded a little, “Of course.” I took his hand, “I don’t feel much different now that you’re officially my boyfriend…it kind of feels like you’ve always been my boyfriend.” His smile grew wide and he kissed my hand, “I’m happy to hear that.”
