A Missing Puzzle Piece
Chapter 9
Travis's POV
I awoke, still holding Molli. There was a strange noise, and carefully I moved, careful not to wake Molli.
I maneuvered over to Alexandra's bed. She was awake and sitting up. There was a look of discomfort on her face.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
She rubbed her jaw. "I'm not sure. Suddenly I can't feel my jaw, or right arm. I feel like some one is sitting on me." She took a few short breaths. "Can you call the doc-"
She was interrupted by a wince, and she closed her mouth, trying not to yell. "The person just paid a visit to McDonalds!"
I smiled. "Alright. I'll-"
Dr. Schroeder rushed in. "What's happening?"
"Well I heard a strange noise coming from the girl, so I came to see what's wrong. She said before that her jaw and right arm are numb, and it feels like some McDonalds addict is sitting on her, if you get my analogy. She seems to not be able to breathe easily."
The doctor nodded. "Ms. Regan isn't going to like this, but I'm almost certain she's having a heart attack. If you don't mind me asking, do you live locally?"
I nodded. "I'll take Molli. Can I give you my phone number so you can call to update us?"
She nodded. "Leave it downstairs. I'm going to try and save Alexandra."
I kissed Alexandra's head. "That's from Aunt Molli. She loves you very much, and you'll see her again. Good luck, she says. You can make it through this. Make it through for your Aunt Molli. Bye Alexandra. Hopefully I can see you again soon."
I picked Molli up, as Dr. Schroeder was taking the little girl in fornheart surgery.
Driving home, tears filled my eyes. The girl wasn't even 10 years old. She had her whole life ahead of her! She had to make it through.
I knew that I had to take Molli somewhere, and if Zach was back at the house it wasn't going to be an option.
I didn't even want to look at Zach, not sure if he was going to be cooled off enough to talk to. If he was mad, I didn't have any gloves to drop.
Molli was still asleep in the back seat. I sighed. If Zach wasn't home I would take Molli into my room and I'd chill downstairs. If Zach WAS home, I would drive away praying that he wouldn't spot my hard-to-miss car.
I drove to the house. Zach's black car wasn't in the driveway. I got out and checked the garage. He was gone!
I grabbed Molli out of the car, careful to keep her asleep. I carried her inside, throwing the door open behind me.
The TV was on, I could hear that.
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
Bang! The door slammed closed.
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
"Um hello?" I called. "Zach?"
No answer.
"ZACH?"
He wasn't here, and I did vaguely remember watching Men in Black before the game yesterday.
I let out a sigh of relief. And then I heard a car pull into the driveway. I looked out the window, and Zach had pulled into the driveway jaggedly.
I put Molli down on my bed then shut the door.
Running downstairs I sat on the couch and flipped through random channels fearing Zach would discover the fact that Molli was here.
After about 10 minutes Zach pulled away without even coming up thenporch.
I wondered what I should be doing.
I should probably get on the phone with Molli's sister. But I didn't have her number and I think Molli had said before that her sisters name was Lindsey, but she might have said Lizzy. Or Elizabeth. Or Liz. Or anything else.

MOLLI'S POV
I awoke in an unusually comfortable bed. It was bigger than mine, I could feel that just by moving my arms and not feeling the end of the bed anywhere near. The pillow was soft, and so was the blanket thrown over me.
I opened my eyes. The ceiling was a creamy white, as was the rest of the room. Very sunshiney, the windows let in lots of natural light.
Wait, where was I?
I was in the hospital. Nah, this bed was too luxurious for a hospital.
Travis. He must have taken me home last night. But then Alexandra...
I sprung out of bed to get all my questions answered.
"Hey." Travis said when I came downstairs.
"Hi. So what have I missed?"
Travis sat down. "Yikes. I'm not exactly sure what WE'VE missed."
"Don't speak in riddles. Come on Travis I'm not in the mood for this. I need to know what's going on!"
He stood up, and pressed his lips into mine.
