You Know Who I Am?

Forward to May 2016

It has been a couple months since Sara's and I vacation to the Bahamas and I have just finished my exams for the year. The habs had a disappointing second half of the season seeing them not make the playoffs. Brendan was REALLY bummed and he wasn't around a lot when hockey was over. I was in the middle of exam season and studying like crazy so I didn't have time to be consoling him.


Brendan had texted me one day telling me that he was going to go play for Canada at the World Championships in Russia. I was shocked but excited for him as he gets to play for Canada again.

So Brendan headed to Prague about a week ago to practice and do warmup games before they would head to Russia for their pool games. And I stayed in Montreal, and was planning on working in the city for the summer so I was staying in Sara and l's apartment instead of moving home.

After the World Championships, I think Brendan is going back home to Alberta and we will be away from each other for the summer. Sara is going home for the summer which I think will be good for her to try and get over Dustin. Sara never went to see Dustin when we got back from the Bahamas, which I was sad to see but if Sara really feels that way then I will support her.

So I headed on a plane with Mike Condon’s girlfriend, Lily and Alexei Emelin’s wife Val heading to Russia. Once we land in Moscow, Lily and I will take another plane ride to Saint Petersburg which is where the pool that USA and Canada are in will be playing, while Russia’s team is in Moscow.

I will be able to see the last pool play game against Finland and hopefully three more games for the quarter final, semi final, and gold medal game.

Brendan turned 24 at the start of the tournament and ended up scoring a goal on his birthday too which was a nice present for him. I am bringing Brendan’s birthday present from me to Russia because I figured mailing it when I am already going there, it no use. I was a little upset about missing his birthday, but I promised that once I got to Russia, we would get to celebrate together. For his birthday, I got him some new golf clubs and tickets to a Blue Jays game when we get back to Canada.

My plane got into Saint Petersburg around 9 am local time as Russia from home is 7 hours ahead and Brendan was supposed to pick me up from the airport which I was very happy about.

Right now I was standing beside Lily and Val waiting for our luggage to come around on the luggage carousel before heading out of the airport.

I find my luggage fairly quickly along with Lily and Val and we head towards the exit of the airport. I see Brendan, Mike, and Alexei waiting for us just inside the doors and I meet Brendan’s gaze as I walk towards him.

“The way he looks at you.” Lily coos from beside me. “You two are so cute.”

I blush at their words but stay quiet and keep my eyes on Brendan. He steps in front of Alexei and Mike stopping their conversation as Mike and Alexei spot us.

“Hi babe.” Brendan chirps when we get close. I smile and tuck myself into his arms. “How was the flight?” He asks.

“Good, long though.” I reply before pecking his jaw.

“I missed you.” He whispers in my ear.

“HE”S SO SOFT.” I hear Mike call from behind Brendan.

“So soft.” I hear Alexei say.

“He is in love, I remember when you were like that to me Alexei.” Val scolds her husband.

I chuckle and let go of Brendan grabbing his hand. “How is Russia?” I ask him as we walk out of the airport with the two other couples trailing behind us.

“It’s cool. This is my first time here, a lot different than Montreal.” He keeps describing Russia and hockey on our way to the rental car he had.

“So I’m staying with Marchand. We got put together in a room.” Brendan tells me as we pull up to our hotel.

“I figured you would have a room mate. It’s ok with me.” I say and get out of the car to grab my luggage before checking into my room.

“You tired?” Brendan asks me.

“A little, but not too bad. What about you?” I reply.

“I could go for a nap. Unless you want to tour around…” He trails off.

“Wait, I need to give you something.” I smile heading to my bag. I didn’t bring the golf clubs with me to Russia, I just brought a picture of the clubs and tapped to the back is the Blue Jays tickets.

“Since I missed your birthday.” I smile and hand Brendan the card.

“You didn’t need to get me anything babe.” Brendan smiles and takes the card.

“It’s your birthday and you didn’t let me pay for this trip so I needed to get you something.”

Brendan opens his card and reads the quite long note that I wrote to him.

To Brendan:
I’m glad that you came into my life when you did. We met at a bar and we haven’t looked back since. I know this season wasn’t the best but with the challenges that came, we got through them together. I wish I could have spent your birthday with you in this interesting country. But I am still happy that I get to spend days with you, I love having you as a friend and a boyfriend. I really hope you enjoy your gift as it was something special to show how much you mean to me. I can’t wait for the many, many, many more memories we make. i love you

Brendan puts down the card and grabs the back of my neck pressing his lips to mine passionately. “Man I love you.”

I smile and peck Brendan’s lips. “Do you like your gift?”

Brendan looks down and I know he didn’t even look at the picture or the tickets. “Babe.” He states still staring at his gift. “Golf clubs and Jays tickets. This is too much.” He scolds.

“Oh hush, you paid for my plane tickets and my hotel room which it definitely more than my two gifts.” I tell him. “I just wanted to show you how special you are to me.” I smile leaning into him.

“Let me show you how special you are to me.” Brendan whispers in my ear, pushing me farther onto the bed and starts to kiss my neck.

Our trip in Russia is almost over, tomorrow we leave for Montreal. Earlier tonight, Canada won the World Championship and I was so, so proud of Brendan and to experience this with him was a great memory. Brendan and the team with their girlfriends were out celebrating tonight before we have to get back on a plane tomorrow and go back to Canada. When coming to Russia, I was a little hesitant to see first hand what the country was about, but now that I am here, I have found that this is such a beautiful country with a lot of history within all of the buildings. Russia are also massive hockey fans which reminds me of Canada.

I have become friends with Ashley, Matt Duchene’s girlfriend and Dara, Mark Scheifele’s girlfriend as they are in similar age to me. So this is how I am sitting at a table with Ashley and Dara and the other wags while the boys are at the bar getting us drinks.

“How did you meet Mark?” I ask Dara.

“Through a mutual friend in Winnipeg. I’m pretty sure he asked her once he saw me in the olympics.” She chuckles. Dara won gold in ski cross in Sochi so she is a pretty cool person to be honest.

“So you train in Winnipeg?” Dayna, Ryan O’Reilly’s girlfriend asks.

“Yeah, which is nice. But I travel a lot to Europe to train for weeks at a time at a different spot too. It’s hard when were both travelling.” Dara explains.

“I don’t think I would be able to do what you do.” I confess. “It’s hard enough when Brendan is gone for a week. I couldn’t imagine being gone from him for longer than that.”

“Yeah.” She smiles. “Its really hard at times, but then he just reminds me of Sochi and it just makes it better. Makes it all worth it.” She softly smiles looking over at him.

“You two are so cute.” Ashley comments. “I love how your both achieving your dreams.”

“You are the one engaged.” Dara smiles back at her. Matt asked Ashley to marry him just prior to leaving for Russia and I think they are so cute.

“Do you want Mark to propose?” Ashley asks Dara.

Dara pales. “Oh gosh no, not yet. I think when he asks, I will have to stop skiing and I don’t want to do that right now. I mean its a massive commitment. But I wouldn’t say no right now, but I like where we are right now.”

I respect Dara’s answer, it seems she has been thinking about this a lot. “Are you guys gonna get married right away or wait a bit before?” I ask Ash, trying to make sure Dara is comfortable.

“I think next summer, but we haven’t had any time to talk about it so who knows!”

“That’s so exciting.” I smile as Brendan and the boys come back with our drinks. Brendan hands me a Sommersby. “Thanks Bren.” I kiss his cheek as he takes his seat beside me, resting his arm on the back of my chair.

“What about you guys?” Dara smiles and raises her eyebrows at Brendan and I.

“What about us…?” Brendan asks confused.

“Have you guys talked about marriage?” Dara asks.

Brendan spits out his beer, all over Mark. I laugh lightly wiping the table down before handing Mark a napkin.

“I think thats your answer babe.” Mark tells Dara scowling at Brendan as Brendan is beat red.

“Sorry.” Brendan mumbles at Mark. “I guess that question came to me as a surprise. But we haven’t really talked about marriage, we only have been dating for five months.”

I am a little disappointed in Brendan’s answer. I know I shouldn’t be because Brendan and I have only been dating for five months but I guess I wanted him to stay he wants to spend his life with me. I don’t want to be married to Brendan right now but it would have been nice to have some reassurance on the topic of us.

“Good answer.” I say to Brendan with a forced smile, hoping he doesn’t see right through my smile.
