Champion Mistake

"So when did you decide to go compete?" I ask as I watch my fiance pack. Sidney and I have been together for nearly four years before he popped the question. I won't say it has been an easy ride for us but it was worth it. He asked me on the last day of school; I teach fourth grade. He had asked the students to help him make letters on paper and spell out his wish. I swear I almost passed out but I settled for crying as he slipped the vintage styled ring on my left ring finger.

"Uh, it was kind of short notice, babe," Sidney states, packing dress shoes at the bottom of his suitcase. I toy with the ring on my finger while I stare intently at Sidney, awaiting more explanation. We were supposed to travel after school got out and when the season ended. Now that doesn't look like that will happen.

"They asked me and I said sure. What was I supposed to do? It's my duty to my country," he chuckles. I roll my eyes and lie back on the bed, running my hands through my black hair. Sidney finished grabbing thing out of our obscenely large closet and places them on the bed. He comes and sits on the edge of the bed.

"I know you're mad and I know we had plans and we can still do them. I'm just itching to play; I hate how fast we got out of the playoffs and I know I can help Team Canada bring home gold." Sidney grabs my right hand in his, gently rubbing the back of my hand before he raises it to his lips.

"I am. And you're not even bringing me with you," I huff. Not like I wanted to go to the Czech Republic or anything. Luckily for him, I have to teach summer school so screw him.

"You can't come anyway! You have to teach summer school," he says laughing.

"It's not funny and it isn't like it's for the whole summer; they shortened it to a month and a half since not that many students need summer school, thank God."

"See?" Sidney says as he gets off the bed to resume his packing.

"I hate it when you leave though," I whisper. I really do hate it when he leaves. I know it's childish but I want to be with him all the time sometimes. I can't breathe without him and being without him for a month will drive me crazy.

"I know, I'm going to feel like shit a few days after I get there... I'll Facetime you every day."

"Ha! You know how to use that thing?" One thing Sidney is not good at is technology. I always tease him that he is an old man. He says probably, that is why I am with him. I do have a thing for older men anyway.

"Yes," Sidney says indignantely. "I can manage it. I do like the iPhone though."

"Maybe I'll send you nudes," I wink at him, getting on all fours on the bed. I crawl to him and look up at him in what I hope is a seductive look. By the look on his face, it is.

"That would be ideal."

"I have an idea," I say sitting on my haunches. We've done what I'm thinking before but it has only been out of adventure and necessity. "How about, I give you a hall pass."

"A hall pass? Why?"

"A month without me? You're bound to get horny. So I'm giving you a hall pass; one girl, one time. I, of course, won't need it." Sidney steps back and crosses his arms.

"Really? I don;t know what to say to that." I know the idea is crazy but I know my husband; he's not a cheater or anything but like myself, he has a high drive that needs to be blown off at least once.

"Okay fine, you don't need one. If you want to use it cool, just tell me. If you don't use it, fine."
Sidney stares back at me like I'm crazy. He sighs and throws his head back.

"You, my love, are crazy," Sidney proclaims when he comes back to his senses. "I'll keep it in the back of my mind. But for now," he gently pushes me back on the bed, slowly lowering himself above me. My heart beats as fast as it did the first time we were in this position.

"I don't need a hall pass. I need you before I leave you for a month," he grins.

"Good, let's keep it that way," I practically growl when I pull him to my lips.
