Chapter 4

Normal P.O.V.

A few hours later I was dressed and waiting for Tyler. I wasn’t sure what kind of place we were going to, so I decided on a simple tank top, jeans and my Vans, my hair down, and the only makeup being what was covering the beast on my eye, and this time I elected to wear my glasses. I didn’t look super fancy, but I didn’t look like a hobo either. I didn’t show a lot of cleavage, and believe me I had a lot, but I didn’t show not show any either, if that makes any sense at all. When there was a knock on the door, I answered it almost immediately. “Hey Superstar,” I said with a smile, letting Tyler inside. He looked good; he wore jeans and a nice v-neck, a baseball cap noticeably absent from his head. “I don’t know where we’re going, am I dressed okay?” I asked, even though I had no intention of changing my clothes.

“Hey Jean,” Tyler replied. “And you look great. Ready to go?” he asked.

I nodded. “Bye guys!” I shouted into the house. “We’ll be back in a little bit!” I then looped my arm through Tyler’s waiting elbow and he walked me to his car. “Holy shit,” I said as we approached; we were taking his Maserati. “Am I allowed to touch it?” I joked as I approached the car slowly.

“Yes, you’re allowed to touch it. Just don’t breathe on it wrong or anything else,” he replied, catching on to my sarcasm as he opened my door for me. “And Superstar? What’s with that?” he asked.

I shrugged. “It’s my nickname for you. Got a problem with it?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at him and trying to be serious.

He chuckled and shook his head. “No, I don’t have a problem with it, Shorty,” he replied, giving me a sideways smirk. I just gave him a look. “Got a problem with my nickname for you?” he asked.

I shrugged. “It’s not very original, but no, I guess I don’t have a problem with it. It is true after all,” I replied with a chuckle.

It was maybe a ten minute drive to the restaurant; we didn’t go downtown, and I was surprised when Tyler pulled into the parking lot of a cute little diner. I just gave him a look. “What?” he asked as he turned off the car and got out. I did the same.

“Nothing, nothing at all,” I chuckled as we headed inside. It was actually pretty empty inside, so we were seated almost immediately in a booth toward the back. I chuckled again as I looked around the place.

“Seriously, what?” Now I had him chuckling. “Is there something on my face? In my teeth?” he asked, and I shook my head. “Then what’s so funny?”

I sighed and shook my head. “I just never envisioned myself in a diner, in Dallas, having dinner with Tyler Seguin. It was never part of the plan, that’s all,” I replied lightly, giving him a small smile. “Things like this don’t usually happen to girls like me,” I added.

There was a pause in the conversation when our waitress came and took our orders. Once she was gone, Tyler asked, “what do you mean, girls like you?”

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “Oh please. Don’t give me that bullshit. You know exactly what I mean,” I replied, taking a chug of my water. I was starting to sound a little mean, but I had to get my point across one way or the other.

“No, actually, I don’t,” he replied, sounding hurt with a confused look on his face. I sighed; maybe I should lighten up a little bit.

I took a moment, thinking about how I wanted to phrase what I wanted to say. “Tyler, you’re a great guy,” I started, giving him a small smile, “But you and me,” I motioned between the two of us, “could never work.” He just stared blankly at me. “I know you have a thing for me. I could tell after you saved me from Tommy,” I added.

“What do you mean we could never work?” he asked. “Do you not like me or something?”

I sighed for what seemed to be the hundredth time that night. “It’s not that I don’t like you, Tyler. I think you’re a really sweet, attractive guy. Any girl would be lucky to have you.” We paused again as our waitress brought our food, and we dug in for a few minutes before I continued. “I’m just being realistic here. After this weekend, I go home, and you stay here. And then you go wherever the fuck you go for the summer, and I’m not going to be able to afford to visit you. It just doesn’t make sense to start anything super serious. I think it would be easier on both of us if we had a long distance friendship, not a long distance relationship. Know what I mean?” I asked.

He nodded solemnly. “Yeah, I do get what you’re saying, and I agree. But, in all honesty, I don’t think that’s the only reason you’re saying all this,” he replied, practically staring right through me.

“Yeah, you’re right,” I replied. “That’s not the only reason I’m saying all this. It’s also because guys like you don’t end up with girls like me,” I said, giving him the same stare down he was giving me. He just stared right back at me, so I continued. “I’m unlike any girl you’ve ever dealt with before, Tyler.”

“How so?” he challenged. “I’ve dealt with beautiful girls before.”

I scoffed. “Let’s see. Well, I’m not a twig; I have meat on my bones and I’ll never have a “thigh gap”, and you know why? Because cellulite is a bitch, my friend. And, right now, I’m hella bloated from a certain female issue. I don’t like to party; my idea of a party is a night in having a Lord of the Rings and Hobbit marathon with pizza and junk food. I love comic books and video games, I listen to heavy metal music. I can be pretty fucking obnoxious once I get comfortable with someone. Basically I’m a nerd, and you deserve to be with someone more…you’re speed, I guess. I’m going to assume that Tweedle-Dumb and Tweedle-Dumber told you the rest of the story with Tommy?” I asked, and he nodded. “Well there you go, another pathetic thing about me.”

He shook his head. “I don’t care that you haven’t slept with anyone; it’s your choice. I totally get it; you want your first time to be special. That’s not pathetic; that’s admirable, actually,” he chuckled. I grimaced a little and looked down. “No, seriously, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.” I gave him a small smile; curse him and his charm. “And I want you to know that, although I bet you hope it did, none of what you just told me is going to deter me from going after you; I’m not gonna stop hitting on you until you like me,” he chuckled.

I laughed. “Of course you’re not,” I replied. “I just hope you’re ready for constant rejection in that way.”

He chuckled and held his hands up in defense. “Hey, as long as you keep me around as a friend, it’s all good. I think you’re a really cool person, and I would love to see what you consider to be obnoxious; that could be pretty fun and hilarious,” he replied, and with that we finished eating. Once we were finished eating, our waitress brought over the check. I immediately reached for it, only to have my hand swatted away. “Ah ah ah,” he said, pulling it away from me. “I got this.”

I shook my head and lunged for it. “No, you’re not paying for me. I can pay for myself; I’m a big girl,” I replied as he swatted my hand away again. “Seriously!’

“Seriously, I got it. Just the fact that you tried to pay is enough for me,” he said, slipping some cash into the little folder that held the check. “Keep the change,” he said as he handed the check to the waitress before standing up. “Ready to head out?” he asked.

I nodded and stood up, following him out of the diner. He opened my door for me and I gave him a look, which he responded to with a cheeky smirk. I just shook my head and got in, and he did the same after he shut my door. “Thank you, I had a nice time,” I said as he drove.

“Any time, I had a good time too,” he replied with a smile.

“So you’re really gonna keep coming after me?” I asked with a skeptical look on my face as he pulled up onto the driveway of my house. “Seriously?”

“Seriously,” he replied, a cheeky smirk on his face. “I’d be crazy to let someone like you go without a fight. And I guarantee, one day I’ll be saying I told you so when you finally fall for me,” he said as he shut off the car and we both got out.

My door was barely closed when Nicole and Amanda came bolting out of the house towards me. “Whoa, where’s the fire?” I asked as they rushed over to me and Tyler stood next to me.

“Remember earlier today when we went to the store?” Amanda asked. I nodded, and the smile on her face grew, if that were even possible. “Well, that wasn’t actually the only place we went,” she squealed.

Nicole must have sensed that Amanda was too excited to spit it out, so she took over. “We also went to your uncle’s house, and picked up this,” she said excitedly, handing me an envelope. He said that this was your belated Christmas present, and that he’s going with you,” she added as I took the envelope from her.

“Well that could mean any number of things,” I chuckled as I opened the envelope. I was speechless when I saw what was in the envelope, and I screamed at the top of my lungs in excitement. “IT’S A WRESTLEMANIA TICKET!” I screamed, jumping up and down uncontrollably. “Holy fucking shit, it’s a ringside ticket! We’re in the first row!” I continued to scream, only a little bit less because my voice was already strained from the initial scream at the sight of the ticket. “This cost him a fortune,” I mumbled as I fell to my knees, hand covering my mouth in shock.

“So you like wrestling?” Tyler asked, partially sarcastically, as I stood back up. I just gave him a look like he must be kidding. “Judging by that reaction, I’ll take that as a yes,” he chuckled. “Anyway, I should get home, I need to let my dogs out and take care of some stuff before I go to bed. Goodnight Amanda, Nicole; have a great time at WrestleMania tomorrow Jean,” he continued as he backed up to his car and opened the door. “I don’t know if I’ll see you guys again before you leave, so make sure you come say goodbye,” he finished with a small smile before getting into his car and backing out of our driveway and onto his.

I watched him go and waved as he walked into his house before turning back to the girls. “You know, it’s not that late. We could watch some movies or something,” I suggested. “There’s a projector and screen in the basement; we could bring them out here and watch movies out here on the lawn,” I added.

“Oooh yeah! We could go put on our pajamas first and get all comfortable and have like a marathon!” Amanda agreed, and so we all rushed into the house to put on our pajamas, grab some blankets and bring the projector and screen outside.

I was the first one out, wearing my Batman pajama pants, a sports bra and a seriously cutoff Bullet For My Valentine shirt, and I took off the makeup I was wearing, revealing my awesomely black eye again. After I put my blanket and pillow on my chair, I went back inside to grab the projector as Amanda and Nicole were coming out with the screen.

After we had everything set up Amanda asked, “So, what do you guys want to watch first?”

Me and Nicole exchanged looks before saying at the same time, “Deadpool.” We both burst out laughing as I went to go grab the movie and make some popcorn. I then came back out and put the movie in, and Nicole and I were quoting along with almost half the movie, earning some dirty looks and laughs from Amanda.
