We've Got This

Chapter 5

Monday Night

WrestleMania last night was probably the best night of my life, so far at least. I even managed to somehow get a picture with my favorite women, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. I was amazed that I even still had a voice by the end of the show; so many exciting and unexpected things happened, my favorite being Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, and Stone Cold Steve Austin showing up.

I didn’t get back to the house until almost midnight, and I was so tired that all I could do was take out my contacts before I passed out on my bed, still in my clothes. Luckily for me, Amanda and Nicole had already begun to clean up the house while I was gone.

We had spent all day continuing to clean up the house really well, because other people were renting it as soon as we left; it had to be spotless, like it was when we got here. We were practically done by dinner time; all we had left were our rooms, and we could wait until we were all packed up to take care of that.

Now it was Monday Night, and Amanda and Nicole had gone out to dinner. I didn’t go because I left them to go to WrestleMania last night, and they told me that they just stayed in while I was gone. I practically pushed them out the door; I wanted to just relax and watch Monday Night Raw. And that’s exactly what I did. I ate dinner, took a shower, put on my Sons of Anarchy boxers, sports bra, and cutoff BFMV shirt, poured myself a glass of wine, and plopped on the couch to watch the show.

However, my laziness was interrupted an hour into Monday Night Raw when the doorbell rang. “What the fuck,” I huffed and stood up, pausing the show, and with wine still in hand headed to the door. To say I was surprised when I opened the door was an understatement, but right away I realized why they were here. When I opened the door, I was faced with three super tall hockey players. “Cody Eakin, Jason Demers, and Jamie Benn. What the hell, come on in,” I said, taking a sip of my wine before retreating back into the house. “Go ahead and make yourselves comfortable; just let me get this towel off my head,” I added as I put my wine glass down and headed into the bathroom.

When I got back into the living room a few minutes later, the three of them were still standing, but they were in the living room. “Guys, you’re making me nervous. Please, sit down,” I said, plopping myself back down on the couch and flipping my hair out of my place.

They shrugged and all sat down on the floor, staring up at me. “You seem very chill with us being here,” Jason started. “Usually people kinda freak out.”

I chuckled and rolled my eyes. “I had a feeling some of you would show up eventually. Let me guess; Seguin told you guys about me, and you wanted to see the train wreck for yourselves?” I guessed, knowing I was right. “And don’t worry, I’m freaking out on the inside,” I added with a chuckle. “But seriously, Seguin told you all about me, didn’t he?” I asked, expecting the worst.

Jamie shrugged. “What do you mean by train wreck? All he told us was that he met the beautiful girl from Chicago that’s staying across the street from him that has a psychotic ex-boyfriend. That’s all we really need to know at this point,” he replied, and I nodded.

“That’s really all he told you?” I asked, and they nodded. “Huh, I thought he would be the gossiping type for some reason,” I added, more to myself than to them. “But anyway, to what do I owe the pleasure of your company? Did you guys really just come to get a look at me?” I asked.

“Well, Segs can’t seem to stop talking about you,” Cody chuckled, “so we figured that there must be something special about you. “And he was right; you are beautiful.” I rolled my eyes at that, and they all noticed. “No, seriously, you are beautiful. You have that natural beauty that is a really rare find these days; you’re unique. I can see why he’s so drawn to you.”

I sighed. “Well, that’s very sweet of you to say, Cody, but I still don’t see what makes me such hot shit. I’m more of a hot mess,” I chuckled. “But in all seriousness, I leave tomorrow, so there’s really no chance of anything serious happening between the two of us,” I added.

“Is that what you think, or is that what you want?” Jamie asked. “Because I can already tell that Segs wants to give you guys a shot.”

“I mean, he’s really sweet and I do like him, don’t get me wrong; I’ve had a stupid fangirl crush on him his entire career. It’s just that we would never see each other, so why bother. It would be way too difficult to even be worth it,” I replied. “He might be a fan of the long distance relationship, but I’m not.”

“Fair enough,” Jamie replied. “But trust us, he’ll get to you. Anyway,” he continued the three of them stood up,” we just wanted to meet you and give you our numbers…and get yours.” I chuckled at that. “Segs can be a bit much at times, and we wanted you to know that you can always text or call us if he ever gets to be too much. Or if you just want to talk,” he said, handing me his phone. I picked up mine and gave it to him, and we played a little game of pass the phones.

Shortly after, the three guys made their way to the door, but not before Jamie turned to me again. “Oh, and Segs wanted me to remind you to stop and say goodbye before your flight tomorrow. And send us a text when your plane lands and you get home, we already like you and want to make sure you make it okay,” he said, and I nodded as they turned and left before I closed the door behind me.

I spent the rest of the night watching wrestling and drinking wine before heading to bed when Amanda and Nicole got back. The next morning we were all up bright and early, cleaning up our rooms and the rest of the house before our flight at 11am. I was surprisingly well-rested; I dreamt about Tyler for most of the night, and I guess they were all good dreams, because I woke up feeling great.

We were all packed, cleaned, and ready to go a bit earlier than we expected, so we just decided to chill in the living room. I didn’t decide to get dressed until after we were all cleaned up, and I just threw on jean shorts, a sports bra, and my Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza tank top. “Hey Nicole, want to French braid my hair for me?” I asked as I sat down on the floor in front of her; she was sitting on the couch watching TV.

She just looked down at me. “Why would I do that? You can do it better on yourself without a mirror than I can do for you,” she replied.

I chuckled. “Because I don’t want to do it myself, and I asked you nicely,” I replied, holding up my hairbrush for her to grab from me. She just laughed and gave my head a smack, but took the brush and go to work. “Thanks Nicole!” I shouted in thanks, earning another laugh from her and Amanda as well. She ended up yanking my hair a few times, on purpose of course, but the braid actually turned out pretty well, for her anyways. Though of course I didn’t say that to her; I was just thankful she actually did my hair for me.

It wasn’t until about ten minutes before we had to leave that I remembered I needed to say goodbye to Tyler. “Fuck!” I shouted, jumping up and rushing to the door. Both Amanda and Nicole looked at me like I had two heads, but knew I would tell them what was wrong, so they didn’t even ask. “I forgot to say bye to Tyler!” I continued as I rushed out the door and across the street.

My heart was racing, for some reason, as I approached his front door. Tyler had grown on me in these few days I’d known him, and I was definitely going to miss him. Before I even had a chance to knock, the door swung open. “You forgot, didn’t you?” he chuckled as he joined me outside. “Or did you just not want to say goodbye?” he added.

“I honest to God forgot,” I replied. “Did you not see me rush across the street just now?” I added, chuckling. “But seriously, I also wanted to thank you, for everything, especially for saving me from Tommy. I honestly don’t know what would have happened if you didn’t follow me home like some creepy stalker,” I chuckled. “I had a great time hanging out with you, getting dinner with you, and just plain getting to know you. I’m glad you decided to talk to me at that bar after the game,” I said with a smile, and he smiled back.

“I’m glad I had the balls to actually approach you at that bar,” he chuckled in response. “I had a great time getting to know you as well. I’m actually really gonna miss you, Jean. I a way, you kind of opened my eyes to a new way of life.”

That puzzled me. “Oh? How so?” I asked.

“Well, you showed me that you don’t need to have tons of company, or alcohol, to have a good time. Your definition of fun actually sounds a lot easier than mine used to be,” he laughed.

I blushed a little, hoping he didn’t see it. “That’s good to hear; maybe I won’t be hearing about your shenanigans on ESPN and the internet anymore,” I chuckled. I then took a look at my watch and frowned. “Fuck, I’m sorry, but I need to cut this goodbye short; our flight leaves in an hour and a half and we need to head out,” I said, pulling a little piece of paper out of my pocket and handed it to him. “Give me a shout the next time you’re up in the Chicago area, yeah?” I said as he took it and looked at it.

“Jean Kitsalis,” he read, and then his eyes lit up. “And I finally have your number!” he exclaimed and I laughed as I turned to leave. “Wait a minute,” he said, grabbing my hand. Before I could even register what was happening, he spun me back around and crashed his lips onto mine in a quick kiss. “Wow,” he breathed when we broke apart; he must have felt the same spark I felt.

“Wow is right,” I breathed. “But this doesn’t change anything between us,” I said, trying to sound at least a little convincing, even though I knew it would now be impossible to keep the stance I had all weekend. I knew, just from that kiss, that there was something between Tyler and I; the sparks were undeniable. I just had to remember that he would be staying down here and going up to Toronto, and I would still be in the Chicago area. No matter how hard I wished against it, nothing was going to happen between me and Tyler Seguin. “And yes, you finally have my number. It’s the least I could do; I got Eakin’s, Demers’s and Benn’s numbers last night,” I chuckled, and he rolled his eyes. “But seriously, I really have to go now. I’ll miss you; give me a shout when you come up to Chicago,” I said, pulling him into a quick hug. “Bye Tyler!” I shouted as I turned and ran back across the street. Amanda and Nicole were waiting for me in front of the car.

The drive to the airport was mostly silent; Nicole really only said one thing: “You’re gonna miss him, aren’t you?” she asked me.

I sighed and nodded, keeping my eyes on the road. “You have no idea.”
