Look up and get lost in the Stars

4.

“Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars" - J.R.R Tolkien

I picked up my ringing phone with a smile. Jamie was calling me right after their 4-1 victory over the Penguins.

"Hey Hockey Star," I said grinning when I picked it up.

He laughed on the other end, "So you watched it then, eh?"

"Of course," I said turning down the T.V volume from my bed, "I watched all of them."

"Well look at that," he said playfully, "you're my little lucky charm."

I laughed, "I don't know about that, y'all played pretty damn well. Niemi killed it tonight."

"Yeah," Jamie sighed, "he was our lifesaver."

"You played really well tonight too, Benny."

He scoffed, making me smile, "I didn't score tonight though."

I shrugged, "Doesn’t mean you didn't play well. You gave it your all, you always do."

"Just a second," he said quickly.

I heard very muffled movements in the background, a door opening and then people talking.

"Hello?" someone other than Jamie said on the other line.

"Hello?" I asked back.

"The infamous Josie that has kept Chubbs in his hotel room all during the last few days!" I could tell right then that it was Tyler Seguin.

"The infamous Tyler Seguin, the Boston Bad Boy!" I said back to him. I needed him to know I could dish it out if need be.

He was silent but then I heard him laugh, "What the fuck?" he said still laughing.

I began laughing on my end, "What do you mean? I should be saying that to you!"

"I love you already, Josie. You have all of my approval, I'll see you at the wedding!" he said before I heard Jamie say something in the background to him.

I was laughing and shaking my head. What a weirdo, I thought with a smile. I heard a door slam and Jamie huffed.

"Sorry about him," he said, a little irritated.

"It was funny, it's all good!" I told him.

He sighed, "He can be a little...I dunno, out there sometimes."

"Its fine, Jamie, honestly," I said softly, hopefully to ease his mind.

"So what are we gonna do when I come back?" he asked with what sounded like maybe a smile.

"I don't know," I mused, "whatever you want to do."

"Well," he started, "I thought maybe we could hang out at my house, we don't have a game tomorrow so we could hang out at night?"

I felt myself go bright red at the thought of hanging out with Jamie at his place. Just the two of us.

"That'd be nice," I said with a small smile, "I finish work at 4:30 so just let me know when you'd want to do something."

"I'd be done practice by then," he said quickly, "you could come right from work if you wanted to."

I laughed, "I'd need to go home and change Jamie! Re-do my makeup and all that shit."

"No way!" he said, laughing too, "just come to my house, and change into a pair of my sweatpants and shirt or something! You don't need makeup!"

"You'd be freaked out if I came over, washed my face and threw on some of your clothes," I told him.

"No I wouldn’t," he said back.

"Oh, we'll see, Jamie Benn."

---

I drove up the road past all of these fancy mansions and I couldn’t believe that Jamie, the Jamie that I had met, lived in one of these houses. But then I remembered that he was a multimillionaire hockey player and one of the prides of Dallas Texas. I listed as my GPS continued to direct me where to go.

It finally told me that I had arrived and I looked out of my driver’s side at the house and my jaw dropped. The house was fucking huge! He lived by himself he didn't need a house that big!

"Holy fuck," I muttered before turning into the driveway and stopping at the closed gate.

I leaned out the window and pressed the button for the speaker.

"Hello?" he asked.

"Hey, Benn, it's Josie!" I told him.

He came back on laughing, "Come on in!" he said before the gate moved suddenly opening slowly.

I drove into the circular driveway and pulled up next to one of his fancy sports cars and parked. I got out of my car and opened my backdoor; taking out my purse and bag that I brought so I could change into comfy clothes.

I locked up my car and walked up to his front door, he opened it up as I walked up to it and leaned against the open door.

"There she is!" he said smiling at me.

"Here I am," I said back to him, matching his smile.

I walked quickly to him and smiled up at him, "Welcome back," I told him.

"Thank-you! Come on in!" he said leading me into his house; he closed the door behind us.

I was trying to take everything in, the beautiful marble flooring, the grand spiral staircase; the space seemed to go on forever.

"Do you have the whole team living with you or something?" I teased as I slipped off my high heels and as soon as my feet hit the floor they were warm, "And you have heated floors?!"

He laughed and started walking towards what I assumed was the kitchen, I followed him.

"No, they all don't live with me, but sometimes they like to crash here and in case my family ever comes down I need room for all of them. And yes, heated floors! My feet hurt sometimes after games."

"Fair enough," I told him, looking around his kitchen, "this is beautiful Jamie, honestly, it's a gorgeous house."

He was smiling when I looked at him, "Thank-you! I really appreciate that."

"So," I began as I leaned against the island in the middle of his granite and dark hardwood kitchen, "where can I change?" I asked, holding up my bag.

He looked at me and laughed, "You brought your own stuff? What, you wouldn’t want to wear a pair of Dallas Stars sweatpants?"

I smiled widely at him, "That would be awesome! But we've only hung out twice before; I still need to look semi-presentable!"

"Hey, that's presentable, I wear those to meetings!" he said laughing, causing me to laugh.

"You're meetings are with the Stars, ya dork," I said grinning.

He smiled and shook his head, "Come on, I'll take you to the washroom," he said as he walked by me.

I followed him down a different hall a little away from the kitchen; I kept looking quickly at the photos. I was pretty sure I saw some of his families, and a couple from his and Jordie's drafts.

"Here," he said, stopping in front of a closed door.

"Thanks," I smiled, opening the door, "I'll just be a second," I said before walking in and closing the door quickly behind me.

I turned the light on and was met with a huge bathroom with white marble counter, two sinks and you could just tell things were top of the line.

I changed quickly and went back out, where Jamie was leaning against the wall across from the door, looking down at his phone with an irritated expression while his fingers moved rapidly, probably typing out a message.

"Seggy bothering you?" I asked with a small as I shut the door quietly behind me.

He looked up at me quickly and his irritated face melted into a happy face as he blindly locked his phone and shoved it in the pocket of his Dallas Stars sweatpants.

"Yeah, no, it's nothing important," he told me, "Well don't you look all comfy and shit," he said smiling.

I looked down at myself and laughed a little. I was wearing plain black leggings and a baggy dark purple long sleeve shirt and some fuzzy socks, "What can I say?" I shrugged, "I'm adorable, but also lazy."

"You haven't seen lazy till you've seen Tyler," Jamie told me.

I shook my head, "I'll have to see about that," I smiled.

He smiled back at me. We were silent for a few seconds until his phone went off signaling a message, he rolled his eyes and took it out of his pocket. He looked at it quickly before sighing and putting it back into his pocket once again.

"You could answer that if you need to," I told him.

He shook his head, "No no, it's no one important," he told me, brushing it off, "come on," he said moving from the wall, "let's go downstairs and find something to watch."

I nodded and followed him as he led me down the hall a little further. He stopped a couple feet away from me and touched the wall; once I made it to where he was I felt my eyes bug out.

"An elevator?" I cried, "You have a freakin elevator, Jamie?"

He laughed as the door opened and he stepped in, with me right after him.

"You don't?" he asked cheekily.

I stuck my tongue out at him, "I have one in the hallway, yes," I said sassily as we started going down.

He laughed as the door opened right into his rec room, which was basically a movie theatre.

"You just casually watch movie does here?" I asked him, as I stepped out of the elevator.

He laughed from behind me, "It's just my house, Josie! I do live here!"

"Yeah but...shit, it's fancy!" I said, looking around the room, he had a few rows of black leather plush recliner chairs, and a large screen was on the wall facing the seats.

"If you look me in the eyes and tell me that you guys don't use this place and play some Mario Kart or something I'll be disappointed in you forever."

He doubled over laughing while I looked at him with a small smile. I watched how his nose crinkled up while he laughed. How his face got red while he laughed hard. How big his smile was. How his hair fell in his face when it wasn't all gelled back like it usually was. I took in how musical his laugh sounded to me. Like, if someone recorded it, I would probably listen to it for hours.

He finally composed himself and smiled at me, "Oh trust me, we play a lot of video games down here!"

I smiled at him, "Okay good, you don't make me sad then."

"I'm happy then," he said, "pick whatever movie you want, and then tell me what you want on your pizza!"

"I eat anything, Jamie!" I told him, walking over to his shelves of movies, "Aren't you on your hockey player meal plans? You know liquid egg whites and avocados?"

He laughed, "Technically, yes! But we just won't tell my trainers and we'll be set!"

I smirked as I looked over the movies in front of me, "Oh, I'mma tell em."

"Sure you are," he said sarcastically, making my giggle, "Chicken, bacon and extra cheese good for you?" he asked.

I nodded and grabbed Batman Returns from his shelf, "Yeah that's good with me," I said, as I spun to face him, while continuing to read the back of the DVD case.

I looked up after a few seconds of silence and saw him looking at me, making me feel self-conscious.

"What's up?" I asked him, tucking some hair behind my ear.

His eyes went wide a little and he shook his head, "No, nothing, honestly! I huh...you're beautiful."

I felt my face redden immediately, obviously, "Um, thank-you," I said awkwardly, which made him smile.

"You're welcome," he said walking to me, "I missed you, you know that?" he asked, when he stopped right in front of me.

I breathed out a small laugh and looked down, "Well I missed you a little too," I said looking back up at him.

I was staring up at him and without thinking I licked my lips as my eyes travelled all over his face, I felt him lean into me and I brought the movie up from my side, "Batman okay?" I asked, holding it up before he moved any closer to me.

He had a small smile on his face before looking down, "Yeah," he said stepping back, "yeah, I love that movie. I'll put it in," he said, reaching for it, he went over to the DVD player that was hooked up and started setting it up.

I let out a silent breath and shook my head while looking up. Was he gonna kiss me or was I just a delusional girl? To be honest I woulda let him kiss me, no question.

I walked over to the second row of seats and sat down in the middle just as Jamie turned around; he walked over to me and sat next to me.

"Ready?" he asked.

Yes.
