The Roommate

Thirteen

The kisses they shared last night were far more memorable than the drunken one’s from their house party a few days prior. After they shared their moment last night they went to their separate beds although neither of them wanted to go alone. The sensation of each other’s lips still tingled on theirs and they were collectively wishing they didn’t have to stop.

Sidney woke up fairly early to go workout with the trainer at the gym so he was long gone by the time Bri was up. She slowly got out of bed and in the kitchen to make herself breakfast. She was happy with where everything in her life was headed to an extent. She pulled up a seat at the island and typed an article on the failed date from two nights before, then began to write one on the feeling after her date last night with Sidney.

By the time she finished and sent in her first to her editor Sidney walked through the door with his hockey bag around his shoulder. “Look who decided to finally wake up,” he smiled, walking into the laundry room.

“I don’t wake up at 6 every day like some people,” she winked, taking a bite out of the bagel she made.

“Those aren’t very healthy you know,” he said, grabbing a gatorade out of the fridge.

“And those are?” He just laughed, closing the door and taking a drink.

“No comment,” he chuckled, taking another swig.

“Of course not, you have an endorsement deal with them, I get it.”

He leant on the opposite side of the island, unsure if he can kiss her or not. “What have you been up to all day besides lounging in your pj’s.”

“Just finished writing and submitted to my editor, now I wait. How was the gym?”
“Good, got my ass kicked in gear. I fly out tonight to go to Boston for tomorrow’s game, so I have to pack. I really don’t want to,” he hung his head with laziness. “Then I’m in New York to play the Rangers on Tuesday and I’m still on the road Wednesday”

“Oh, poor you,” she giggled. “I have to pack my bags too actually.”

“Where you going?”

“Buffalo, I leave tomorrow.”

“Why Buffalo?”

“Client stuff. I’ll be there until Wednesday.”

“I play there on Wednesday night. You should come to the game.”

“You think so? I have a late flight though, I have to be at the airport at a decent time.”

“Wait why are you flying to Buffalo from here? You could drive that.”

“Company is paying for flight and a hotel so I’ll take advantage. My cubicle mate and I are roomies actually.”

“Is she one of your few friends here?”

“Yup!” Bri responded proudly to that fact.

“Invite her too.”

“Sidney-no!”

“Why do you always call me Sidney? Sounds weird.”

“You never told me to call you anything else,” she winked.

He pointed at her and said, “touche!” while he walked out of the kitchen.

“Go pack your bags, Cindy!”

He popped his head from around the corner and shot her a pissed off look. She just giggled and cleaned up her stuff to go take a shower.

If you would have told her she’d be so comfortable to be braless and makeup free in front of Sidney Crosby she would have laughed in your face. Thing is, she forgets that he’s any different than any other person. Although the reality of him leaving for a few days really does upset her, especially after they started getting extremely comfortable with each other. Maybe this mini break could do them some good? Maybe she should go to his away game?

Saying goodbye was very hard this time around and neither of them wanted to do it. Sidney brought his suitcases by the front door and waited anxiously to decide if he was going to tell Bri he was leaving. He decided on letting her know so he went up to her room, knocking gently on her door.

“Come in!” she called.

He walked in to find her in her robe on her bed. “I’m getting ready to go, see you at the game?”

“You’re leaving now?” she frowned, getting off the bed and holding her arms around his neck. “I don’t want you to leave!” she accidentally said out loud.

“I have to go, I’m sorry,” he replied giving her a tight hug. He ponytail was all over the place and he thought it was the cutest thing. “You going to have a bath or something?”

“Yup, have to do it when I know you’re gone or you’ll walk in on me again!” she laughed.

“You know you liked it deep down,” he laughed. “See you at the game?”

“Of course. I’m sure Mia will like it.”

“Tickets are downstairs where I leave my keys, see you then.”

“Okay, have a safe flight and good luck!”

“Thanks, you too,” he smiled walking out.

They so badly wished they kissed at that moment.

**Fast Forward to Buffalo**

Bri fell on her bed in the hotel room exhausted. Mia did the same, letting out a big sigh. “That was one of the most exhausting meetings I’ve ever been in.”

“I can’t believe they flew us here for that,” Bri responded. “That was sort of a waste of our time when you really think of it.”

“I’m just enjoying the free stuff. The shoots yesterday were brutal and the meeting was far too long than it needed to be. And they didn’t even provide lunch.”

“I’m starving. Wait what time is it?”

“6:30, why?”

“Shit! We have tickets to the game!”

“The what?”

“The Buffalo Sabres game! We have to go before our flight!”

“Oh! I can’t go looking like this! I’m in a lady suit!”

“Well you have to, grab your bags and I’ll check out,” Bri said, leaping to grab her bags and leave the hotel room in a rush.

When they got in their rental car, that Mia had to drive since Bri legally can’t rent a car yet, they rushed to the arena that was a bit of a drive away. Thankfully Sid’s tickets came with underground parking where she could go. They scanned in and ran to their seats right in time for the National Anthem.

“How the hell did you get these tickets again?”

“My roommate.”

“You must be sucking his dick pretty good to get seats this close to the glass.”

Bri chuckled, “No, I’m not doing any of that, I can promise you.”

“Are you sure? Because we are three rows from the ice. They are literally perfect.”

“I promise,” she smiled.

“Hey, you’re even wearing Pittsburgh’s colours, good for you!”

Bri looked down and noticed her gold blouse she was wearing under her leather blazer. “The away team always needs support,” she smiled.

“They’re getting plenty of support! Everyone’s wearing Crosby jersey’s. I’m surprised you don’t have one to be honest.”

“Why do you say that?” she asked nervously.

“I don’t know. I know you like sports,” she shrugged. It always made Bri nervous to think about what she would think if Mia found out who her roommate actually was.

“Yeah, you’re right,” she smiled. Before you knew it Sidney came crashing into the boards right in front of the girls, causing them to jump in fear. “Speak of the devil.” Bri wondered if he noticed her in the crowd or not.

The truth is, Sidney did notice. And he thought she looked beautiful and extremely cute wearing gold and black for them. It was subtle how she managed to do it but it looked really non-noticeable. He was more than glad she was able to make it and had to light the scoreboard up for her.

And that he did on his next shift on the ice. The girls were so excited they almost threw their popcorn in the air. Sidney looked in her direction from a distance to see if she was staring and sure enough she was. It looks like he got himself a new good luck charm.

The game was pretty quick actioned, but the Sabres took the win 3-2 in overtime. The girls couldn’t even stay to watch the team thank the crowd because they needed to catch their flight. Yet again, they made it in the nick of time. Luckily for them the flight was short and they’d make it home before the team did.

Bri dropped Mia off at her place and drove back to her and Sidney’s. The house was cold and lonely when she entered it. Running up to her room she lit a vanilla candle immediately to help her relax after the whirlwind of a day she experienced. Grabbing a book she curled herself up in bed and got lost in the story, not even realizing Sidney was home.

“Hey, you up?” he asked.

She jumped at his question, “Yes! Sorry, I was distracted by this book,” she laughed. “Come in! You played a great game.”

“Thank you. Would have been nice to have the win but it was a lucky opportunity they had.” Sidney made his way over to her bed. She motioned for him to sit so he did, right at the end.

“Exactly, caught in Fleury's pad. Super unfortunate. How was your flight home?”

“Quiet. But now I can’t sleep.”

“Why?”

“Too much energy from the game. My adrenaline is always on a high after, especially if I have to take a plane.”
“It wasn’t even that long of a flight.”

“Still doesn’t change that,” he chuckled. He had something on his mind but didn’t want to ruin the opportunity and ask her about it so he thought he’d semi change the subject. “So I saw you supporting our team colours today.”

“You saw that!?” she blushed.

“You bet! You were so close to the glass.”

“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you noticed,” she covered her face. “I swear I didn’t do it on purpose!”

“You didn’t?” he raised an eyebrow, playing with her mind a bit.

“I did-I mean. We were late leaving our meeting and didn’t have time to change out of our meeting clothes so I showed up in my power suit and my shirt just so happened to be gold.”

“Mhm,” he smirked. “Sure.”

“You can ask Mia! She’ll tell you the same thing I did. Heck, she was ready to take a nap!”

“It’s fine, I believe you,” he chuckled. It was funny how he always managed to pull her leg and she was always unsure if he was joking or being serious.

She hung her head and asked, “Can I ask you something?”

“Of course,” he said in a serious tone to match hers.

“Remember when I was filming and you walked in on me in the kitchen?”

“Yeah, what about it?”

“Can I use that part in my video? I know you’re a private person but I wanted to ask for your consent actually.”

“Sure! I thought it was actually funny to be honest,” he chuckled. “Thank you for asking.”

“Thank you for accepting,” she smiled.

“I greatly appreciate you asking. But I’m starting to fade,” he said. “I’m off to bed, good night.”

“Good night,” she smiled sweetly. When he closed the door on his way out she pulled out her laptop and opened her editing software program. She found the video she was looking for and pressed “upload”. She smiled when it finally made it’s way up and decided she could rest peacefully not that it was up.
