The Roommate

Sidney woke up like it was any other day and went straight to practice and the gym for training. Bri woke up to hundreds of comments on her video, as well as new subscribers and new followers on social media.

“Huh,” she said out loud, checking her new feedback carefully. “You know Sidney Crosby and look how much publicity you get.”

Shocked by the drastic incline or popularity she texted Mia to call her. Within seconds she called.

“I’m pulling off my face mask, what happened?”

“Did you see my new video on my personal blog?”

“No, why?”

“Just pull it up and check the comments.”

There was a pause in conversation. “Sidney Crosby? How the hell did you get him in the video? Wait, he’s in your video!? What the hell! Bri!”

She just laughed. “Do you know who my roommate is now?”

“You live with Sidney Crosby?”

“Guilty.”

“Why the hell do you keep so many secrets?”

“You don’t know the half of them,” she sighed. “Do you wanna go for breakfast so we can talk about it? I think I owe you an explanation.”

“You’re damn right about that. Michael’s?”

“See you there at 9:30?”

“It’s a date. Peace out!”

“Bye Mia,” Bri laughed, hanging up and shaking her head while biting her lip. She knew this would be the reaction when she found out.

Naturally she got ready for her day and went out the door to meet Mia for breakfast. She grabbed them a table and patiently waited for her arrival. How much should she tell her? Is it too soon to? She had been living with him for two months now, it’s about time she should.

“Hello Mrs. Crosby!” she chimed.

“Will you shut up!? I don’t want people making assumptions!”

“What, you’re afraid someone will notice?”

“Yeah. Do you know how many people have been looking at my social media feeds because of that video?”

“I could only imagine. People would presume you’re dating. Are you?”

“No! Of course not! We’re roommates and nothing more. What else can I say to that?”

“That you’re banging?” she smirked, sipping her coffee that was just placed in front of her.

Bri laughed, “We are not banging, I swear.”

“Do you want to?”

“Oh my Gosh yes!” she sighed in her chair. “Do you know how hard it is to resist him? I mean we’ve seen each other naked and-”

“You’ve seen him naked!?”

“Topless and close to no pants! He’s seen me naked though.”

“Hold up. What!?”

“I was in the bath and-” she stuttered.

“He joined you and you guys bathed together in a bath tub full of sex and passion!?”

“No! He just walked in on me.”

“You need to get laid.”

“I needed to get that off my chest. I haven’t told anyone, not even my parents yet. I can’t trust anyone about this situation so you have to keep this quiet. I mean it.”

“I promise I’ll keep it quiet,” she smiled.

“Thank you.”

“But you can thank him for the tickets, and ask him for more because that was so much fun!”

“I’ll see what I can do,” Bri winked, laughing.

Meanwhile Sidney was getting stretched out by the athletic trainers and having a serious conversation with Marc-Andre. He always trusted him and they had a close personal bond. He would have preferred to Pascal Dupuis but he was injured, so Flower was the next best thing.

“How’s Bri doing since her big debut at the gala?”

“She’s good. Still shocked that she went and got honored and mentioned and all that stuff.”

“She did a great job. I’m surprised at how well she handled going to the event and being left alone for a while to mingle. She did a great job at holding her own.”

“I had no doubt in my mind she’d do that good. She knows how to network.”

“I heard she put you in a video last night,” he winked. “A naughty one.”

Sid laughed, “it wasn’t a bad one. But yeah, she asked me about it last night and I gave her the go ahead.”

“I was shocked when I heard. You never get into that stuff.”

“How’d you find out?”

“Ask Beau. He told everyone while you were getting your skates sharpened.”

He shook his head. “What a guy.”

“Do you like her?”

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a bit of a crush on her. She’s perfect in my eyes, and she only gets better the more I find out.”

“I could tell you had a thing for her. I saw how you were with her. You don’t get that way often.”

“What can I say? I’m easily readable once you know me.”

“You guys talking about the birthday girl?” Kris Letang asked, walking in and hopping on a massage table to be worked like the other two.

“Birthday girl?” Sidney asked.

“Her birthday is friday. How didn’t you know?”

“I knew it was soon but not that soon.”

“What are you going to do on her birthday?”

“Well I don’t know what she has planned.”

“Make your move!” Flower practically yelled. “Birthdays are the perfect time to show her how you feel!”

“What am I going to possibly do within that short of notice?”

“You’re so not a romantic person Sid. You need all the help you can get,” Tanger laughed. “We’ll help you come up with a game plan.”

“How did you find out her birthday?”

“Do you not creep her social media?” Tanger joked. “You can find out so much from creeping.”

“Sid’s old school, remember?” Flower laughed.

“You’re one to talk Flower,” Sid laughed.

“V’s been changing me, trust me.”

“Did you hear our wives are making a new clothing line together?” Tanger asked.

“Oh no way man, that’s so cool.”

“So expect for an invite to the launch.”

“I most certainly will,” he sighed. Worry started flushing over his body. What could he possibly do for her birthday? He’s not good with surprises and has a hard time reading people, he knows that. Now he really has to think. The guys are going to have to help him with this one.

The group of them decided to go to the Fleury’s home to discuss a game plan of how to surprise Bri. It worked out even better that Vero was home so she could help give them a female's input. Plus she was quite fond of Bri and knew Sid needed all the help he could get. But let’s be real, all the boys really appreciated her help, they were even nervous for themselves.

Sidney came home much later than anticipated and came home to find Bri typing away in his bay window of his home. “We have chairs and couches and stuff you know that right?”

“I know. But the rain was so peaceful I couldn’t help but be close to it.”

“You have a thing for rain don’t you?” he asked, taking a seat on the arm chair closest to the bay window Bri was sprawled over.

“What makes you say that?”

“Because even at the gala you loved the fact it was raining and was so fascinated by the weather.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m a summer girl 100% and I love the sunshine. But there is something about rain in the fall that I absolutely adore. The colours pop more, the dampness in the air makes you want to curl up and snuggle, the sound is soothing… It’s just peaceful to me and brings me closer to nature. I love that. Brings me back to my childhood at the cottage.”

“You guys had a cottage eh?”

“Yeah, it was a place my dad could escape to in the off season to feel at peace.”

“I’m like that with my place back home. I love it. I’m on the water, I can fish whenever I want, no one knows where I am and I can spend hours doing nothing in my yard or on my boat.”

“You clearly enjoy the outdoors,” she smiled.

“I do. I was raised in a rink and in the great outdoors.”

“And on the pond,” she pointed.

“And how do you know about my path missy?”

“Kind of general knowledge if you grew up in Nova Scotia.”

“You’re very sassy tonight aren’t you?”

“Had breakfast with Mia this morning. That’s why,” she laughed.

“And how was it?”
“Good! We both enjoyed it. Caught up about work and whatnot. She’s literally my only friend here except for you.”

“You two should go out sometime then!”

“Meh, maybe soon.” She took a pause then a sudden urgency took over her body and she looked panicked. “Ugh I gotta pee,” she ached, standing up and running to the washroom randomly. Sid took that opportunity to sneak onto her laptop and find Mia in her contacts synced through her imessage.

Looks like she’ll be involved in the party on Friday too, he thought. There is no way in hell she is going to see this coming.
