The Roommate

Three

Bri packed her car full of her belongings she brought with her from home and prepared herself for the next step in her life. She was nervous to go on this new journey but what does she have to lose? She lives for adventure and if it doesn’t work out, she’ll find a new door and opportunity to explore. The drive was pretty long due to traffic, but the scenery was right up her alley. Very old in some parts, and somewhat country and rustic in others.

She got in the gated community and found her way to Sidney’s house. He was out waiting in a backwards baseball hat and a baseball type tshirt, he was looking fine as hell in her opinion. As she parked the car and got out she noticed the little amount of scruff on his jaw line and she died a little on the inside because of how hot he was.

“There she is! How was it?” He asked, helping her to her trunk.

“Good! The GPS gave me great directions, cuz you didn’t,” she joked.

“I should have done that,” he chuckled. “Did you actually want to take a tour first to pick out which room you wanted?”

“Yeah, that’s perfect!”

His house wasn’t as large as she thought it would be, but it was definitely suitable for what he needed. There was a large living area, a family room, large kitchen and dining room, and a few closets. The backyard was a whole other story. It was massive.

“There is a bedroom down here if you’d like to check it out. My parents usually stay in this one, so you know it’s good.”

“Oh I couldn’t take their room!”

“You know you can if you want to!”

“Well come check the one upstairs, I think you’ll like it.”

Sure enough she did. It had a huge bedroom and a little bit of space for an entertaining space and a walk in bathroom. She was in awe with the size considering it was just a guest room.

“It’s so big!” she gasped. Secretly in Sidney’s mind he was think that’s what she’d say if she ever saw him naked. A small smile crept up on his face just at the thought.

“But it gives you enough space to not feel so trapped. You can do whatever you’d like with it. No one stays in this room if they’re over anyway, so you should take it. I insist.”

“Well if you insist,” she shrugged, laughing.

Much to Sid’s approval she made herself feel right at home immediately by going to sit on the bed. Clearly it was meant to be a good fit. He asked her if she would like help bringing her boxes upstairs, and she gladly accepted.

“I am allowed to use the dresser and closet right?” she asked carrying up a box full of clothes.

“Of course,” Sid chuckled. “You have free range to whatever you want. Gym is in the basement, knock yourself out to that.”

“You have a gym in your house too? Do you ever stop training?”

“I do,” he responded placing a larger box of clothes on her bed. “I usually take my breaks for about a month after the season ends, and then I start back up again. Everyone needs a break every once in awhile, and I know I’m not Superman.”

“I was about to say. I don’t know how you could be so strict with yourself all the time.”

“Oh you’ll be surprised. Do you want me to get the last of the boxes while you unpack?”

“No, no. I can get them! You must have things to do anyway.”
“I have the day off. All I was going to do otherwise was go grocery shopping since I don’t have much in the house,” Sid said scratching the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed with the lack of food he truly has.

“Do you want me to come with you?”

“You have so much to do though, I don’t want you to feel rushed or pressured to get unpacked and to feel comfortable.”

“I’m pretty sure it won’t take me that long to get everything out.” Bri then pulled out all of her clothes from a box which already had hangers on them and put the handful in the closet. “And with that I am officially half way there,” she giggled.

“I’m not going to lie, that was pretty impressive.” Clearly she was a planner, Sid thought to himself. “You’re always prepared.”

“As I’ve said before, I try to be! Do you mind passing me that box?” she asked. He brought the box he was carrying earlier over and their hands brushed in the process of passing it along. The feeling of her soft hands on his rough ones lingered for the both of them. “I just have to put these in here and I’m done. Do you want to go shopping after this?”

“Sure. I’ll leave you to that and I’ll be downstairs just making a list of what I need. Let me know if you can think of anything.”

As Sid walked down the stairs he couldn’t help but think of how cute Bri looked, and how organized she was. He knew having a girl like that around would be beneficial to him in a number of ways, but her attractiveness made it 10 times better.

Meanwhile Bri couldn’t wipe the smile off her face. She knew exactly who Sidney Crosby was, yet her opinion of him didn’t change in the slightest way. He seemed like a normal and down to earth kind of guy, not the superstar that the NHL paints him to be.

Bri got changed into a more shopping appropriate outfit and off she went to meet Sidney in the kitchen. “Got your list ready to go?” she asked, startling him quite a bit.

“I guess. I’m not too sure what else I really need. Do you have anything in mind?”

“I’m sure I’ll think of something while we’re there. Are you really particular with the things you have in your home?”

“Not at all. I have a very strict diet and I don’t cheat on it often, so I don’t get distracted by anything.”

“You mean to say you don’t have one food that would make you cave?” she asked, eyes staring him down with a shit eating grin on her face. She was getting into his head and she was well aware of it.

“Well,” he paused, hanging his head. “Maybe chinese food or pizza. I can’t say no to those nights.”

“Then let’s order it tonight for dinner.”

“What?” he asked, giving her a double take.

“My treat, for helping me move in and for allowing me to move in with you.”

“You don’t have to treat at all, I promise. You already treated to coffee.”

“Your point?”

“You shouldn’t have to treat all the time. Just saying.”

“Just shut up, get your list ready and be prepared for an amazing meal from wherever we decide.”

Sid just smiled and shook his head at how easy this girl could make him change his mind, and push him around in a sense. He liked how she could hold her own against him and wasn’t afraid to be independant. He could already sense she didn’t care about gender roles, yet wasn’t a crazy feminist who will shove it down his throat.

The shopping trip was casual and felt extremely normal compared to other experiences either one of them had shopping with someone of the opposite sex. They didn’t act goofy or too serious, but they were relaxed. Sid avoided seeing any fans which helped his case greatly. He wasn’t in the mood to be interrupted and questioned about who Bri was. Until that point he hadn’t even thought about what his teammates would have even thought.

When it came time to deciding dinner they chose whatever would arrive quicker, which was pizza. Sidney called with his order and waited for it to be delivered. Bri was upstairs organizing her room a bit more. She felt comfortable enough to start moving furniture around, which didn’t bother Sid in the slightest bit.

No sooner did the pizza come they were together eating it on the couch. She was wrapped in a blanket because she was cold, whereas Sid was in as little clothing as possible because he was the complete opposite. Together they made small talk until he got a call from his cell. He excused himself and went into the kitchen to take it.

“Hey man, what’s going on?” he asked.

“Buddy!” Kris Letang yelled through the phone. “We’re having a team party now that some of the vets are back in town. You coming?”

“Uh,” he said unsure if he should spend the first night in the house with Bri, with her. “Whose place?”

“Mine. I got an empty house so I might as well use it.”

“Alright I’m in,” he said hesitantly.

“Great, come whenever.” With that the phone hung up and it was time for him to get ready.

He didn’t want to feel like a dick by leaving her, and didn’t want to say he was going to a party with the teammates nonetheless. Quickly thinking of an excuse he approached her and said, “I’m sorry to eat and run, but I have tream stuff I have to attend to. I don’t really know when I’ll be back. Do you feel comfortable being here by yourself while I’m gone?”

“Of course. Go do your thing! I have to get to bed soon anyway. I have a big meeting in the morning for a new project I’m going to start soon. Don’t worry about me,” she smiled.

“Alright, I’m off to get ready. Make yourself at home, please.” She just looked at him and put her feet on the coffee table and ate a bite of the crust. He laughed and shook his head, running up the stairs. This woman is going to kill him, he knows it.
