She Was The Friend He Needed

Chapter 3

** this gives some background on Cassie family which you will start seeing in the other story as well**

Cassie grandfather and her father had four season tickets to the Penguins and over the years there had been moments of fights over who would get to go to what games as so many family members loved hockey


This was the case again for the the first game at Mellon arena of the new season and Sid Pittsburgh debut.

Her dad was able to go and Hunter wanted to go her grandfather was going

. Cassie wanted to go she wanted to see Sid debut they had become pretty much best friends. Problem was also her one uncle and her cousin wanted to go.

“We only have four tickets and six want to go it won't work” Matt says to them all as they sat around after Sunday dinner at his parents house a few days before the game

“Well I think I should get to go I mean if you and hunter are going then the other two seats are dad’s” said his brother Paul

“This is true” Matt says

“Hey why can't dad take Brandon I mean he loves hockey and this is a big game” their sister Rachel asks

"Just forget I even asked to go cause I will never made a case for me to be able to go” Cassie says walking outside

"What's up with her she knows me and dad will take her to many games this season paul says

“Well not that it matter and wish we had more that four tickets because this seems to happen always a few times a year. but she has become pretty good friends with Sidney and I think she like to see his first game in Pittsburgh. hell if I could just buy another ticket I would for her but they are sold out” Jenna says she felt for Cassie she knew she wanted to go

"I knew she meant him at one of Hunter’s game and Mario said they hung out once or twice” Matt says

“More than that she doesn't treat him like a hockey god and he likes it and she helped him learn places in Pittsburgh they become friends it's nice she has a friend since her few close ones went away for collage” Jenna says

"So what she can go to another game” Rachel

“So can Brandon” Jenna says

"Enough I bought these tickets with Matt because it was special for us to all have chances to go to hockey games together and enjoy the game we love but you are all bricking on about it. Cassie just walked away didn't even fight about it and she has more reason to want to be there so I am taking her with my ticket end of story” her grandfather Jake says as he walks out to find Cassie

Cassie was sitting on the front steps when he walked out


“What's my pretty and only granddaughter sitting out here for” he asks

“Can't deal with them. Uncle Paul actually I can deal with it's just him no kids so I have always been his little princess but aunt Rachel will win the argument to take Brandon so I didn't want to fight” Cassie says

Her uncle Paul has walked out too to check on her “you're right you are my little princess even grown up and you're wrong Aunt Rachel didn't win this time”

“What I don't know what you mean” Cassie says

“Why didn't you tell us you had become friends with Sidney and that's why you want to go” Jake asks

"Cause I don't want to make it a big deal he likes just being Sidney and I like being friends with Sidney. Not Sidney savior of the Penguins” Cassie says

"I get that “ Paul says

"Well guess what you're my date for the game and at some point I want to meet this guy” Jake says

"Me too” Paul says

"Thank you Pap for taking me and guys we aren't dating it's not like that” Cassie says

"We still want to meet him it's Sidney Crosby” Paul says

“Oh I get it you want to meet the hockey god” Cassie says laughing

Cassie has seen Sid for a few minutes the day before the game she told him she was going to the first game. She told him she was planning on getting his jersey the first time she have a name on one she always just stuck to plain jerseys no names

. He told her he had something for her for the game it turned out to be one of his old Rimouski jerseys. He told her she be different in that one than all the other Pittsburgh fans.

“There’s my date” her grandfather says as Cassie made it to where they were meeting at Mellon arena

“Where'd you get the jersey” Hunter asks

“Sid” Cassie says

“Are you two more than friends” Matt asks

"No dad really just friends I told him I plan to buy his jersey and he told me this way I could be different I think he didn't want me to pay money for a jersey” Cassie says laughing

“That was nice of him” Jake says as they make it to their seats

Half way through the first period Sid got an amazing breakaway and just buried the puck in the net Cassie and her family were up on their feets cheering as well as most of the arena


Sid caught sight of her being in that jersey she wasn't hard to miss he laughed a little at how big it was on her she swam in it but she wore it.

He smiled at the slight her and her family and all of Pittsburgh on their feet for his first goal in Mellon arena.

The Penguins went on to actually lose the game but Sid had a goal and an assist and he knew he could get used to the love he felt from these fans win or lose they seem to never give up on the team and that's what he needed during this challenge of building a great hockey team to hopefully win Stanley Cups some day
