Going by the Book

Nine

Harper began to shimmy out of the sleek sports car, trying not to flash anyone so early in the day. As soon as Jason could get the ticket from the valet, he came around to help her the rest of the way. Truth be told, she was pretty anxious about attending the wedding. The only person she knew was Jason and the thought of having to make awkward small talk with strangers was nauseating. The weather’s so nice this time of year. This is my first time to Canada. I’m from southern California, we don’t have seasons. She thought about every awkward conversation she’d have today, and hoped Jason would be there for all of them. If he was, maybe they wouldn't be so awkward.

“You look simply alluring,” Jason whispered as he escorted her into the venue.

She linked her arm with his and steadied herself on the grass. High heels didn’t mesh too well with it. “That’s the sixth adjective you’ve used so far,”

“And you are all of them,” he grinned ear to ear. “Beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, ravishing, exquisite, and alluring.”

Harper rolled her eyes playfully at him. He was too smooth for his own good. They arrived early enough to enjoy a quick cocktail before they were to be herded to the garden for the ceremony. Harper already knew she’d be meeting some of his hockey buddies here, so she mentally prepared for the fact that she’d be walking into his already preexisting, strong relationships. In fact they barely got into the garden before the groom himself came running up.

He was quick to pull Jason into a tight hug, “look at you, you little shit!”

Harper backed up and held her clutch at her waist. She couldn't help but smile at Jason and his friend. The more she saw Jason with people from his past or personal life, the more she was attracted to him. There was an easiness to his interaction with everyone, and that made her like him a little bit more each time.

“Me? You’re the one getting married! Who knew you could clean up this well?”

The groom smiled and held onto Jason’s shoulders, “I learned from the pink suit connoisseur.” He looked over at Harper and reached out to take her into a hug as well. “Jason hasn't stopped going on about you since you met. I’m happy to meet you,”

Harper blushed and hugged him back, catching Jason’s grin from over the groom’s shoulder. “I’m happy to meet you too. Congratulations on the wedding,”

“Thanks,” he beamed and looked around. “Listen, you two grab drinks. I’ve got to make my rounds.” He nudged Jason’s shoulder, “Steeger’s on his way so you’ll catch up.”

Jason nodded, “yeah, go on.”

The groom ran off and Harper linked her arm back around Jason’s as a waiter passed by. She grabbed a glass of champagne as he offered it to her, and Jason politely declined the flute. He was obviously on the hunt for something a little stronger.

Before he could find anything of substance, Jason was whisked into another conversation. He introduced Harper, and she greeted the newcomer, but the moment she was out of the conversation, she too was on the hunt for something stronger for Jason.

There were waiters and waitresses everywhere, either holding trays of full glasses, or trays of empty ones. Soon enough, another waiter passed by, this time with a different cocktail, and Harper grinned as she took one from his tray. He looked utterly confused as to why she wanted to be double fisting champagne and some whiskey cocktail. But the waiter made no comment, and Harper turned back around, handing off the whiskey drink to Jason. He seemed surprised that she operated so quickly with getting him a drink, and he gave her an appreciative kiss before getting back into conversation.

She really did enjoy being here with him. It was a chance to see Jason in a different element. Not that she’d yet seen him in his hockey element, but she had to assume it was much different than this. This was laid back, ready to do almost anything on a whim, and she had to assume that hockey season changed all of that. He couldn’t get on a plane for a vacation at any second, or take a spontaneous road trip into Georgia for the weekend. He’d be confined to Florida, or wherever his next game was. And given that Harper still had responsibilities, like her job, she wouldn't be seeing much of him when that time rolled around. He’d have hockey, and she’d have teaching, and somehow they’d be forced to make it or break it.

They sat in one of the rows, in between two sets of couples. And before long, the bride was walking down the aisle. Harper has no emotional ties to either of the people getting married, but when the ceremony began, it created an onslaught of emotion. She was by no means an emotional person; wasn't even sure if her parents had seen her cry for anything other than a physical injury. But in front of her, two people were professing their endless love to each other. They held hands and held back tears, promising to be there and support each other.

So Harper teared up too, which she was inclined to blame on her hormones giving she was supposed to be getting her period soon. But part of her guessed that Jason knew that wasn't the reason why. He wrapped his arm around her chair back, and smiled at her when she reached to take his free hand.

“Hey,” Jason whispered, leaning over just a bit closer to Harper’s ear. The ceremony was still in progress and the last thing he wanted to do was interrupt.

She looked up at him and grinned. Did he just want to say hello, or did he actually have something to say?

“How long have we been together?” He continued, speaking just as quietly.

“Not long enough for you to be proposing,” Harper giggled and buried her face into Jason’s shoulder momentarily to compose herself. She didn’t want the other guests to think she was laughing at the wedding.

Jason smiled as he pressed his lips to her head. When she collected herself to look at him again, he repeated, “how long?”

She thought for a moment. Just before their Canada trip, which began in Dorval and Montreal, and now they found themselves in Alberta. it really hadn’t been that long, but it felt like they’d spent the better have of a year together. “Two weeks, maybe.”

“That’s it?” His voice raised a little louder, and they both couldn’t help but notice they were getting odd looks from the people around them. Jason cleared his throat and started up again, now on a quieter level. “Well then excuse what I’m about to say… Not because I don’t mean it, but because of the quickness it’s being said.”

“Jason,” she shook her head.

“I love you,”

Harper could hardly believe it. This had to be the wedding talking. He couldn't possibly feel this way, this soon. Not about her. Admittedly, those same words almost came out of her mouth when they first had sex in Montreal, but the more she mulled them over, the more she doubted whether or not it was real. She wasn’t even sure she was capable of real love. Didn’t that require emotions? Did she have those?

“No, you don’t.” She could’ve said anything. Literally anything. And yet those were the three words that came out of her mouth. Jason looked just as shocked. “You can’t love me,”

“Why not?” Despite not getting the response he was expecting, Jason still grinned as though this were some sort of game and he was determined to be the winner.

Around them, people were beginning to stand and clap. And when both Jason and Harper looked up, the newly wed bride and groom were coming down the aisle. They stood too, and halted their conversation for the time being to applaud the couple.

But as soon as people began to scatter and get ready for the reception, Jason looked back at Harper. “Why can't I love you?”

“Because you hardly know a thing about me. It doesn’t make any sense.”

“Love doesn’t always make sense,” Jason protested. For just confessing his love, he didn’t seem to disheartened by the fact that Harper didn’t say it back. “I love you, Harper… No matter how illogical that seems to you,”

Harper shook her head, “this isn’t some Jane Austen novel, and you’re no Mr. Darcy. This doesn’t happen in real life, Jason.”

“What doesn’t happen?” He grabbed hold of her hand so she’d stay standing in front of him. How badly he wished she saw the same woman he saw. She was everything, and yet when she looked introspectively, she saw nothing. “Dating? Feelings? Someone telling you they love you?” Their eyes locked on his last comment and Jason leaned in closer, “that should happen everyday. Because you’re amazing. Amazing, and those six other adjectives I used earlier, and every other adjective that could possibly be used to describe someone as riveting and complex as you.” He smiled and cocked his head to the side, “you don't have to tell me you love me too. I know one day you’ll say it back. And until that day comes, I’ll keep reminding you that I do love you, Harper. You might not think I’m a Mr. Darcy, but you must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

She choked back emotion, partially because of what he said, and partially because he had managed to quote Pride and Prejudice. He so flawlessly quoted Mr. Darcy that she almost immediately thought she had pegged Jason all wrong. Maybe he was a more open and emotional Mr. Darcy.

Jason decided to leave it there. For now at least. They'd have to get through the rest of the night, and he didn’t want it to go wrong because he kept trying to figure out why she was so against him loving her. He grabbed her hand why she stood speechless, and led her into the barn where the reception was bound to begin.

Harper stared out the window of the sports car as they made their way back to the bed and breakfast. They’d ended the night dancing, which Harper really enjoyed with Jason. He had an impeccable sense of rhythm, given the bulkiness of his build. She was drawn back into her reality when she felt Jason take her hand over the center console. He didn’t say anything, made no notion he was about to get into a conversation, just held her hand and kept driving.

She set her head back on the headrest and stared at him. He looked so peaceful in his own little world, thinking about whatever he was thinking about. And when he caught her looking at him, he smiled, “you look breathtaking in that dress.”

“Eight,” she replied, referring to the number of adjectives he’d used to describe her today.

He grinned and squeezed her hand. “And as much as I love you in it, I just really want to get you out of it.”

“That can be arranged,” she smirked and took his hand, guiding it to her lap.

Jason looked over at her quickly, and then back at the road. Harper was the one in control now. It was rare that she could that privilege when in bed with Jason, so she took advantage of it now. From her lap, she centered his hand until his fingers pressed between her thighs and against her underwear. He let out a light chuckle when he felt the lace of her panties against his fingertips. Harper let out a breathy moan and shut her eyes as she pressed her fingers against Jason’s, making his hand curl against her.

She rolled her hips down on his hand while simultaneously pushing his hand up, and it made her whole body flinch. Jason then took it upon himself to circle his fingers over her clit, pressing down gently. Harper opened her eyes and looked up at Jason. He was switching his attention from the road to her body every few seconds, and had she not been so turned on, she might’ve been fearing for her safety in the car. Eventually, she did reach down to pull her underwear to the side so Jason could actually touch her skin. And he did so without hesitation.

Harper put her hand back over Jason’s and pressed against his fingers until they slid between her pussy lips and up to her clit, where the gentle contact almost made her lose control. Her eyes fluttered shut again and she bit her lip, giggling. “You’re gonna make me come,”

Jason refocused on the road as he massaged his fingers over her faster, pressing harder than before. Harper leaned forward in her seat momentarily, before relaxing back against it. Jason chewed his bottom lip as he stretched to reach further, curling and sinking his fingers into her. She held onto his wrist and nodded, inching her hips forward to allow his fingers further into her. He thrust his fingers up and quickly glanced at her. He could tell she was close. It was a face he’d grown familiar with. And so Jason placed his fingers back on her clit.

When she came, she pressed her free hand against the passenger side window to brace herself, while her other hand still squeezed Jason’s wrist. She was blown away that he could keep control of the high performance vehicle and get her off at the same time. Jason removed his hand from between her legs and pushed his fingers into his mouth, sucking them clean. Harper blushed and unbuckled her seatbelt, leaning over the center console to kiss Jason’s neck. She rolled her tongue over his skin and bit it gently.

“I want to blow you,” she whispered against his neck.

“Hmm?” He asked, tilting his head down. They were nearing the bed and breakfast now, much to his pleasure. Jason just wanted to lay her down and be inside her.

Harper moved her lips to his shoulder and placed her hand on the bulge between his legs, “I want you in my mouth.”

Jason smiled and pulled into the parking lot of the bed and breakfast, settling on a spot in the corner. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, but instead he just reached for his pants and unbuttoned them enough to pull out his cock. He looked up at Harper and cupped her face with his other hand, and kissed her slowly.

As she leaned over, Harper realized this was going to be harder than it looked. Not the actual act, but the placement they were going to be doing it. The center console was low enough to be out of the way, but Jason had to keep one hand on her side to keep her from jamming her ribs against the gearshift. She looked up at him before she began, becoming overwhelmingly nervous with what she was about to do.

“I’m afraid of hurting you,” she whispered.

Jason placed his free hand on the back of her head and gently scratched his fingers through her hair. “You won’t,” he tried to ease her nerves.

His hand on her head served as no pressure to lower her. Harper felt in control of the situation, that she could start or stop at anytime she pleased. And right now, she wanted to please him. Jason moved his hand from her head, and took hold of her hand, guiding and curling it around his shaft. She glanced up at him once more, then finally gained the courage to focus on the task at hand.

Harper pressed her lips against the head of his cock, and Jason let out a hearty breath. When she opened her mouth and ran her tongue over it, Jason placed his hand back on her head, stroking her hair. He was offering little moans and gasps which only served as motivation for Harper. With her hand still curled around the base of his cock, she closed her lips around him and sucked in gently, laying her tongue flat on the underside of his shaft. Jason tilted his head to the side to watch her, and gently guided her hand to stroke him while her tongue worked on the upper half go his cock.

She didn't even realize it at first, but soon Harper caught onto the fact that Jason was actually leading her through the experience. She caught on when he licked his fingers and slid them over his shaft, so when her hand passed over it, it glided much easier. Harper was thankful for that. Her inexperience with this particular act left her at a disadvantage of anticipating what would feel good to him. After all, she’d never even seen a man get himself off. Watching porn had never really been her thing, and admittedly her nose was usually buried in a book… not against the hip of a man she was going down on.

Another moan passed Jason’s lips as Harper got even a touch lower on him, taking just an inch more of him into her mouth. “Look up at me,”

Harper heard his quiet request, and while still sucking on his cock, she shifted her eyes up as best she could. She caught Jason’s glance and hummed against him, bobbing her head along his shaft slowly.

“You look so fucking beautiful with my dick in your mouth,” he whispered, gathering her hair in his fist.

She blushed and tilted her head to the side until the head of his cock pressed against the inside of her cheek. When his dick popped out of her mouth, she moaned and shifted her head to take it back in, rocking her head up and down, massaging the underside of his shaft with her tongue. She could feel him throbbing in her mouth and she looked up at him again as she sucked in softly. Harper pulled her head back and licked along the side of his cock.

“Does it feel good?” She went back to wrapping her lips around the head of his cock, flicking her tongue back and forth across the tip.

Jason nodded and chewed on his bottom lip, “it feels amazing, baby girl.” He smiled down at her, and Harper began bobbing her head faster. His appreciative grunts and moans clued her in that he was getting close to his release. After a moment, his stomach flexed, and he groaned, “c’mere, c’mere, c’mere.”

Harper obeyed and lifted her mouth off of him, sitting up straighter while he still kept his arm around her waist, holding her close. Jason took her hand and wrapped it around his shaft. With his hand curled around hers, he moved her hand in the motion he wanted, stroking closer and closer to his orgasm. He turned his head and kissed her intensely, and then bit on her lower lip.

He mumbled something else out but Harper didn’t catch onto it, and just as she pressed her lips to his neck, Jason came thrusting into her hand. He was panting, and they both looked down at his waist. Harper blushed, seeing his come decorating their hands. Jason set his head back on the headrest and looked down at her as his thumb stroked her side soothingly. With the hand that wasn’t covered in his come, Harper reached into her purse and pulled out a pack of tissues. She was thankful for past her, who had decided to stash the Kleenex before the wedding just incase she got emotional.

She wiped his come from both of their hands and crumpled up the tissues, looking for a place to put them. Jason grinned and chuckled, eventually holding out his hand until she handed them to him. He pecked her lips once more before tucking his dick back in his pants, and then they got out of the car.

Harper held onto Jason’s hand when they walked inside and up to their room. She seemed to have a permanent smile on her face, and she leaned in closer to Jason’s side. “I like when you call me baby girl,”

Jason looked down at her, and Harper blushed. He pulled his hand from hers and moved it to her ass where he gave it a firm squeeze. She enjoyed feeling tiny and safe in his hands; that she was his and he wanted everyone to know it.
