AAOOOSC! Junior Powers!

Loose Cannon

The next day has dawned. The outside is not seen due to the metallic slates covering the glass walls, but the time is proof that it is the morning. The six members have already finished breakfast, provided by Matteo.

Now in the training room, the members are now trying out Kailer’s “Suit-Motos,” or in other words, their super suits.

In the main room, Kailer steps back with a smirk on his face and inquiring eyes. “So...what do you think?”

Standing in front of him, facing him, are Matteo, Jake, Kale, and Jeremy. They are all wearing identical suits.

The suits are exactly like a skaters’ hockey equipment, minus the blades of the skates and the head covering of the helmet. The colour scheme is black with a thick white stripe between thin, red, glowing stripes on the hem, sleeves, and socks.

On the centre of the jersey, where a logo is supposed to go, is a black circle surrounded by white and glowing red. There is a patch on the upper right side with the words “GJHP,” including glowing red circles on their shoulders. Their junior numbers and surnames are also included on the backs and sleeves of their jerseys.

Jake is bent over, pawing at the socks. “I’m gonna have to get used to this.” He straightens himself up and wiggles in his new suit.

Jeremy peers at the creator of the suits. “Why is it only skater style?” He shakes his leg pad-less leg. “What about us goalies?”

Kailer scratches his head. “I did give you two goalies goalie skates but your leg pads, gloves, and helmets are…” He drops his hand. “...inefficient for fighting.”

Jeremy nods his head in understanding. “Ah.”

“So this is how it feels to be a skater…” Jake peers at the others. “Odd!”

Matteo nods to Kailer with a satisfied smile. “It’s good. Thanks, Doc.”

He gives him a sweet smile. “You are most welcome!”

Jake then steps up to him. “Is Brett done yet with his suit?” He taps the tip of his fingers in anticipation.

Kailer lifts his wrist to his eye level, peering at his activated Wrist-Moto. “He should be coming out any moment...”

WRRR—! CLUNK. WRRR—! CLUNK. WRRR—! CLUNK.

Everyone turns around with surprised expressions to see the source of the booming, mechanical sounds.

Standing proudly in front of the entrance at the other end of the room is Brett in his own special super suit.

The suit is mechanical, completely made out of metal, therefore, giving him a bulky physique. The suit bears the same colour scheme as his major junior team: black with red, gray, and white accents.

Matteo gawks at the sight. “What the heck?”

“What are you wearing?” Jeremy asks with a frown.

“That makes you look fat,” Kale points out bluntly.

“Brett!” Jake rushes up to his partner’s side with delight-filled eyes. “Oh—” He places his hands on his smooth, tough shoulders. “—I’m so glad to see you, Brett, I’ve been missing you so much!” He peers down at what Brett is wearing. “Ooo—” He begins peering at the suit from different angles with quick movements. “—what is that you’re wearing? It looks pretty shiny! It’s like a tin can!”

Growing infuriated, Brett jabs a thick, sharp finger at Kailer. “Take your comments to smarty pants over there!”

Everyone turns their stares toward the scientist.

“So?” Kailer rocks on his feet with his hands behind his back and a small smile. “What do you think?”

“That looks so stupid,” Kale answers flatly.

With suppressed rage, the small skater whirls to the teenager in the hefty suit. “Howden, you have a gun or two or twenty-one of them and they’re not to be jeered at!”

Brett’s eyebrows shoot up. “Oh right!” He immediately holds his hand in the air as a high-tech, thick gun builds itself into view. He aims it at the group. “NOW does it look cool?”

Kale rolls his eyes. “Whatever floats your boat.”

“And I got an automatic hair salon!” He aims his gun upward, immediately having it retracted, being replaced by a brush.

He then holds up his left arm, where a mirror pops into view. A bottle of hairspray extends into view from his back. Then all in union, the hairspray bottle sprays the formula on his hair as the brush extends to his hair by a metallic bar attached to it, moving it in sweeping motions through his thick hair.

Brett coolly peers at himself in the mirror as his suit is giving him a hair grooming session.

Jeremy raises his eyebrows at the scientist with a frown. “Really?”

Kailer has pursed lips at the teenager fixing his hair. “It was the only way I can get him to wear my suit.”

“Okay!” Matteo claps his hands, gaining everyone’s attention, including Brett, who quickly puts his hair salon away. “So now we should be acquainted with everyone’s powers to know which abilities we have.”

Kailer makes his way to the Master’s side and with his tablet at hand.

“So, who’ll like to show their powers?” Matteo peers at each member.

Jake begins hopping in place with his hand high in the air. “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Me me me me me!” He then bounces to the front of the group, exchanging places with Kailer.

“I have canine physiology!” He stands heroically with his hands on his hips and barks: “Ruff!” He then gazes at the others seriously. “That means that I can see in the dark…” He peers above them with the side of his hand over his eyes. “...can track really, really well with my super senses…” He begins stepping around warily and determinedly. “...and I can bite practically anything!”

He halts and pulls out a chew toy from the suit’s pocket. He then bites it and with one yank, rips it in half. He grabs the other piece out from his mouth with his other hand to continue speaking:

“And Brett is my bestie, so if you land a finger on him, remember you and this chew toy will have a few things in common.” He holds the torn chew toy in the air with an innocent smile. “And I’ll always know when he’s in danger.” He lowers his hands.

Matteo claps half-heartedly. “Wow, that’s great.”

Kailer begins typing on the tablet with two thumbs.

The Master looks at the others as Jake returns to the group. “Okay, who’s next?”

“I’ll go!” Jeremy skips to the front of the group and faces them promptly. “Hello, my name is Jeremy Swayman, you can call me ‘JSway,’ Sway Baby,’ or ‘Brick Wall,’ whatever you’d like.” He flicks his hand in the air. “Anyway, I’m strong.”

Kailer raises his eyebrows. “How strong?”

Jeremy peers to his right, spotting a dummy against the wall. He immediately thrusts his forearm against it.

CRA-ASH!!!

The wall quakes and crumbles as the dummy is thrust through the wall, out of sight. Dust fills the room with the sound of tumbling rubble.

Kailer frowns at the massive hole in the wall. “Great.” He presses a few buttons on the tablet’s screen.

The wall immediately fills the hole, fixing itself.

Jeremy turns back to the group from staring at the wall. “So yeah, I can use my strength for practically anything. Even make shockwaves, vibrations, that good stuff.”

“Can you lift up a whole car?” Jake asks eagerly.

“Yeah.”

Jake’s jaw drops with eyes as wide as pucks.

Matteo grins at him. “Awesome, we’ll be needing you!” He then peers at the others. “Next?”

Brett then lumbers to the front of the group, switching places with the goalie. He gradually turns around to look at the group. “I’m Brett, and you see, I needed to have my own personalized suit because I’m that awesome and I’m skilled with weapons, any object, really.”

He holds his gloved hand in the air, which builds up a sleek cylinder gun enclosing his hand. He aims to gun to the right, where there is a target hanging on the wall, and releases a blast of red energy.

The energy slams into the bullseye of the target, leaving behind a scorched mark on the red dot and then smoke.

Brett turns back to the others. “I’ve even used my brush as a weapon before!” He lowers his arm as the gun dissembles itself back into the suit, revealing his gloved hand. “Along with that, I have sick aiming skills from miles and miles away, including sweet hand-to-hand combat. Oh, and for some reason, any type of fire doesn’t harm me.”

Matteo appears impressed with awe-filled eyes. “Amazing. That’d be really useful.” He then turns to the last member other than himself and Kailer. “Kale?”

Kale folds his arms across his chest. “No.”

He frowns at him. “Why? You gotta go.”

Kale nods toward the small skater. “Doc can go.”

Kailer peers at him with a friendly mien. “Why, thank you.” He hands the tablet to the Master and whisks to the front of the group. “Not only do I have great intelligence beyond the average seventeen-year-old, I am also skilled in archery.”

He snaps his wrist in the air, immediately conjuring a bow made out of wispy, sapphire energy with hints of white. “This is what I utilize to combat.”

With his right hand, he creates an arrow out of the same energy. “It has the same effects as ordinary ergokinetic projectile.” He then loads it onto his glowing bow and launches it.

The arrow whizzes into the air, striking the scorched bullseye and disintegrating into sparks.

Kailer turns back to his group. “I can also teleport” —he immediately disappears in a flash of blue and white energy— “and have enhanced reflexes and aim,” he finishes off from behind the group.

Everyone turns around to face the scientist’s new spot.

Kailer gives them a deep bow. “Thank you.” He then teleports in a zap of blue energy, reappearing next to the Master. He reclaims the tablet and begins feverishly typing on it.

Matteo peers at the last member to go, other than himself. “Kale?”

Kale shakes his head. “No.”

Matteo lets out a heavy sigh. “Alright, I’ll go.” He makes his way to the front of the room and faces his society.

“I have not just the regular water manipulation, but ocean manipulation. So, I have control over the oceans. I also have this sword with me at all times.” He holds his hand in the air, having a majestic Viking sword materialize into view in his grasp. “I have it since I’ve mastered the art of sword fighting.” He lets go the sword, vanishing it from sight.

“I have more strength than the average guy, but not as much as the Brick Wall of course.” He chuckles while holding his hand out toward Jeremy. “Oh yeah, and I can make anything cold through the air and I know north, south, east, and west— It’s like I have an internal compass.”

“You’ll be great to sail with,” Kailer points out with his eyes on the tablet.

Matteo shrugs tentatively. “Yeah, it goes hand-in-hand with my team’s powers, since they’re about Vikings sailing the icy cold waters.” He then steps back to his place in the group.

“Splendid,” Kailer mutters, pressing on the tablet’s screen.

Matteo then turns to the remaining member who hasn’t gone up yet. “Kale?”

Kale shakes his head quickly. “I don’t want to.”

Jake whirls to him with excitement. “Aw, come on, I wanna see your powers!”

“Yeah, they must be so cool!” Brett adds in with anticipated eyes.

Jeremy gives him a skeptical look. “You do have powers right?”

Matteo tilts his head at him with a pleading expression. “Come on, for us. You have to.”

Kale lets out a huff. “Fine.” He begrudgingly shuffles to the front and turns around to face the others. “Wanna take a guess?”

Jake scratches his head with a puzzled expression. “You can...fly!” His eyes light up at his guess.

“You’re in the Wheat Kings…,” Brett points out with narrowed eyes.

Kailer has a slight frown at him. “I have an inkling, but it can’t be it…”

“You have wheat-based powers?” Jeremy guesses, holding his bent arms from his sides.

With that, the whole room is engulfed in heavy silence.

Kale has his eyes cast on the ground. “Yeah.”

Jake immediately lets out a snort, quickly slapping his hands over his nose and mouth. “What can you do with wheat?” he squeaks out.

“So you bake?” Brett asks with a crumbled smile.

Everyone else in the group breaks out in low chuckles, exchanging amused expressions with each other.

With a deadly glare, Kale begins striding away from the front and toward the exit.

Matteo spots his escaping and makes his way toward him. “Wait, wait, wait, sorry, sorry, Kale.” He slips in front of him, holding his hands out toward him. “Can you show us?”

“No,” Kale states bitterly.

“Pleeease?!” Jake implores with a taut voice. “We won’t laugh!”

Next to him, Brett nods his head feverishly with a red face and pursued lips, attempting to stifle his chortling.

Without saying a single word, Kale flicks his hand in the air, holding up a golden, wispy stalk of wheat.

Jake and Brett immediately turn to each other, exchanging giggles. The other three eye the stalk, holding back their laughter.

Matteo holds a hand out toward him. “Hey, you got chosen to be in this group. Your powers’ll come to good use.”

Kale lowers his hand, concealing the stalk of wheat. “Whatever.” He then brushes by the Master, exiting the room.

Jake cranes his head toward the exit and hollers, “Bake for us when you can!”

“Preferably a lava chocolate cake!” Brett adds on loudly.

The two then turn to each other and burst out into laughter.

Kailer promptly lowers the tablet, glaring at the chuckling two. “Alright, men, that’s enough.” He turns to the other two. “Let’s start training and fixing more rooms.”

Here are suit sketches!!!

Le Suit-Motos!

Okay, so long story short: this story was gonna be called "AAOOOSC! Minor Powers!" before I found out that "minor hockey" and "junior hockey" are complete different things. hence why you don't see the term "AMP" on here anymore.
Also, the word 'flutes" was supposed to be the word to shout to activate the suits due to an error instead of saying 'suits.' but I decided to cut it out
And the model is Kale
