Trouble in the King's Court

Chapter 8

Aly's trial against Henrik was tomorrow afternoon and she was extremely nervous to be back in the courtroom. She hasn't testified since she was 15 when she was raped and nearly lost her life. It was going to be a brutal day for her. The Rangers had skate that afternoon to prep for the game against Pittsburgh, but head coach Alain Vigneault gave Chris an excused absence to be with her.

While the team had morning skate today, Aly asked Therese to bring the girls by for a visit to Chris' apartment in an attempt to mend some wounds and heal. Charlise and Juli were too young to understand what their father had done or why he was in jail.

"So, how are you doing?" Therese asked. She was visibly pale and barely wore makeup.

Aly sighed, "Hanging on. My support has been great. It's just tough."

"Aly. I'm just so sorry. I can't believe he did this to you. I...I didn't know," Therese teared up.

"Shh, honey. No one knew. You could have never guessed. We're all in shock. What are you going to do now?" Aly replied.

Therese shrugged, "The girls love New York, but I want to go home to Sweden. I really haven't decided."

Charlise ran over to Aly, "Are you feeling better? We miss you!"

"Aw angel, I'll be better soon. It'll take time," Aly said. She couldn't tell a five-year-old what her father did.

"Good because we want you back!" Charlise exclaimed.

Aly took a deep breath, "I know you do."

Later that night, Chris brought home some Chinese food. He knew Aly was still a bit shaken about going out, but was slowly getting her back into it. He took her to Herald Square the other day as well as the big Victoria's Secret on 34th street. She just feared tomorrow.

"I'm going to be sitting right behind you and the lawyer. It's going to be okay," Chris reassured, eating some lo mein noodles.

Aly played with her rice, "I certainly hope so. I'm so scared."

"There is security all over. He won't hurt you again," Chris added.

Aly scooted closer, "You've been my rock and I need that."

Chris placed the food on the ottoman, then leaned in and kissed her, "Would some making love help?"

"Maybe just some making out?" Aly suggested.

"Anything for you," Chris smiled. He put on the fireplace, some romantic music, then took his girl to a lover's paradise all without leaving Manhattan. Tomorrow would be yet another emotional day, but with the guidance and support she had behind her, Aly could best this.
