The Coworker

Two

Was Bri nervous about her new position with the Pens? Of course she was. She was more scared of what Sidney might say or do. But she tried pleasing Sidney before and look where that got her. She needed to do something for herself and this opportunity was a great way to start.

While she was at the game in Toronto she ran into Mario who conveniently was there and he pulled her aside to offer her the job. She wouldn’t be lying if she said she didn’t take Sidney’s feelings into consideration a little bit, but at the same time she knew she couldn’t let him stop her from this dream opportunity.

After the way things ended between them she knew he had no right to stop her from doing anything. He doesn’t deserve the right to feel upset about absolutely anything about their situation. He didn’t care about her and she knew it. So why should she?

The move to Pittsburgh yet again was filled with several emotions. She was excited for the new journey, sad to leave her family, dreading the drive and unpacking process alone, yet so happy. And no matter how hard she tried nothing would stop her.

The class wasn’t as painful as she assumed it would be. The rookies already had a class with her privately so she was more comfortable in front of the whole team. Plus she had familiar faces in the room that had no idea she would be here but were thrilled to see her. I’m sure she’ll be getting some messages from her mini friend group in Pittsburgh as soon as possible.

At the end of the class they were all escorted to the underground parking lot for them to leave. Some of the staff and players were mingling while Bri chatted silently with Marc-Andre about her return.

“So are you nervous?”

“Not really. I guess I feel pretty comfortable with the whole thing. Helps that at least you guys were excited to see me,” she laughed, scratching the back of her head uncomfortably.

“Of course we are. I mean, I’m not sure how Sid feels but he doesn’t matter,” Flower joked to lighten the mood.

“Oh, I’m sure it does,” she plead. “He’s the golden child. And I’m pretty sure Mario didn’t know about our blowout when he hired me so I have to act normal in front of Sidney even though he’s going to act cold to me.”
“I don’t think he will. I think he’ll keep it professional in front of everyone.”

“That’s true, but the second everyone leaves…”

“Oh yeah, you’re screwed. He seems so bitter towards you, and I mean, I don’t know what happened but I just don’t get it.”

“Neither do I.”

But that’s the thing that no one could understand, not even Sid himself. He couldn’t stand there and socialize and pretend to be fine. He just wanted to drive home and be alone for a bit to process the chaotic thoughts in his mind.

Sid is a bundle of emotions. He’s happy to see her, yet sad because he know damage has been done and nothing can be repaired. He’s thrilled to see she got a dream job, but he’s damn spiteful and hurt that she chose to work for the Penguins. By her exposing him and his team to the world in the way he did is the reason why they aren’t together now.

The drive home for him was silent yet so explosively loud in thought. “How could she do that to me,” was the one sentence he kept replaying in his head like a broken record player. The feeling of betrayal washed over his body like a rip tide. He wasn’t sure if angry was even a way to describe how he feels about it.

Bri on the other hand felt slightly empowered to see him and know just how uncomfortable he was by being in her presence. She knew she had the upper hand and maybe that intimidated the mighty Sidney Crosby. But that didn’t matter to her one bit. All she has to do is show up and look good, and know she has the power.

But with that being said she can’t be too confident just yet, because the way Sidney plays is at the grip of her hands. She knows he can be a slightly emotional player and knows she has to be careful at playing with his emotions unintentionally. She can’t be held responsible for his playing style and she doesn’t know if he’s going to blame her as an excuse or not.

All she does know is that when she gets home that she can’t wait to get home and unwind. Today was a tense day for her and she needs a well deserved break.

When she got home and got changed into her comfy clothes she checked her phone. It wouldn’t stop blowing up with messages from her girlfriends on social media asking for her new phone number and begging to get together to catch up. Little do they know, she’ll be seeing them later this week at Mario’s annual pre-season BBQ.

Little do they also know, it’s being thrown at Sidney’s house instead.

Are any of these stories ever going to be updated? I know it is fiction and I am new to all this but it is frustrating to read through these stories and find very few of them completed! And when you do complete them the ending is either sad or a cliffhanger! If this seems harsh I apologize but you do say you want feedback!

Aw update soon please :) x

This story is seriously my favorite. I’m glad that she’s able to joke around with him, but also know that she needs to keep her guard up. I’m also glad that he told her the truth about dinner and didn’t try to hide it. I hope they get together in the end, but he definitely has a lot of making up to do.
