New Year's Eve: Chicago Style!

*ANNIE'S POV*

As I got off the barstool, I felt Duncan's hand on my lower back guiding me across the floor to where the others were gathered. As soon as we got there, a champagne flute was placed in my hand and everyone started getting excited. I on the other hand was starting to shake in my booties. I took a huge gulp of the bubbly liquid which caused Duncan to chuckle beside me. This was never supposed to happen. I was supposed to be able to skip thru life without having to come face to face with my denial. So maybe I had a crush on him. I mean, look at him, who wouldn't think he was insanely attractive. But, I never acknowledged it, sure as hell never said that out loud. That was what allowed us to continue being friends and not have things turn awkward. Now, I was going to have to face it, and I felt as though everyone was staring at us. Jon and Brent kept smirking in our direction, while Kaner more like glared with an evil smile at me. I wanted to run, but Duncan's hand on my back kept me firmly in place and reminded me he was there. I couldn't help but think that it just felt right the way he had me pressed against his side. Like he had been doing it for years, which he kind of had been. He had been doing it since we met, he automatically took on the role of my protector so to speak. It felt like it was the most natural thing in the world, being by his side. Almost like I belonged there. As the countdown began, my blood pressure began to skyrocket and my eyes went wide again, so much for my liquid courage. I forced a smile on my face and my inner monologue took over.
