Moving up to the NHL

Nervousness

Tristan is coming over tonight. I wonder how this is going to go. My brother just came back from his "girlfriends" house. You know how third graders are. That isn't a real relationship. He probably heard that I'm having Tristan come over, so he wants to be here. My brother isn't used to seeing me bring guys around, so he is a little over protective. Of course he is only nine. I understand that he doesn't want me to get hurt, but I can do some things for myself. If Tristan wasn't a good guy, I would not have invited him over to meet my family and I wouldn't even be dating him. I have had a history with bad guys, but that's a story for some other time. I just hope nobody gets in Tristan's head. I don't want them to scare him away.
"Natalie, when is this guy supposed to be here?" asks my brother as he walks up behind me as I set the table.
"He will be here in a minute. Do not terrorize him."
"If he is the Penguins goaltender, it would be tough to terrorize him. Of course, that would be easy for me," says my brother as he turns and walks into the living room.
"Mom, this is a bad idea."
"Honey, don't worry. This will go along better than you think," says my mom as she puts the ham on the table. She made a brown sugar ham, baked potatoes, corn, and banana bread. This is probably the best dinner I have had in a long time, besides the dates that I had with Tristan.
"Mom, there is something to worry about. They are going to scare him away."
"No, they won't. Trust me. If Tristan really does love you, he will stay. I have delt with guys that wanted just sex and others that were scared away by your grandma and grandpa. Tristan seems like a gentleman."
"He really is which is why I don't want dad or Jason to scare him."
"They won't. If they try, I will tell them to be nice and respectful when we have a guest in the house. They know better anyways."
"I'll go outside and wait for Tristan," I say as I finish setting the table and head out the door to sit on the porch. I just had to escape the house. I just need some time to think. There is such a wonderful sunset tonight. It almost takes all the stress and fear of having my dad and brother around Tristan. Like I said previously, dad teased me about liking Tristan as my favorite goalie without knowing that we would actually get together. I am still really surprised that Tristan asked me out. Speak of the devil, he just pulled in the driveway. He notices me just sitting there staring at the sky.
"Hey, you look like you're in deep thought," he says as he approaches me on my porch.
"I was," I chuckle as I stand up to hug him.
"Thinking about what?"
"How my dad and brother are going to act tonight. Don't worry, if they say anything, they don't mean it."
"I know your dad is tough, but what about your brother?"
"It's hard to say. He is protective of me too and he is only nine…"
"I understand that."
"Just be yourself and I'm sure they will like you."
I take his hand and lead him inside. My dad and brother are sitting on the couch watching the Rangers play the Flyers. They don't even look at us. Of course, they have to be disrespectful to Tristan and root for the Flyers. They know how big the Penguins rivalry is with them. My mom just smiles and walks over to us as she puts the food on the table.
"I should apologize to you guys about what happened at the mall. I scolded my husband the whole ride home," says my mom as she finishes setting the table.
"It's okay. He's just looking out for her," says Tristan as we sit at the table. My dad and brother head over and sit down. We all fix our plates. My dad and brother look like they are in a bad mood.
"So, Tristan, how is hockey going?" asks my mom trying to start a conversation.
"Going pretty good. We are on a winning streak right now," says Tristan as my dad just stares him down. My brother is too focused on his food to even care. My mom just looks at my dad with a death glare. He is being so immature right now. I understand he wants to protect me, but there is nothing to protect me from.
"How big is your rivalry with the Flyers " asks my dad as he just stares down at his plate and starts to eat his ham.
"Very big. We are both Pennsylvania teams so every time we play, it's a battle of Pennsylvania," says Tristan as my dad just nods his head.
"I have also heard from some coworkers that the Flyers are mean to you guys. I suggest you all grow up and act like men."
"RICHARD!" shouts my mom. That not only was meant for Tristan, but for the rest of the team.
"Dad really? Have you not seen how those Flyers play against the Pens? Oh wait, yes you have. That first game that we saw this season."
"Do not disrespect our guest again," says my mom through her teeth. "Sorry about that Tristan. Anyways, when do you play the Flyers again?"
"Next month. I gave you tickets to that one, right?"
"Yes, and Richard is going. Jason too. We are all going to cheer on the Pens whether they like it or not. They have no choice."
"May I be excused?" asks Jason as he pushes his plate away and gets out of his chair. My mom nods and he goes back to watching the game that him and dad were watching before dinner. My dad follows him into the living room. Seems like they just want to get away from this situation. The three of us finish eating and then we help mom clean up the mess.
"I'm going to head to the bathroom. I will be right back," I say as I run up the stairs to the bathroom. I got a sudden urge to pee all of a sudden. Mom and Tristan are still downstairs washing the dishes.

Tristan's POV
I watch as Natalie runs up the stairs. This is very awkward staying down here, alone, with her parents and brother. Jason already went over his ten rules and that terrified me.
Now, I have no idea how I am going to tell Natalie my very sad news...

Notes

I am almost done with this story. I will do a sequal. I know exactly how I want to end this story and start the sequal. I would like suggestions. I will need a title for the next story.
