This Is Where It Begins
How Could You Leave
"Jon, I'm not going to do the chemotherapy." Trinity spoke, breaking the long and awkward silence as they sat on the bed in Jonathan's bedroom.
"What!" His blue-gray eyes met hers, practically piercing her as she saw the shock in his eyes. "You have too, this isn't just a cold, Trin. People die from leukemia."
"The chemo will kill our baby! Our unborn son!" Trinity responded, tears pooling in her eyes.
"Keyword there is 'unborn'. We could always have more children, instead of you playing Russian Roulette with your life!" Jonathan's voice raised, the muscles in his face becoming more visible as he tried to reason with his fiancée.
"Jonathan! How could you say that! Getting pregnant in the first place was a miracle Jon! You know I struggle with infertility issues, getting pregnant again could be a gamble! I would rather die than take an unborn infants life. He wouldn't even be given a chance!" Trinity yelled at him, tears streaming down her face, her mascara traveling down her face with the tears.
"So you would die for a child you may never get to know? Leave me alone? Leave our son motherless? You would rather die for a person you don't know, than stay living with your Husband? You'd leave me, after I've given you everything." Jonathan's fists clenched, which slightly frightened Trinity, though she could see the pain on his face.
"I can't deal with the guilt of killing a baby! Why can't you understand that Jon?" She buried her head in her palms, not being able to meet his gaze.
"Because I love you too much to let you kill yourself! I cannot live without you, Trin." He put his hand on her shoulder as she tried to leave, pulling her back. He choked on his words, tears brimming his eyes.
"Yeah you can. You've lived 26 years without me." She responded bitterly, shaking off his hand, opening the door to his penthouse, and closed it without looking back.
The red glint of a garnet encased in silver lay on the hardwood floor. The engagement ring he had given Trinity. He picked it up, running his thumb over the cursive engraved letters:TB & JM.
She left it intentionally, she lefthim.
A tear ran down his cheek, falling onto the floor. Everything used to be perfectly fine, and now everything went to hell.
