AAOOOSC! All-Stars!

On the Loose! (Pt. 2)

Sidney Crosby peers through the gaping hole, into the ice resurfacer’s tunnel, in surprise. “Wow...that was one deranged car…”

The fallen board flies into the opening and fits itself into place, obscuring the view.

Sebastian Aho drifts away, keeping his palms toward the boards as wind whips around it. Jack Eichel brakes next to the boards and throws blades through the board’s and surrounding boards’ edges like a needle, holding it in place.

Jack gazes at his work, spinning a blade in his hand before slipping it out of sight. “Hopefully that keeps the boards up for a bit…” He whirls around and skates past the two. “I don’t wanna pay for any damages...”

Sidney turns around and follows him.

Instantly, the boards slam back onto the ice.

Patrik Laine strolls onto the ice with his empty waffle cone in his hand. His eyes sparkle at the ice laid out before him. He kneels and begins scraping his hand at the ice and scooping the bits into his cone.

Sebastian swings his hand at the fallen board, tossing it back in place with a gust of wind. He then directs the wind to secure the blades.

Sidney wades through the crowd of power players that have gathered on the ice in their All-Star game equipment.

He brakes in brakes in the middle of the ice and shouts, “Alright, everyone gather around! We must put our heads together to figure out why the car went berserk!”

Everyone quiets down and drifts over to him in a semicircle. Patrik continues gathering ice in his cone.

“It must’ve been a blunder,” John Tavares speaks up.

John Gibson shoots him a look of confusion. “A what?”

He groans and shoots him a flat look. “A miswiring.”

Braden Holtby shrugs with a frown aimed at him. “I dunno, cars don’t go plowing through boards and down the streets, even after its tires have been ripped off, due to one miswire.”

Joe Pavelski gazes around the power players in his sight with a hand on his facial hair-covered chin. “Who here can control cars?”

Sidney turns to him. “Larkin does—”

Thomas juts his spear in the air and bellows, “So, it’s LARKIN!”

“But he’s not here,” Nathan tells him with an annoyed look.

“Oh.” Thomas lowers his spear and dematerializes.

“Who else can control cars?” Joe asks the others around him.

“No one else,” Sidney pipes up with a shrug. “Now, how else can a car be manipulated?”

“Aerokinesis.” Mat Barzal eyes Sebastian, who is behind him.

Sebastian narrows his eyes and drifts behind the crowd, out of his sight.

Marc-André Fleury frowns with a shake of his head. “I sensed no wind around the car.”

“Telekinesis,” Clayton states with a hand on his hip.

Sidney presses his lips at him. “That’s not a team power for any NHL team.”

“Okay, electrokinesis?”

“That’s the team power of a team…” Sidney then gapes with wide eyes. He swishes his head around.

Ice builds around his feet and pushes upward, guiding him above the crowd.

He gazes down at each power player in sight. “Does anyone know where—”

Darkness floods into the room. Screams echo throughout the blackness.

“AAAHHH!!!”

“Oh, SHUT UP!” Jack’s voice echoes. “We got a light power player here!”

The screams die down. A pale yellow orb of light then appears and drifts upward, shedding a soft spotlight on the huddled power players.

Miro lowers one hand and keeps the other up. “I can take the blame—”

“Shhh!” Sebastian snaps at him with a finger against his lips. “You didn’t do it!”

“I’ll be more than happy to take it…,” a familiar voice crackles from behind them.

Everyone spins on their skates’ blades and peers up.

Steven Stamkos lowers himself from the ceiling. Blue-outlined lightning zaps and pops between him and the screens wrapped around the bottom of the suite level, suspending him in the air.

“...because everyone already knows it’s me.”

He halts in the air, above the first level and in front of the suite level, to loom above the power players on the ice.

Sidney frowns and wags his finger at him. “Right. Your naughty, naughty tricks during the power player matches.” He puts his hands on his hips. “We should’ve known.”

“You’re lucky I spared you all before the All-Star,” Steven remarks.

Elias Pettersson scrunches his face. “Because I haven’t played against you yet.”

The Lightning power player sighs. “Or sparing you guys right now… Because I can charge—” He juts his palms with leaping bolts out at them. “—you all with electricity and miswire your powers!”

Braden throws his hands above him. A red-colored force field forms around the power players, like a dome.

“No, Stamkos,” the goalie barks, “you’re not!”

Steven pulls his hands away. “Oh no, I wouldn’t do it right now. Where’s all the fun with no one around?” He gazes around the empty seats in the audience.

“You drove them out with your car scare,” Nathan remarks with a frown.

“Ah, right.” Steven fiddles with his fingers as electricity dances around them. “But that’s only half the fun.” He snaps his small eyes back at them. “The other half is watching you all fall one-by-one…” A mischievous smile creeps onto his face. “...until I give to my team what they deserve: victory in all games!”

He then thrusts his hands above him, having electricity attach onto the ceiling; he snaps his arms down to his side. The popping bolts spread across the ceiling, ripping a hole in the ceiling, like opening a bag of chips.

The lightning then swirls around his legs and propels him through the hole and out of sight.

All the power players gawk at the hole displaying the night sky. Braden drops his hands, letting the force field flicker and disappear.

“Really?” Jack exclaims. “We have to fix that too?”

Pekka drifts up to him. “I’ll help ya with that.”

With a sigh, Jack climbs into his arms. Pekka increases in size, reaching up to the torn damage in the ceiling.

Sidney gazes at the damage with a frown from his towering platform of ice.

Leon Drastil skates up to him. “So what to do, Crosby?”

Thomas brakes next to him and pumps his spear into the air. “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!”

Sidney whirls to them and barks, “No!”

The ice below him lowers itself onto the ice rink’s level, returning its owner onto the same ice as his fellow power players.

He gazes up at them and pounds a fist into his palm. “If we fight against Stamkos, he’ll ruin our powers like what he did to the other power players!”

Nathan furrows his eyebrows at him. “So...we’re just gonna let him get away?”

He drops his hands and replies calmly, “We’ll warn Gorman. It’s the best we can do without harming our powers. We can’t do this rashly. Okay?”

The power players mutter among themselves. Pekka and Jack return onto the ice. They then turn to the leader with various looks of understanding.

Sidney gives them a curt nod. “Okay. Let’s go, boys.” He places his hands on his hips. “Our part in the All-Star weekend is over.” He then skates to the away bench and lumbers into the tunnel.

The others follow him, into both the home tunnel and away tunnel, depending on which division they are in.

Before Miro steps onto the bench, he spins around and lowers his ball from across the rink. Its rays shine down on Patrik, who is still busy packing ice into his soggy waffle cone.

Miro frowns at him with pity, “Aw, Patrik…” He glides over to him and kneels beside him. “Lopeta jään naarmuuntuminen. Saamme jäätelöä yhdessä, okei?” Don’t pick at the ice. We’ll get ice cream together, okay?

Patrik makes a confused grunt and turns his head to him. “Eh?”

“Joo, jäätelö?” Yeah, ice cream?

The bearded man nods with a toothy grin plastered on his stringy beard.

“Okei, mennään!” Okay, let’s go!

Miro then helps him to his feet. With the bright orb following them, the two make their way across the ice, into the bench, and disappear in the tunnel. The ball of light slips into the tunnel, plunging the arena back into its darkness.

The End.
