His Teammate's Sister

Chapter 18, Part One

Aly and Chris informed the team that Francesca was willing to talk in order to get a plea deal from the Manhattan District Attorney's office, so they immediately flew home to handle things. Coach Quinn gave the couple his blessing and inserted Brendan Lemieux on the top line in Chris' place. Everyone was on edge, but it was a relief to know that the police were finally going to have their suspect behind bars soon.

The couple arrived at the Midtown South police precinct on 35th street, along with their attorney. Despite being surrounded by cops at every angle, Aly was nervous as one could be. She was face-to-face with her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend, one that is accused of killing her.

The head police chief walked over to Aly and Chris, "Francesca asked if her attorney and psychiatrist could sit in as well, and we allowed it."

"Thank you, sir. We're ready as soon as you are," Chris stated.

Aly, Chris and their attorney went into the interrogation room, with the cops listening and watching in from their captain's office, which had a window to allow full viewing. The captain turned up to volume to hear.

"Christopher, Alyson, I see you made it home from Vegas alright. What is it that you want to know?" Mr. Russo, Francesca's attorney, asked.

Aly looked at him, "Everything. Go as slow or as fast as you want, I just want answers."

Francesca nodded at her attorney before turning back to Aly and Chris, "I can admit, I have extreme jealousy issues. Chris was my first love and I always believed we were going to marry, have babies, and live in New York and Boston forever. We had amazing times together in the nearly five years we dated, but I just got so angry when he dumped for good, that it killed me to see him move on...and so soon. I just had to get the new girl out of the picture because I wanted Chris back."

Chris nodded, "And then what?"

"Well, I worked for that company that allowed me special access to certain chemicals. After I left them for my new job, I still kept my IDCard that allowed me inside the facility, and I saw a small bottle of arsenic, so I snuck it out. I knew it was the perfect solution and I know Aly goes to the Starbucks on 31st street almost every day, so that morning before practice, I followed you both. I knew one of the baristas so I hid until you guys ordered and gave the barista the arsenic bottle and paid her $500 to do this," Francesca admitted.

Aly sighed, "Francesca, we need a name. Who did this?"

"I want to tell you, but you'll never believe me," Francesca said.

Chris scoffed, "Frannie, we need to know. Do we know this person by any chance?"

"Mhm hmm, yes you do. I just don't want to go to jail," Francesca worried.

Aly and Chris' attorney stepped in, "I can recommend 18 months in jail, a year in a mental hospital, and a 200-feet restraining order from the couple. Francesca, this person you're protecting will serve a lot more jail time, but you could face the same if you don't take the deal."

Francesca nodded, "It...it was Kelly, Jacob's fiancee."

Aly's mouth was on the floor, "What!? My future sister-in-law? Jake would never believe this."

"She told me she was tired of you getting all the attention and she was pissed that the Rangers hired you to be the team reporter because New York was supposed to be their journey and not have you tag along. Aly, Chris, I'm so sorry," Francesca cried.

The couple went into the police captain's office and everyone was in the same state of shock. The police captain looked at the couple, "Now what? We have to find her."

"Jacob claimed her parents haven't spoken to her in weeks. I don't know where Kelly could be. I haven't even talked to her in a while because her PHD dissertation was taking up all her time," Aly answered.

The captain looked at his squad, "Smith, Young, you check Jacob and Kelly's apartment. Monroe, Lightfoot, go to her school. Her professors have to know something. Meanwhile, Aly and Chris, we will assist the Rangers front office and keeping your security detail on 24/7. Stay safe until we inform you Kelly has been caught."

After the officers were done at the apartment, Aly headed inside to get some last minute things before going back to Chris' with him. She was still in shock that Kelly would betray her in such a heartbreaking way. While packing her duffel bag, Aly heard someone in the doorway, "Chris, I'm almost done. Go back to the car."

"It's not Chris," a voice said.

Aly turned around and saw Kelly with a knife, "Kelly!? Where have you been? The police have been looking for you! Why would you try to kill me!?"

Kelly walked over and pulled Aly by her hair but using the hand with the knife in it, to hold it against Aly's throat so she wouldn't scream, "Come with me, let's chat."

Bet you didn't see that coming!?
