Eclipse

Chapter 5

I just stared at Tyler.

"I-I don't know if I ever loved you..." Tyler trailed off silently. I stood up a minute later and just left.

I left Tyler, (my hot chocolate), and being able to love again at Starbucks. I decided at that moment, that I would never fall for someone again. True, it was only my fourth relationship, but each one had ended with a breakup. So what was the point in falling in love if you only get your heart broken afterwards?

I climbed into my Prius and drove away, leaving a defeated Tyler to watch me leave and never turn back.

When I got home, I skipped dinner. I headed straight to my small basement, where I made sure every piece of equipment was ready for tomorrow's practice before I went up two flights of stairs, got ready for bed, and fell into an uneasy sleep.

(The next part of this story is all a dream, however, I will tell you when it goes back to normal life)

I looked around the ice rink. It was during a game and we were losing 2-1.

I looked at my jersey to see the sign of an angry eagle on the front.

Shit, I thought. I'm back in highschool.

Before I could do anyhting, the other team, the dreaded Warriors, were skating sown the ice towards our zone.

I saw the snarling face of Noah Bachlef coming down with the puck towards me.

I made the same move as I did the night we had played this game: a check into the boards.

I took the puck from Bachlef and passed it to the left wing and they made there way back down the ice, into the other zone.

I heard the same feared words as said before, "Watch your back."

A period of the game passed and it was 2-2. I was in possession of the puck =, having just recieved a pass from the our goalie as I skated around behind him.

Suddenly a large deadweight slammed into my side, sending me into the glass.

The moment I hit the glass, I heard a crack from the glass and a snap in my side that had been hit. The glass shattered and rained down on Bachlef and me, and I felt sharp stings as it shredded my jersey and tore my skin that wasn't protected from padding.

I slumped down and everything went black after the intense pain in my side hit, making it hard to breathe.

(end of dream and Lexi wakes up)

I woke up with a start. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was 5:18 AM and I sighed.

I obviously wasn't going to sleep again no matter what, so I heaved myself out of bed, got changed into Nike shorts and a top, and headed to the kitchen.

I ate a breakfast of Honey Nut Cheerios quickly before I went into the basement and chaecked over my gear twice, just to be sure it was there and ready to go.

I went back upstairs to the bathroom and took a quick shower, left my hair down but brushed it, brushed my teeth, and put on a better pair of black shorts and a light blue top.

I checked the clock again. 6:45.

"Ugh, better just go now... Maybe the staff will let me in to practice.." I muttered to myself as I packed my equipment and skates into my bag.

I lugged my bag out to the car and put it in my trunk. I slammed the trunk shut and went around to get in the driver's seat. I quickly turned the key and started the car up. I gave it a few minutes to warm up before I drove to the United Center.

On the way, the thought of Tyler drifted into my mind, the first time since he said he didn't love me.

"Ty... why did you have to make it so hard?" I sighed as I pulled into the parking lot and turned the car off.

People walking with their winter jackets on might've wondered why a young woman was without jacket and wearing a short sleeve t-shirt with shorts in the middle of December, but I wouldn't have been able to solve their question for me.

Maybe my mind had been thinking about Tyler this whole time, and since the pain of breaking up with him was tough, it just decided to put me through bitter-freezing cold carrying a heavy bag of hockey equipment to the doors of the United Center. I honestly didn't know why I was wearing something I'd wear during summer.

When I entered, I was greeted by a rush of warmer air. I looked around the place and saw that Coach Quenneville was already here, what with his office door left wide open with the lights on.

"Coach Quenneville?" I asked nervously, and I recieved no answer.

"Coach Quenneville?" I asked a bit louder. This time my question was answered with a loud voice saying, "Talumet, come in here!" The voice was coming from a door farther down the hallway, so I walked down and looked nervously inside the large room to find Coach Q standing over by a dry-erase board.

"Put your stuff in that empty stall," Coach Q said as he signaled to a stall next to Ray Emery's currently empty stall.

I went over to the empty stall and put my stuff down before turning to Coach Q who was thinking about the lineups that were shown on the board.

"I'll leave you in here to get changed. When you're done feel free to go on the ice, shoot around and stretch for a bit. The guys should be here soon, so take your time," Coach Q said before he exited the room and turned in the direction of his office.

I changed into my under armor shirt and shorts before puling on all of my equipment, with the helmet last. I grabbed my stick and went through the door at the opposite end of the room.

The tunnel was dark, but it was a rather short tunnel. I stepped around the bench and onto the ice. I looked around at the huge stadium surrounding the rink, with all of the seats and steps.

"Wow..." I breathed. I stepped onto the ice and skated a few laps before I heard pucks fall onto the ice and someone step onto the ice.

"So you're the player from the Wolves who was chosen?" said and awfully deep and familiar voice.

I turned to see none other than Noah Bachlef galring at me from across the ice.

Notes

Okay, I know that there is no Noah Bachlef or girl on the Blackhawks, but I wanted to add a twist to it!
And, obviously, the chapter is longer.
