Cellphones: Texts & Calls (ON-HOLD)

Drunk Calls

I could hardly remember anything. The alcohol in my mouth was all I knew was real. The burning whiskey was refreshing and I only wanted more, but Lupes wouldn't let me. He of course, being the responsible one, sent me home after a few too many. Sure he was looking out for me, but I just needed to forget. I didn't like him being the buzz kill all the time, but he was a true friend.

I stormed into Joffrey and I's apartment. My balance wasn't exactly perfect right now. Since I was drunk I didn't even take off my shoes, or jacket. Joffrey ordered, "Go to bed." I just waved it off and went to my room.

These were times I wish Yasmine was still with me. God, why did she have to do that to me? Now there was a hole in my heart that wouldn't ever be filled, or so I thought. I took out my wallet and phone from my pocket and put it on my night stand. I threw my jacket on the ground and got changed. After nearly falling over twenty times, I was finally wearing pajama pants.

I sat on my bed and picked up my phone. The sound of my door opening caused me to look up. Joffrey stood in the door way. He was wearing shorts and some Leafs shirt. "Hey Naz, I'm going to pass out now. You better go to fucking sleep." He laughed by himself, "Your hangover tomorrow is going to be wicked, buddy." I just smirked. That was true.

"Fuck, I know. But alright, d-don't worry." I slurred, as Joffrey shut the brown-wooden door.

I opened my phone and surfed Twitter, and read some direct messages from friends of mine. Nothing being said seemed important to me. I decided to take a look at my contacts. I stumbled upon one of my old teammates at the World Juniors' number. He was now playing in Edmonton, but that didn't matter.

I called the number at 4 o'clock in the damn morning. It had to be at least 2am over there. The phone rang four times before being answered. I started to say, "Hey Hallsy, how's it fucking going in Edmonton? Are the girls good over there? They can't be as bad as the ones in Regina." I asked, being a total pig. That's what was considered normal for hockey players. The female species was the talk of the locker room.

There was silence for a bit. "Uh, I don't know how the girls are over here. Maybe you should ask this Hallsy you're trying to call, you damn pig." A girl spoke with disgust in her voice. I was caught off guard as I cringed my nose in confusion.

"Um, excuse me?" I started to sober up slowly. Who ever this girl was, she got me going.

She groaned, angrily. "You have the wrong number." She muttered through the telephone. I laid on my bed, with the phone attached to my ear. I wasn't letting up anytime soon.

"How about we make this the right number?" My drunk side was coming out again. I thought I could be smooth, but she was just getting more annoyed with each word I spoke. It turned me on though.

"Who is this? This better not be Tyson." She bitterly spoke. From what it sounded she was awaken by my call.

"No my names not Tyson but, If I tell you my name, will you tell me yours?" I asked, with a grin on my face. My words were a little slurred, but I got them out. I had a strong feeling that I was the only one enjoying this right now.

She let out a sigh in defeat, "Fine." I smiled to myself. I was some what proud.

"I'm Nazem, and you are?" I asked trying to be a drunken gentleman. I hoped that she would let her guard down. Personally, I had nothing better to do. I enjoyed talking to her, it was entertaining.

She took long to answer, but she finally did. "I'm Peyton, and it's nice talking to you Nazem. I was going to ask you where you're calling from, because it's not from Edmonton." She responded.

I didn't know how to answer. What if she knew it was me? "Uh, Toronto."

"That explains it. But hey, I can tell you're annihilated. I'm going to let you go to bed and wake up to a killer hang over." She joked with an adorable laugh.

I chuckled as well. "Thanks a lot. I actually wanted to ask you why your number is my friends number?" I asked before she hung up. I could tell by the freedom in her voice that she was more open to me.

"I recently got my number changed to this. Your friend probably has a different number." She suggested.

"Oh I see." I paused for a while, "Do you think that I could call you maybe tomorrow or something?" I knew that I was pushing it, but it was worth a shot. I mean I did just meet the girl over the telephone, what if she was old? The worst thing could be, if she was some crazy lady. I thought to myself, Nazem what have you got yourself into.

Her laugh was so angelic. "If you even remember."

"That's good enough for me! Goodnight, Peyton." I spoke with a smile whipping across my face.

"Goodnight." She whispered a little quieter, "God I hope you're not a weirdo..." She then hung up and I was left stunned. The feeling of being drunk was gone. Her voice and thoughts in my head made it all clear.

I couldn't even sleep.

"Peyton's" POV.

I was awaken by some asshole calling me at two o'clock in the morning. For some reason when I answered the phone, it was someone unexpected. I had no clue who it was and I found myself in a conversation with a man from Toronto, named Nazem. After that he had me.

I laid there restlessly. I didn't know what to think or do anymore. My mind was focused on him and his beautiful soft spoken voice. I figured that he wouldn't call me back. You could tell by her relentless slurs that he was under the influence. Raisa, what were you thinking? I thought to myself in utter stupidity.

Nazem's POV.

The migraine I had right now wasn't doing me justice. I didn't want to get up or move for that matter right now. My head was pounding. I now felt that I should have listened to the guys.

"Kadri, get out of bed! We have practice in an hour and a half!" Lupes yelled from what probably was the kitchen. I decided that it would be smart to finally get up.

I sat on my bed and stretched. I was wearing pajama pants without a shirt on. I grabbed some clothes and went into my washroom. I turned on the water and threw it on my face. It was refreshing and helped the headache a bit. Afterwards I got changed and went into the kitchen to find some breakfast made by Joffrey Lupul, amateur chef. There were eggs, toast, hash browns and juice on the counter for me.

"How's the hangover?" Joffrey asked with a shit eating grin. To me it wasn't that funny because the headache killed me.

I sighed as I shoved food in my face. "It's fucking awful. I wish I didn't drink." I answered after washing my hash browns down with some orange juice.

"I warned you, bud." Joffrey shrugged.

"I know, but I just wanted to drink. I didn't want to think about her. I mean fuck her, right?" I said as I tried to make myself feel better.

Lupul sighed as he cleaned up the lkitchen. "Naz, just forget about her. Yasmine cheated on you with Luke, and she totally lied to your face. At least Luke told you, and he was drunk. She was completely sober. It was the right thing to do to leave her, whether it made you sad or not. Cheer up, they'll be other girls. You're Nazem Kadri! You're leading in Leaf points right now." Joffrey tried to boost my spirits. I heard it quite a bit from the guys since Yas and I split. I've been with her since we were sixteen. She's all I've known.

I smiled at my good friend. "Yeah, thanks man. But that is kind of the problem. I am Nazem Kadri, and that's what they always see when they meet me." I responded, being honest. He knew how hard it was trying to find a relationship when you're playing hockey, especially in a shortened-season.

"You'll find the future Ms. Kadri someday, just like how I'll find the future Ms. Lupul." He joked and I just laughed.

"We're losers and never going to find people to love us."

"Not with that attitude!"

We laughed out loud.
