My Gold Medal

Zinoviya and Alexander

I got ready for the opening ceremony in my room. I had the red and white jacket on with Russia printed on the back. I waited around in the unseen section of the dome. People were running around me and seemed to be cluttered. I wasn't placed anywhere specific as I wasn't competing in anything as a team.

I just thought about the competition I was having tomorrow. I'd be going up against my old nemesis but good friend from Germany and some American that I do not know.

People were all around me. A ton of Russians who were here to represent their country were standing proud, with bright smiles imprinted on their faces. I was always kind of quiet. I was tapped on the shoulder by someone so I turned around. I found a blonde girl staring at me with a smile and her hand in front of me indicating she wanted to handshake.

"I'm Zinoviya," she said as she shook my hand.

"Ekaterina," I responded with a small smile.

"I just wanted to introduce myself because my friend Evgeni said he knew you. I play for the Women's Russia Ice Hockey team. I'm the captain," She gushed. I took it that she was very proud to be the captain. I would be too because out of your whole team your labelled as their leader.

Zinoviya pointed to where her team was located. It was right next to the men's hockey team. I seen one familiar face in the crowd. It was Alexander Ovechkin. He was a complete star back home. I mean everyone knew him as Alexander the Great or Ovi.

"Evgeni, yeah I know him a little. But that's pretty cool that you're playing hockey." Zinoviya was so pretty, her nice blonde hair and dark brown eyes showed it off.

"Oh, so you're not the one he had a date with?" She had a puzzled look on her face. I just stared back at her in confusion. Her smiled wiped away. The music was still playing loudly.

"A date?"

"Da."

"Well, I had dinner with him and two other guys. If that's what you call a date." I laughed and she just smiled again.

"Yeah, you're the one then. He called it a date, but hey Russian men have a strange understanding of a date. They classify the cheapest things as dates," she said with a chuckle at the end. I just smiled at her politeness attitude. It was something I needed after being alone the last two days.

I blushed at the thought of Evgeni calling it a date. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

"You should date Evgeni!" She shrieked rather loudly. I seen Alexander Ovechkin past her smile. I figured he heard that. My face turned pink. He came walking over to our direction. I panicked a little, but I kept my cool.

"Hey!" He yelled into Zinoviya's ear to try scare her. She didn't move, but she did shove him a little after she removed his hands from her shoulders.

"Get out of here, Alex! Go join your silly boys," she teased.

"Why? I wanted to meet your new friend, Zee Zee." He smiled at me. "So I hear that you're being harrassed by the most annoying player on the ice?" He teased as he pushed Zinoviya.

"Ovi, I was not harrassing her! And I'm not the annoying player on the ice, that's you and Komarov! You guys just love to get in peoples faces, and their nerves," She shot back. I admired the two's argument. It was almost like they've been rivals all their life, but true friends at heart.

"Whatever, "date Geno!"" He mimicked and my face immediately went from a light colour to a very deep crimson colour. Alex was grinning at me.

"Well Geno here has a crush on this girl, well my new good friend, Ekaterina!" She exclaimed as she showed me off to him.

"Men don't have crushes like you girls, but I'm Alex," He introduced.

"Nice to meet you. You're Alexander Ovechkin, yeah?"

"The one and only. But for real though, you should date Evgeni. You could get him away from that girl Oksana. She's awful for him." Alex let out a small sigh.

"Is that his girlfriend?" I asked, being a little too nosy. I knew it was none of my business, but I wanted to know. What if Evgeni did end up liking me, while he had a girlfriend? I couldn't let that happen, because if I was on the other line of it I would flip out.

"You could say that."

"They're on and off all the time," Zinoviya explained.

I nodded my head in understandment. "But, I'm going to head back to my group," Alex said. "It was nice meeting you Ekaterina, good luck in the Giant Slalom. See ya, Zee."

My heart had skipped a beat a little bit. Alexander Ovechkin knew what I was competing in. Either he watched me compete before or Evgeni talked to him about me aswell. "Bye Alex," we both said in-sync with little smiles. He waved one last time.

"Vse sportsmeny Rossii, s golovy do osnovnogo tunnelya!" I heard over the loud speaker. Zinoviya looked over at me.

"That's our cue to go." She grabbed my arm. "Come, walk with my group." I felt her tug my arm into another direction.

I went into a place to eat. It was Chinese. After ordering I took a seat alone at a table. As I was about to eat I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out. The screen was bright and it read an unknown number. It was a text message.

I opened it and it read:

Hey Rina! It's Mike, Evgeni's friend but hey I was going to ask if you wanted to hangout tomorrow like just me and you. I would say today but I have a practice this evening

I smiled and thought about it for a while. I replied with:

My english is no nic! Dont laugh))) but I hav snowboard compiton tumorro. How abot I cum to yur prictic?)))))

I started to eat my lunch, as I awaited his reply. After some time he finally responded. I opened it and it read:

I wouldn't ever. Don't worry. :) But yeah sure. If you're not comfortable speaking in English my friend Ilya is with me. He could translate your texts for me. Don't worry, he's not really gonna care what we talk about lol

I was hanging out in Bryzgalov's room. I was laying on his roomate's bed. We were just talking about the hockey in the NHL. At the same time I was talking to Rina. I managed to get her number out of Ovechkin who was persistent not to give it to me.

She finally replied, but this time in a totally different langauge:

YA vrode ne khochu sidet' v odinochestve . Mozhet kto-to so mnoy?

I attempted to read it, but I completely failed. I looked at Bryz, then tossed him the cellphone. "Tell me what she said," I told him, but not sounding rude.

"She wants you to go over to her room and pull some fancy moves in bed," he said simply.

"Shut up, Bryz." It was quiet until I said something again, "Did she really say that?"

He laughed as he threw my phone back. "No, but you should have seen your face when you actually thought she did." I just grinned to myself. "She said she doesn't want to sit alone. She wanted to bring someone."

"Thanks."

I responded with:

Yeah sure, if you want to! :)

Notes

A/N: Okay so I watched the draft today because I am THE BIGGEST Darnell Nurse, Jordan Subban, Seth Jones and Max Domi fan. I was kind of bummed out when neither of them headed to Winnipeg, Toronto or Pittsburgh. But you know. The fact that they passed up on Seth so many times is so silly! He's a such a beauty. But now he can prove people wrong and maybe play with Leipsic in the ville.

Congrats to everyone who got drafted though or traded. We welcome you Bolland!

And S/O to @laughin_lizzy!
