Lie and Tie

Ashley’s POV

He was standing there wrapped in his jacket leaning against his car and looking down. When he heard the door his head instantly snapped up and he smiled at me. I slowly walked over to him and said a nervous and confused hello.

“Hi, Ashley. I uhh hope it’s not an inconvenience or anything but I was wondering if you would come out to dinner with me tonight?” he had clearly been practicing that for a while and he still didn’t have it down which I instantly could tell he was mentally hitting himself over when he winced after saying it. I smiled at him and nodded to which his face instantly lit up and he opened the passenger door for me motioning for me to get in.

When he had gotten in and we started driving I turned to him and asked, “It’s pretty cold outside, how long were you standing out there waiting?”

He looked at me with his wonderful smile before saying, “Not long at all, I had asked your boss for your hours earlier today so that I could be there at the right time.”

That’s when I remembered what Carissa had said earlier and I mentally face palmed myself for thinking about it being Tyler. “Oh? So you’re stalking me now? Should I be scared?” I inquired with a grin.

He feigned a gasp and replied, “Well, obviously you’re not scared considering you got in the car with me.”

“I’d be willing to risk my life for some food right now so I’d probably get in a car with just about anyone.” After my response the short rest of the ride was quiet, but a nice quiet not that awkward get-me-the-hell-out-of-here kind of silence.

When we arrived at the restaurant Tyler immediately jumped out and walked around to my side and opened my door for me. We walked inside and were brought to our table. After staring at the menu for a few minutes I put mine down and looked at him to notice him watching me. I stuck my tongue out at him and he started to laugh. Then he started the conversation, “So twenty questions?”

“Dork.”

He rolled his eyes but continued anyways, “favorite tv show?”

“Hmmm, I hate picking favorites but I’ll go with Survivor. What about you?”

“Friends. Your question.”

“Least favorite thing to watch on tv?”

Tyler’s POV

As soon as I had gotten in the car I made reservations at a nice restaurant, got my car cleaned, showered, and got dressed. I was standing in my room freaking out over if I looked too casual or too formal when Freddy walked in and sat on my bed.

“Hey man where you going?”

“I’m going on a date.” Even though I wasn’t sure whether or not I would be sitting at the restaurant alone or with Ashley, I was not about to tell him I hadn’t actually asked her yet.

“Why are you looking at yourself so skeptical then?” he asked raising an eyebrow.

I sighed defeated, “I haven’t asked her yet and I don’t know if she will say yes or no. On top of that I don’t know if I’m too casual or too formal.” I turned and looked to see him staring at me a little shocked. I groaned and sat down next to him and put my head in my hands.

“Tyler?” I looked up at him waiting for him to continue. “I think you’re stressing too much over this date. Also she must be pretty special if she has you questioning yourself like I’ve never seen you do before. So I’m going to tell you the truth. You look great, if you feel like this right now, before the first date, then there has to be something special there and I doubt she will turn you down.” He started to get up and leave. He turned around at my door and added, “But hey if she turns you down, give me a call and I’ll come join you so you aren’t sitting in some restaurant alone. Good Luck and have a nice date.” He smiled at me before leaving my room and shutting the door behind himself.

I got up and looked in the mirror, smiled, then turned around left my room. On my way out I found Freddy and my dog Marshall on the couch watching a movie. I said bye to them and got in my car.

The entire drive over there I practiced how I would ask her to dinner and when I got there I looked at the clock, it said 5:58. I hopped out of the car and leaned against it waiting.
I was looking at my shoes when I heard the door open and my head snapped up instantly. A massive smile spread across my face when I saw her. She walked up to me a bit hesitantly and said hello nervously.

Now it was my turn to get nervous as I asked her, “Hi, Ashley. I uhh hope it’s not an inconvenience or anything but I was wondering if you would come out to dinner with me tonight?” I winced right after I said it and realized how awful that sounded. Gosh I hope she didn’t notice the wince or anything. Luckily, she just smiled before nodding yes. SCORE!!!! I was so excited. I opened the car door for her motioning for her to get in and out of the cold. I nearly skipped as I walked around and got into the driver’s side.

We had only been driving for a minute when she looked at me and asked, “It’s pretty cold outside, how long were you standing out there waiting?”

I looked at her and smiled because she was so cute when she was concerned. “Not long at all, I had asked your boss for your hours earlier today so that I could be there at the right time.” I replied before putting my attention back on the road.

A minute of silence passed before she spoke up again, “Oh? So you’re stalking me now? Should I be scared?” she said teasingly while grinning at me.

I pretended to gasp before quipping, “Well, obviously you’re not scared considering you got in the car with me.”

She didn’t miss a beat in her response, “I’d be willing to risk my life for some food right now so I’d probably get in a car with just about anyone.” I laughed and after her response the short rest of the ride was quiet, but a nice quiet not that awkward get-me-the-hell-out-of-here kind of silence.

When we got to the restaurant I got out and opened her door for her and we walked in. Once we sat down Ashley started looking at the menu but I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She glanced up and caught me watching her so she stuck her tongue out at me which made me laugh. I loved how childish she could be. That gave me an idea so I asked, “So twenty questions?

“Dork.”

I rolled my eyes and asked the first question, “favorite tv show?”

“Hmmm, I hate picking favorites but I’ll go with Survivor. What about you?”

“Friends. Your question.”

“Least favorite thing to watch on tv?”

Just as I was about to answer the waiter came and took our order. Once he had walked away Ashley asked, “umm what question were we on?” I looked at her in shock and said, “I honestly have no clue. How could we both forget?” we both started laughing.

“ok so what about favorite food?” she asked.

The conversation continued on from there and shortly after, our food came and the conversation died down a bit as we were both pretty hungry. When we were waiting for the waiter to come with our desserts I remembered the question from earlier.

“I remember the question from before the waiter came! It was least favorite tv show.”

She looked at me and laughed, “Oh my god how did we forget that?”

“Well my least favorite thing to watch is probably infomercials. I really just kind of watch anything. What about you?”

After she stopped laughing she looked at me a bit seriously and said, “Hockey. I absolutely refuse to watch, listen to, or talk about hockey. It is just way too brutal and barbaric.”
