Four
Tyler’s POV
I walked into morning skate seriously pumped for the day. The date last night had been so amazing and I was still on a high from it.
“Hey Segs, what’s got you grinning like a fool?” asked Tuukka.
Some of the guys looked at me then Zee jumped in, “You went on a date with that girl didn’t you?” now all the guys were staring at me wide eyed and filled with anticipation.
“Yeah I did and it was the best date ever. Everything was almost perfect.”
Looch raised an eyebrow and said, “What do you mean almost perfect?”
“umm well I mean like-“ “Spit it out already!” Marchy interrupted.
“She absolutely hates hockey and so I told her that I’m an intern at the law firm down the road.” I rushed out and winced when I saw the expressions on the guys faces. They were a mixture of shock, disappointment, and disapproval.
Bergy finally spoke up, “Well at some point you are going to have to tell her the truth and pray she doesn’t dump you or worse that she finds out for herself and has time to think over it before she dumps you. But no one here is going to rat you out so it’s all on your shoulders.”
Looch added, “We will all keep your secret so you can keep the girl because she sounds pretty special based on everything you’ve told us and how you’ve been acting.”
“Thanks guys.”
“What did you tell her about the massive road trip we are going on after tonight’s game?” Tuukka asked.
My eyes widened, “Oh shit, I completely forgot about that! What do I do? What if she thinks I’m trying to avoid her!?” I was starting to panic.
“Relax man, why don’t you tell her that you have a business trip or something?” Marchy suggested.
“Thanks man that’s a great idea.”

When practice was over I got home and ordered a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to her work later that day. Marshall came over and nudged me, I crouched down and scratched behind his ears and looked at him, “Marshall, am I just making this worse by adding to the lie? Am I just screwing myself over?” I asked him and looked into his eyes. I sighed and got up to get ready for tonight’s game.

We walked into the locker room all buzzed from our 4-0 victory against the Islanders. I was so pumped, I had gotten a hat trick and played the best game of my life tonight.
“Segs, what did you do in prep for the game that gave you such an amazing game today? Whatever it was you better do that again tomorrow in Toronto.” Coach said at the end of his speech.
I looked down and started untying my skates. I was grinning because throughout the entire game, prep, and even right now all I could focus on was Ashley.
Ashley’s POV
I had just gotten through the front door of Maggie’s when Carissa attacked me. “OH. MY. GOD. TELL ME EVERYTHING!!!!!” she squealed as I peeled her off of me.
“Everything about what?” I asked her genuinely confused.
“Oh don’t play stupid with me! That boy that came in here yesterday asking about you, I saw you get in his car last night! How did the date go? Tell me every last detail! PLEASE!!!!!!”
I looked at her standing there looking so desperate and then freaked out. “Oh my god Car he is so perfect! It was the best date ever and all we did was go out to dinner! He is so sweet and I love his personality and ugh he is so hot.” I threw myself into one of the chairs and Carissa pulled a seat up in front of me anxious to hear more. We had about an hour to kill before the store opened so why not obsess over the perfect date I had?
“So tell me where did you go and what happened!?” she said impatiently. I told her all about him waiting for me and the dinner and I was just going over the twenty questions game we had played, “even though it was obviously a lot more than twenty questions.”
“Well give me a summary of his answers!”
“His favorite show is Friends, he watches anything except infomercials, he loves steak, he grew up in Brampton, Ontario, he has two younger sisters, oh and he is an intern at the law firm down the road!”
“Oh he sounds lovely! So what happened after the dinner?”
“Well after we left the restaurant he drove me home and walked me to my apartment door and gave me a kiss on the hand and said we said goodnight. He was such a gentleman.”
“He walked up six flights of stairs just to kiss your hand? Gosh he must really like you.” She said in mock disgust. I rolled my eyes and got up to get set up for opening.

I was pinning Lisa’s dress together so I could tailor it later (Lisa was a regular and knew us all pretty well) when Carissa came in with a massive vase of flowers.
“These just came for you Ash.” Lisa turned and said “Oh Ash you have an admirer!” both women were watching me waiting for me to read the note. I sighed knowing they wouldn’t leave me alone until I opened it and read it aloud to them.
I plucked the little card out of the vase and opened it and read aloud the message:
“Dear Ashley,
I will be leaving for a business trip for work tonight and won’t be back until Thursday.
I wish I could spend more time with you sooner.
I was hoping I could take you on date number two on Friday?
Give me a call when you get a chance and let me know about Friday.
Have a lovely day at work.
Love,
Tyler”
His number was printed under his name.
I looked up and Lisa and Carissa were freaking out.
“Oh My God Ash! That is the sweetest thing ever!” squealed Carissa.
“The fact that he sent you flowers to tell you he has to leave instead of just a simple text! Oh my you are one lucky lady!” Lisa added dreamily.
I reread the letter and couldn’t help but grin to myself. Yeah I was pretty damn lucky.
